Pride Member
Personality;;
Rin is usually a pretty quiet lion. He usually tries to do any mission he can away from other lions, which suits his job just fine. Being away from the pride is when he's at his happiest. He doesn't befriend others easily, because of the aforementioned lonely nature, but when he does make friends he pulls them close. This makes him sort of clingy and this turns some of his friends away from him. This perpetuates his loneliness and makes him less likely to befriend anyone else, and therefore clingier to the friends he does have. This keeps going in an ugly cycle, definitely not a good thing for him. Today, he is slowly getting better, gaining a few more friends and getting noticed by other lions more, which slows down the rate at which he goes into mental depressions based off of his lack of social interaction.
Rin is also very distrusting. At a very young age, his father rejected him, and this was the primary reason for his distrust of other lions. A second reason was inadvertently caused by his cub trainer. His cub trainer encouraged him to be independent, because of his father’s rejection, and Rin went a little overboard, completely ostracizing himself from the other cubs, in favor of improving his skills and becoming independent. He blames himself for this, even though it wasn’t all his fault. He is still very distrustful of other lions today, which doesn’t help his bad social skills at all.
On the positive side, Rin is very hard-working. He will stay up for days on end on a job, and he will often refuse to return home until he's completed each mission. This makes him one of the most useful pride members and so he gets sent out often. This serves as sort of a foil to his cynical, kind of lonely side of his personality, and helps to give him time away from other lions to relax and recharge. This "reverses" the damage done to his self-esteem by the lonely, clingy side of his personality. He improves more on his job every day, which also offsets his lonely nature more.
Rin is generally becoming an easier lion to be around, since his skill at his rank and his social skills are improving in tandem. He doesn’t have a huge circle of friends, because if anything that would make him unhappy, but he has several good acquaintances, which is enough for him. It definitely makes him happier than he was as a lonely young lion, without anyone. He isn’t as lonely anymore, and he isn’t as dependent on his skills in areas other than social to make all of his friends anymore. He still isn’t super friendly, but he’s getting better at it, he’s still new to having friends, and lions that care about him, since he went for so many years with almost nobody that cared about him or his happiness. Someday, if he keeps improving his social skills, he may get a mate, but that day is pretty far in the future. What he knows is that he won’t be like his father was, because that set him up for failure for the rest of his life.

History;;
Rin was rejected by his father as soon as he was born. "Too weak," his father had said. "He won’t survive long.” This helped contribute to his untrusting, clingy nature and his preference to be alone.
The good thing was, he didn’t have to live with a lack of a father figure for that long though, because his cub trainer was one of the most important figures in his life, due to aforementioned lack of a good father like most cubs.
His cub trainer was an upbeat male lion who somehow knew about Rin’s situation, so he pushed him harder to continue to succeed, and not need anyone else to achieve his own goals. This could have made him more antisocial, but it also made him independent and realize that his father was wrong, he would go on to succeed in his assigned “job”.
After he was parted from his cub trainer, he went through a brief period of depression. The kindly tom that gave him special attention where he had lacked it most was now gone, replaced only by his own lonely self. The cub trainer’s special training for him had worked him harder than most of the other cubs, so he didn’t have a lot of time or desire to get any friends, as anything he did before now, he could do alone. His skill and independence worked against him in the fact that he was now more alone than ever. Now thrust into a role in the pride, he didn’t even know how to go about making friends, especially with his job. Over time, Rin developed more proficient social skills, but it was a little too late. By then, most of the lions had separated into their little groups, and it was getting harder and harder to work his way into those. He made a few isolated friends, sure, but nothing to write home about. He was becoming more and more secluded by the day as he realized his cub trainer had inadvertently set him up for failure.
On the other hand, once he began his job as a pride member, he achieved moderate acclaim within the pride for how well he accomplished his job. He was one of the youngest pride members to achieve even moderately this much “fame” for his work, so things were looking up for him in that sense. It seemed that the more he was ostrisized socially, the harder he buckled down into his work, therefore, the more he achieved. It was a tradeoff he didn’t really want to accept, but with his failing social skills, it became more and more apparent that he would just have to and get better and better at his job.
The modest praise he had received from the pride helped him in more ways than one, however. It made more lions notice him, as he had just been floating on the edge for the vast majority of his life, so this was some lion’s first realization that he had promise. It also made him more motivated to succeed, and not just to make up for his lack of social skills now. Now it was to keep up with the praise he was getting, and not to disappoint the people who were now beginning to believe in him. This is where he is today, trying to balance a slowly growing social life and keep up with his work as a tracker as well, getting better at both of those by the day.
