First Touch
Image
"I reached out a tentative hand, fingers trembling at the sight of the fragile foal, and froze as she rocked to her feet, simultaneously pressing her soft muzzle to the center of my palm. Truly we would grow close over the next few years."

First Saddle
"Mandala was a soft soul, and grew more loving with each passing day. I felt she held a certain level of trust with me unlike other neras, and despite her large and overbearing size I felt complete serenity walking alongside her freely. She took to the halter and lead quickly, caring only to please me and be praised. I wasnt quite used to such behaviors, even from foals, but took it to be a sign of honest companionship. As the years dragged on I grew more and more anxious to work with her. I spent many days, hours on end, tailoring her perfect first tack. I had tossed bareback pads and blankets on her no trouble, yet it seemed she was a tad spooked by extra weight and I was eager to fix that. I built her first saddle out of a medium weighted leather, not overly bulky but still weighted enough that it would simulate a rider's weight as well. She refused it at first, shrieking at me pitifully and jerking away every chance she got. However with some soft spoken words and gentle touches she calmed, and I was able to lift the saddle onto her back without issue. She disliked it at first, bucking lightly and bouncing about on her front legs. I assured her it was alright despite her obvious differing opinions, and after a few moments her whole body relaxed. I could feel her breath steady and her heart beat fall back in line with a gentle tune, just the way I liked it. She was truly a wonderful nera, and performed well as I repeated the task each day. I had high hopes for our first ride together, and looked upon her with eagerness and pleasant smiles."
