How long this vaiki can live is up to you for character development.. perhaps the number of tails they have is connected to their age?

It was merely an accident.

Of course, Catriol was unknowing of this all.
Their finless tail was just the normal.
How were they supposed to know it came with a curse?

Eventually, another tail was grown.
This would bring more trouble than the first.

Catriol was quite confused when their second tail grew.
They began to question themself.
They didn't understand it.
They thought it was nothing.
They weren't any wronger.

And so it continued, the tails multiplied.
Hundreds of years passed.
They could not remember a single one.
It was the curse.
Until they realized.

Catriol spent decades trying to find out why this was happening.
Very little progress was made die to their memory bring wiped constantly.
But then they discovered why they could not remember.
They didn't want to.

Up to 1000 words in extras;; Kitta was hatched on Mt. Fuji, she doesn't know quite how long she's been living there, since the forest on the side where she lives is dense and confusing. The multi-tailed Vaiki often ventures into the forest to watch humans and pick up what they leave behind, though once she sees them, they always seem to vanish. She lives alone, happy in the snow and tranquility near the peak of her home. She's quiet and contemplative, preferring to meditate and walk the trails that it's constructed.

Kitta's history itself is unclear, since there is very little on where the egg came from before apparently being placed in a shrine on Fuji and hatching. The vaiki's age is also quite unknown, but it's estimated that she was hatched during the feudal age and was temporarily seen as a deity. However, as the country developed it forgot about her existence and the Vaiki was left behind. The shrine she lives in is kept in as livable a state as a small, furry being can keep it. Without heating, the small vaiki uses her fluffy tails to keep warm instead of building something like a fire, since the wooden building could easily catch ablaze. When it's so cold that Kitta absolutely has to build a fire, she uses a hole in the ground floor that she managed to fill with stones in a crude effort to lower the possibility of her home burning.

While Kitta does a lot of work to keep her home in the best shape she can, she enjoys this work greatly. From repairing the walls and roof, to tending her small garden through all seasons and foraging to bring back new seeds and foods. She finds the often tiring actions to be extremely fulfilling and enjoys each day through whatever weather. Despite her isolated state, Kitta sees no reason to seek contact with the humans down below, staying with her animal kin. Her shrine provides a place to hibernate or hide from predators, while the garden is a rich source of food. Kitta doesn't quite appreciate others intruding in her garden, but she has yet to drive anyone off.

There's a local legend among the older human residents that live around the mountain's base. They believe that if someone goes to the top of the mountain and spends time with Kitta, they will be blessed with immense luck and the cleverness of a fox. The legend is entirely untrue, as Kitta has no magical powers whatsoever, but it doesn't stop the occasional brave man or woman from making the trek to the top in an effort to get the 'prize'. Kitta can always tell when a human is about to make the trek, she describes it as a ringing in her ears and a twitch in her middle tail. When a human chooses to make the trip, Kitta goes into a frenzy of activity to prepare her shrine for a visitor. She tries to repair windows, walls, the roof, anything to make a good impression. The frenzy she goes into makes it look as if the shrine never changes despite the pounding it takes from the weather each year, causing humans to believe that the area is magical or holy, untouched by time. As with everything else, this is merely a result of her work, and not anything supernatural.

The one unexplainable thing is Kitta's long lifespan. An animal living more than 1000 years is unheard of, and she is an anomaly. Kitta hatched sometime between 1185 and 1603, and there is no documentation of when her egg was laid or exactly when she hatched, but she has been on the mountain longer than anyone can possibly remember. She has watched generations be born and grow up from her vantage point at the shrine, and keeps the changes the landscape makes as images in her mind. She can remember all the way back to the day she popped from her egg at the end of autumn, a kitten sized ball of fluff and tails. She remembers staring into the mirror at herself. Kitta was blandly colored at first, a mere tan with no distinguishing markings or spots. As she grew, Kitta shed her coat many times, and each time she developed a bit more color. Pastel blues and browns and greens were added to her simple coat until one year, when she stopped shedding. She stopped growing the same year she stopped shedding, and has looked the way she currently does ever since.

Kitta often peacefully compares herself to a Koi or a butterfly. Delicate and peaceful. She keeps a pond and a garden filled with local plants to attract insects and hummingbirds not native to the region during spring. The pond is filled with koi that have been living and breeding in the waters since Kitta was hatched. She believes they were a gift for her from the person who left her, and she cries each time one of her beloved fish dies. One koi, however, seems to have lived as long as Kitta has been at the shrine. The koi's age, like Kitta's, is unknown, and it is almost five feet in length. The koi, which is Kitta's favorite among all of her companions, will always swim near the surface when Kitta comes out to feed them bits of vegetables from her garden as treats.

Kitta can be most easily described as a 'mountain spirit' by those who still believe she exists in the ever bustling, changing world at the bottom of Mt. Fuji. Kitta herself doesn't believe these claims, and sees herself as nothing more than a simple villager living her life out in isolation. She is happy with her shrine, garden, and fish. She believes that living a more modern life is less fulfilling and more superficial, despite never having left her mountain to investigate. She watched the villages grow into massive metropolitan areas like Tokyo and been disappointed she watches the time pass.
