---Callie held the leash firmly in her left hand, glancing down at the black-ticked Kelpie
sitting at her heels.
"Stay," she said, her voice ringing with authority, before clicking her
tongue. She smiled as she saw a brown blur racing toward her from the other end of the
yard. Callie thrust her right hand out in a 'stop' motion and the blur skidded to a halt
immediately. With a another glance at the dog still sitting beside her, Callie turned her
hand so that it was palm up and raised it toward the sky. The other dog say obediently.
Callie spread her fingers a little, loosely curling her ring and pinky fingers, telling the
Kelpie to stay put; the dog gave a snort in reply, her ears perked curiously. By now, the
dog at her heels was shifting and whining excitedly;
"Heel, Cajun." Callie told the dog
sternly as she slowly moved her left foot forward, wanting to make sure the dog would
obey before approaching her other Kelpie, Whisper. The black dog gave an irritated
snort and flicked his ears but stayed at her side, making Callie smile approvingly,
"Good boy."---As the distance between the two dogs grew smaller, Callie could see each dog's
excitement escalating. She kept herself calm, not letting it show that she had
butterflies in her stomach. She stopped a few feet from Whisper, keeping a tight
hold on the black dog's leash, knowing she could trust her girl to behave and obey
no matter the circumstances; Cajun, however was still in training and she
sometimes doubted his resolve(with good reason). The black dog whimpered
impatiently at her side,
"Easy..." She said calmly, slowly stepping forward. She lifted
her right hand, palm up; keeping it even with her hip, she flicked her fingers inward.
Whisper was standing almost instantly, and Callie nodded to her.
"Be. Nice." She said
firmly to the both of them before dropping Cajun's leash and stepping back a few
paces.

The two dogs lifted their tails high, wagging them tentatively as they got to know one another. After about thirty seconds, Cajun lunged forward with a playful bark. Whisper thrust her front paws forward, eye wide, before tearing past him; the black-ticked dog quickly spun and surged after the once-again brown blur. Callie sprung into action, quickly stepping on the leather leash as she clicked her tongue. Whisper stopped short, looking over her shoulder and cocking her head; Cajun froze at the sound he was coming to know as the command 'come' and looked up at her curiously.
"Good boy," she said as she un-clipped the leash; patting his side as a release signal,
"Ok." Cajun bolted toward Whisper and the two took off, running at full-speed across the property. Callie watched them with a broad grin.
