Show Name: Seven Sails
Barn Name: Naranja (Spanish for orange)
Gender: Stallion
Height: 15.3hh
Halter: Orange

Meeting Naranja
I sat up that night, eyes twitching as they scanned over the numbers on the clock. It seemed like it had been days since the last hour had passed. I sat there watching the clock tick for hours. Sleeping the night before Christmas was almost always a hassle for me. This year I knew something extremely special was on its way too, and I couldn't wait to throw my arms around it. For months I had been looking for a paddock mate for my three boys. Finding the ideal Gypsy was quite the task, he or she needed to be docile and submissive as some of my boys were quite difficult around other horses; males especially. Originally I was looking for a gentle old mare but to my surprise, none had been a decent enough fit. It wasn't until a month before Christmas that a Gypsy that seemed to fit my herd and their characteristics rose its head. I would check horse sales websites every few days and luckily I'd been on at the right time to inquire about this boy. He was a small Silver Dappled Chocolate Minimal Tobiano. His owners claimed that he had the kindest nature, he wasn't one to challenge others, he was submissive and gentle. "Perfect". I sat up all night thinking about how introducing him to the herd was going to play out...all sorts of different scenarios. As my eyes darted back up to the clock, the time read "5:17am". "Thank goodness that's over..." I mumbled to my five dogs, leaping out of bed, wide-eyed and ready to spend the next eleven hours convincing my brain that I wasn't tired. As the sun rose over the mountains, gently illuminating the kitchen, the dogs food was poured into each of their bowls. I reached into the freezer hopelessly grabbing at my tub of coffee ice cream and proceeded to spoon it into the bowl in front of me murmuring "how healthy...". After the dogs had guzzled down their Christmas kibble, and I my ice cream, the 6 of us were out of the house. The dogs went crazy outside, adventuring around their new acreage...so many new smells! I proceeded to feed the large feathered beasts in the paddock down from the old barn which is rarely used. The horses galloped towards me, ground thundering with their approach, each pushing in front of the other to be the first to greet the lovely bales of hay I held either side of me. I could no longer contain my excitement as I ran back in to grab my phone to check the time. The new horse was to arrive at 7am..."Great! I've got two minutes!" eagerly anticipating his arrival, I rushed back outside, calling all the dogs over to lock them back in the house to ensure my new Gypsy would have a less stressful arrival. He arrived on time (perhaps a few seconds later). When the doors of the trailer came down, I stood in awe at his beauty. His piercing orange eyes were enough to stop anyone in their tracks. When Naranja's lead was passed to me I stood in silence, only focused on him and his dashing face. I was sold straight away, he was even more gorgeous in person. As planned before purchase, I was to receive a two week trial with him before buying him. So once Naranja had settled, the owners said their goodbyes and left me to gush over his lovely temperament.

The Introduction
As I led the fluffy coated stallion to the old barn he nickered at the other horses who stared at him in an unsettling manner. His head bobbing, ears pricked as he took in his new surroundings. Nara's mane sat messily along his neck as the wind picked up, his young eyes looking in every direction. Whinnying, he calmly settled, his shoulder rubbing against me as we reached the barn. Naranja willingly entered the stall, without hesitation. He stood there watching me with his large orange eyes, blinking away as he gently breathed. As I approached Naranja with the intent to remove his old halter, he ducked his head, sniffing out the sugar cubes I'd been saving in my pocket. He joyfully chewed on the sugar cubes as I removed the leather halter from his head. Nara stood peacefully as I groomed him, not a care in the world. The boys outside grew impatient as the new kid on the block had disappeared from their view. They paced back and forth impatiently, neighing in protest for the introduction to the small Dappled stow away in their barn. Nara grew interested once more by the three giants standing in the paddock outside the barn. The four continued to communicate as I brushed Nara's golden and white mane. After the sun was at its highest and the gifts under the tree had been unwrapped (lets not forget "doggy Christmas"), I was to lead my small feathered friend to greet his new brothers. Naranja's new halter fit him perfectly, and the shade of orange fit his eyes amazingly. I was so relieved. Naranja's newly glossy and tangle free coat shook with every step he took out of the barn. He picked up pace as the others whinnied outside, I struggled to hold on to the small but strong horse beside me. Sawyer was first to interact with Nara once he'd reached the paddocks wooden fence. Sawyer threw his head up as Nara stood with his head held low. After kicking up his legs, Sawyer proceeded to gently nibble on Naranja's shoulder. Stepping back, Sawyer let the others approach Nara. James and Tracer were fairly accepting of the new horses presence, as Sawyer had accepted him. After leaving the four to interact through the fence, I turned Naranja out to the paddock with the others, over joyed that my boys had accepted him into our ever-growing family. Letting the dogs back out of the house, I sat and watched the horses as the sun went down. The dogs once more, running a-muck of the land. Nara stood peacefully, his mane gently blowing in the wind as he lifted his fuzzy head to smell the fresh air. The grass tall juxtaposed from his feathered legs, the trees huge in comparison to the stallion's size. He stood content among his new brothers as they grazed in the lush green grass. Once the sun fell and the moon rose above the mountains, I called it a night and the pack followed me back inside. "What a day..."
