1 Extra;; From the moment Socks was born she was an eye catcher, the unique pattern of her coat and her eyes to match. Who could resist those baby blues? People were always asking about a price for the little filly before she was weaned and could even leave her mother's side. The owner and breeder that brought Socks into this world had initially planned to hold onto this stunning filly to bring her up as champion under harness like her mother but the owner had fallen on hard times and was becoming desperate for anything that would keep him from having to give up his prized mare, Socks' mama.
Once Socks was weaned and able to leave her mom's side, she was sold. The owner watched with a heavy heart and a tear in his eye as Socks whinnied in fear as the truck and trailer with her inside drove away. But now the owner could keep his favorite girl.
A few years later and Socks had grown into a gorgeous mare, she was a sassy girl and loved to show it. After being bought she was handled a little bit by her new owners before they put her out to pasture to grow up. They had forgotten their plans for her and left her out there, she had grown up with a couple other yearlings, they were remembered and brought back to the barn to be trained. Socks watched, she was happy to be free but sad as well because her mom wasn't by her side and the owner.. she missed him too. He would stroke her face with his gentle hands until she would fall asleep.
A cold day in fall when winter was close to approaching, Socks was surprised to find a couple people walking towards her. One she couldn't really think of who it was but the other she knew before he had even come close, she paused, unsure whether to run or to stay. "Well look at that girlie, you finally grew into your Socks, eh?" That voice sealed it, she broke into a trot as she approached the man. She missed him because he was a part of her home, she felt less sad as he stroked her face and commented on how big she was now and how pretty. The mare nosed his arm as she took in her mother's scent on him and almost felt her heart burst with longing to see her right now too. "Y'know, Socks. I really didn't want to sell ya but lately I've been working hard so you can finally come home."
Home. Socks's ear perked up as the man grinned at her, if she knew how to smile she would have as they walked together both heading for home.
