It had taken around three weeks for me to come to the conclusion that I definitely needed to find a buddy for Bramble. I'd known he was lonely, but when his screeches to let other Nera know he was there got louder and louder and more constant each night, I decided it was official.
And today was the day! I glance at my watch, and then frown. The guy should've been here ten minutes ago. Had something gone wrong? Was something amiss? Did I have the wrong date? I'm pretty worried now.
That's when I spot the truck. I'm pretty relieved, because I'd begun to think up all sorts of horrid things that could've happened on the way. And there was the trailer! My new girl was okay.
The man brings the car to a halt, hops out, and goes around to the trailer. He quickly opens it and steps inside, and then leads her out. She's quite a beauty, and I love her already. The pictures did her no justice, compared to seeing her in all her glory.
"Alright, miss! Where would you like her?" The man asks.
I point out a corral, the same one Bramble had started in when I was training him. "There, please."
"Of course." He nods, and I follow him over as he lets her in. After giving me a nod goodbye, he goes back to his truck and drives off.
"Hey there, Native." I smile as I get up and sit on the fence.
I pull a peppermint from my bag, and drop it to the ground for now while I watch her. As I pop the peppermint I got from it into my mouth, she sticks her face into the bag.
"Hey!" I squeak, and she pulls her head out. Peppermints are scattered when she does. Is that what she wanted? My candy? The little rascal.
She lets out a screech, and I can hear a slight difference between her's and Bramble's. And then, I hear Bramble return it. Once I get Native settled a little, I'll be sure to have them meet. I grab my bag so that the candy thief won't steal anymore, and set it on the other side of the fence. She tilts her head at me, and I give her a smile.
I was told she's very friendly, so I hold up my hand to test the waters. She presses her face into it, and I grin even wider.
"I think we'll be great friends, Native."
