Kleeare #45 ✧ Winter Rescue

Postby canis, » Thu Dec 31, 2015 8:08 am

We recently got an urgent call from the local authorities. It seems that they were called in after a recent sighting of a very skinny, odd-looking horse left out in the freezing cold. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a huge Kleeare stable to be abandoned. The Kleeare were simply left, some in the pasture, some trapped in their stalls. And all extremely emaciated. We responded quickly, arriving at the stable and assessing the condition of each Kleeare. The sight shocked us, but we did not fret. We brought each one of the Kleeare back to our place, where they were evaluated by our veterinarian. Some cases were more extreme than others, but all of them had the chance to be saved. That's where you step in...

This Kleeare seems to be a bright one. It tricked our rescuers several times before we finally caught it.

I based this Kleeare off of "Carol of the Bells" by Trans Siberian Orchestra <3

Your Kleeare has just arrived at your stables. How did they react to their new handler?
How did their handler react to them?

2. Welcome Home (completed,below)
You lead the Kleeare to their new stall. How do they react? What does their stall look
like?

3. A Spoonful of Sugar (competed,below)
No one likes to take their medicine, but it must be done. How do you get your Kleeare

Your Kleeare seems to be opening up a bit, especially since they found a friend. Who is
their friend? Another Kleeare, or another animal?

5. Exercise Routine
With its health improving, your Kleeare is getting restless. Time to exercise! Maybe we
should try the saddle? Or maybe just a few games? Some lunging?

6. Final Evaluation
The Kleeare Association is here for the final check-up. How does your Kleeare look now?
Are they in full health, or do they still have a way to go?

1. Today was the day! The new rescue horse would be coming. A new pal for reddington to hang around the pasture with. From what she had heard there were more than 50 horses that were rescued all underweight and issues. After hitching up the trailer to her truck Delilah was on her way. The forty mile drive would take her about and hour and a half. When she arrived at the rescue she saw some of the horses. Each had a special code across where their name plate would be. She had horse number 45. Getting the vet, they arrived at the stall. He was a gold champagne splash stallion with blue eyes standing 15.4 hands high. He was underweight but not as bad as some. Daily rations should fatten him up. "He's a bright one" the vet said. "Took us seven times to catch him." She looked at him. He was about two and a half no more than three. At least 5 years younger then Red. Delilah thought how she got Red. A wild kleeare from a round up,whom she studied for years. He was in rough shape but in other ways. Hes been with her for 3 years now and would rather eat peppermints then roam around in the wild. Entering the stall it was clear he was nervous. She clasped the lead to his halter and clucked to him. He showed some experience with the lead but struggled against it. He was hesitant on entering the trailer but with some convincing and the smell of grain in the bucket he got in. Arriving back home she turned him into the largest stall that was at the barn. A few spaces down from Red where they could hear and smell each other but not interact. The young horse nickered and flashed his lights in distress. Delilah made sure Red was taken care of and that the new horse had what he needed before she left. She would leave him in the stall the first 48 hours so he could get used to it and know it was his safe space. He was itching to get out. He would try to kick the door and lick the latch in an attempt to bust out. When he was let out he broke from the lead and took out to the pasture,he jumped the fence then began pleasantly eating the grass. "Great, well at least he's in the field. she walked into the field talking softly holding a carrot in her hand. Slowly he came close but would spoke at the breeze. After a half hour she was with img arm distants, another 15 she reached out her hand. He spoked. Slowly he came back, she was able to clasp a new lead to him. She kept feeding him and rubbing him, getting him use to the basics. He excelled fast and learned he was in no danger. In time she moved to brushing and picking his feet up,which he was not fond of at all. He would flash when ever someone walked by asking for them to sneak him out. His door above read "do not let out,be sure door is locked". He would flash twice to great someone and swish his tail when food was on its way. He loved pasture time. It would be another week before he would be allowed to interact with another kleeare.

2. Tinsel liked his stall. It was roomy. At one side was a water trough above the ground about 5 feet. At the other end hung a red ball toy and his hay basket. The floor had a rubber mat covered in straw for the time being. The lighting was gentle as not to bother his eyes. There would be soft music playing to get him used to the sounds of the "scary" new world. It was a regular barn with 12 stalls. About 3 stalls down was Red,followed by one other Kleera. Across went one Kleera, empty space directly across, then 4 others. He could hear and smell, soemtimes see and "talk" to the others. At first he really didn't like it, he would kick and lick the latch to get out, any time someone entered he would blow past them. Originally It took him two days to get used to being in a stall, another week before He leant to coroptorate and be led out instead of rushing past the handlers. Given the chance he would still try to slip out. He was caught in a field and you could tell he was itching to go back. He enjoyed his time in the pasture. Walking around and munching. There had to be some adjustments made to it seeing as he jumped well. The smart boy began to show cribbing out of boredom,to fix it he was given stimulating horse puzzles in his stall. It also helped him to relax and not pace. He loved the song "sharp dressed man" by zz top, when it would play he would nod his head. Carol of the bells he would slowly fall into a slumber. He had quite the personality when he relaxed. He learned quickly how to smuggle a cookie off anyone who came near. The youngerster was eager to please. After a while he was lead to his first bath. What an instereting and fun experience. I don't know who was more wet,him or his handler. He took the hose and decided everything needed watering. The youngster was lead to dry out, then back to his stall. He wasn't as sad to be left alone in his stall, slowly improving His stall was cleaned every three days, just as it was done he was honored to me it up right away. He liked to knock his water bucket around when it was less then half full. Eventually the lights got brighter and it was returned to normal barn life. Kleeras went back to their normal stalls, across the way was Red and next to him a quiet old grey named Lillac and then a striking bay named Sam. He was excited and his ears swiveled around while his lights blinked his happy pattern. Irish was content and happy. Over time his escaping ways would stop, that wouldn't happens until he was old and grey though. His stall remained the same the rest of his time, toys would be switched and everyday routines would happen. Time of the abuse was erasing at least for now, wait until he finds out he's gotta meet the vet and farrier.

Today was not gonna be Tinsels day. It was vet and farrier day. He was haltered and tied to the trailer hitch. The vet came around. It was clear Tinsel remembered him. He was not thrilled, pining his ears and flashing fast. "It's okay boy". His handler Delilah spoke softly to him offering a cookie treat. The vet came around slowly to his left side, offering a peppermint treat. With the goodie accepted Tinsel was eased, still not friendly but atleast pleasant. A full work up reviled he needs his shots, and to be wormed. He was 200 lbs underweight and the vet stayed he still had a little growing to do. Holding him and keeping him distracted he was given his shots. He managed to kick out but missed the vet. The friendship was strained. A quick pat and he was alright, although anything shaped like a shot from now on had to be thoroughly examined. Now was time for the wormer. It should be easy right, I mean it's peppermint flavored, atleast that's what it said and Delilah was not trying it. Letting a drop roll, she showed it to him. He sniffed and gave it a lick, not pleasant but he would take it, tilting his head slightly the rest was administered to him. He didn't mind the pink paste as much as the shots. He would also be given a supplement to help him gain weight and recover all the vitamins he needed to insure he was healthy and would reach his full height. They were shows like his peppermints,he was not that easily tricked but mixed in his food he didn't seem to notice. With a good for his condition bill of health the vet left after rubbing behind Tinsels ears. It was the start of a friendship and he would realize the vet was not a mean scary monster who enjoyed pinching him with things. He was put to pasture for an hour before the farrier arrived. This went not as well. He did not like his feet moved unless he moved them. His feet where trimmed and shod. The poor farrier left with a hood shaped bruise, and Tinsel was acting like someone attacked him. No convincing could tell him other wise. He sulked like a puppy. After some pets the relationship was patched for a time,in his records it was noted that farrier visits would heave to be worked slowly and he should be the last done, possibly using the buddy system. After a busy and not so fun day,he did have fun with the reed rubber ball in the field. He was now cleared to interact with other horses. Tinsel was led back in his stall for a night. Greeted by fresh hay, more water, and a cleaned stall, along with a brand new halter put on him. A striking dark blue with a gold plate with his full name upon it and on the other side his pet name. He flickered with content then circles and layed down.

4. It was yet another big day in the life of Tinsle the rescue. After a clean vet bill and 4 weeks of adjustment,he would be interacting with the other Kleera in the barn. With his new halter sparkling he was led out of his stall and into his pasture. Next a Friendly and bomb proof little Kleera gelding named Skipper was lead into the pasture next to his. Both Kleera rushed over to the fences to check each other out. Ears swiveling and noses flaring, tails swished. Tinsel was high strung to the new animal,he was used to herd hierarchy at his old "home". After a while they grew bored with each other. Their lights would flicker every so often just to say they acknowledged each other. These interactions would occur longer and longer for three days . Finally they were turned out into an adjacent pasture which neither had come to claim. There was a little pushing around but then it turned into play. Skipper was older than Tinsel but was still young enough to enjoy the young ones energy. Tinsel saw Skipper as the dominant,in time they would be equals. The next day skipper and tinsel were turned out in the pasture, and a few assorted were turned out next to them, there was a lot of curiosity and light flickering. The next day they were tuned out with the others. The lead herd mare Lillac investigated Tinsel from head to hoof, bunting him back everytime he would move away or move. Once she cleared him free from a threat she let the others know it was okay. Tinsel and Skipper stayed mostly toward the upper left, whilst 3 mares stood in the middle and misccilanous Keera dotted the field. Lillac kept a close eye on the new arrival. If he would act up she would administer a quick series of flahes. He would take note. The next day he was a member of part of the herd . He would munch beside his main buddy Skipper, every so often another Kleera would come by and munch along. Finally he was introduced to some of the more hot headed or more nervousness Kleera. With Lillac, her 2 year old Sanders, and buddy in the field with Tinsel, a horse named copper was let out. He was a nervous fellow but took to Tinsel well. Adding to it came Reddington,a used to be wild Kleera. They didn't get along at first and tried to spur until Lilac intervened. Everything calmed down, the final horse a nasty mare named Ellie came into the field. When any Kleera would get close she wouldn't hesitate to bite of kick, only tolerating few. This is where the story was weird. She took a Liking to the giddy Tinsel. Maybe he reminded her of a previous foal? She would still nip if he got close but for a long time they would stand next to each other, tails flicking and lights communicating. These weeks were going by quickly. At 12 weeks,he was a full fledged member, and had even put on some weight. His coat became that of a glittering gold champagne along with his smart and bubbly personality.

5. Another day begins at the stable. The vet had cleared Tinsel to start an excersie routine. The emaciated horse had now gained enough weight. He had poor muscle quality and mostly gained a fat layer. A simple non strenuous routine was opted for. A new technic of "horse swimming" had been revealed and was used amougst racehorse trainers. One lap in the pool would equal one track length race without the wear and tear as land running caused. Perfect, right? It was all up to tinsel at this point. Loading him on the trailer was easy, the journey was long but well made. Unloading him the Kleera was high strung. A new place was not his thing. Bringing him toward the pool area the Kleera was hesitant. Lights a glow and no stiles flared. It was clear he'd never seen such a large body of water. To ease him a wet towel was rubbed on him, then he was lead to were the water laped just to his hock. He let out a snort with a light pattern never seen before. His head lowerd and his nostrils breathed in a deep breath. He shook his head. Leading him up to his chest,he allowed it. Even steering out his legs. Now he was up toward his lower neck. He kicked with glee moving like a warm knife through butter. Getting out o the pool the handler led him around through the lead rope. Circles and circles for a good 45 minutes. He came out of the water soaked to the bone. The weather was warm so he was dried well and let to bathe in the warmth of the sun. A few hours later the journey to home began. His routine was set. 2x a week was swimming. 4 times lounging activities. 3x saddle work. With a day and a half to rest. Going slowly then adding time to each. The next day tinsel was very tired. Some extra oats were slipped into his feed. He was clearly sore. He tried to fall down and not want to rise. He was put in a sling over night and medication was rubbed over his legs. He was still clearly not as healthy or strong as he lead on. Two days later found him back on his own feet.the first set back, minor yet a sign of his past. More rations were added and his times of work would decrease to 20 minutes a day. After a month the times increase to 35 minutes,he thrived and began to pack on muscle. His weight was just 145 shy of normal. Considering he was 450 away when he first arrived in nine months he was making a wonderful recovery. He was very spirited and bright and worked well under the saddle once he leaned he would be okay. The week of saddle breaking him is a story for anothe day. Let's say a lot of dirt was eaten and a Kleera outsmarted many. The second week went better and the peppermint treat someone entered his belly,to which he was thrilled. Let a person sit on me and "make me" walk was like a game to him as long as he was treated. Halt was not him though. You could stop a train before he oust want to. He had work to be done but he held alo of potential. He was crossing milestones.

6.Happy gotcha day tinsel. A year had passed since a scwayny colt was brought to the stables. A fun day was planned but nothing could take place until the birthday boy had a vet and farrier visit along with a good bath. The vet visit went a lot snoother bow that they had built a a trust bond. A blood draw, a vaccination, and a check up all were conducted. His weight was just 5 lbs short of average. His general health was marked at excellent. He had gained not only fat but a healthy layer of muscle. Gone was the frial and meek colt day where his coat was ragged and skin draped him. Now every inch of his body ripped with muscle, his coat gleemed like light through a champagne bottle. His endurance had grown greatly. He could run and play for longer instead of short bursts. He was well established within the stable herd. He learned under saddle well, even picked up a few tricks. Good and bad. The farrier visit went well, his teeth were good and his new shoes for well. No lameness anywhere. His hooves went from under cared for and a bit over grown to well handled sure footeness. He still wasn't pleased with his hooves being messed with. 2 hours later it was bath time. He loved water especially since all the water exercises. With everything finished it was time for his party. "Surprise" everyone said in unison. He was led around reviving pats from everyone. Next he was put in pasture with his favorite pal and opened his presents. A new green ball,a puzzle, a salt lick, and a brand new halter. Later it was time to cute the cake. He had his very own Kleera cake made from mash oats and carrots. He flickered in delight. After a busy day it was time for bed. He arrived to a freshly cleaned stall, filled food and water trough, and his new puzzle. The new halter was put on. A very special gift was put in front of his stall. It was a scape book of his first year at the stable, like all the Kleera had. His first night, first bath, everyrhing. It showed his growth. A short skinny boy to a tall (he grew 1.3 hands) stallion. You could say he was as healthy as a Kleera. Each page had pictures and a summary of that day. 365 was added with his picture of him wearing a birthday hat. The hat lasted about 3 seconds, just long enough to get the picture. Tinsel fell asleep swing to the music of carol of the bells. A masterpiece in music as he a masterpiece and work of art himself. The summary read. "A year ago I dint know what to expect when I showed up to the vets,my world changed that day for the better. A underweight yellow cream colored colt with manginificent blue eyes and blue luminescent spot peered over that stall. From all the rough firsts and the mischievous games,to the playful field days, the rides and friends both human and Kleera. To the slobbery peppemint treat tainted kisses. A beautiful friendship was forged. With effort, time, patience and love tinsel can hardly be recognized".
