Welcome to Direwood Racers Association

The Fanclub | The Main Thread | Breeding Center | Custom Raffles

Welcome to Direwood Racers. We are an organization that specializes in racing of the Short manned Echobis. These animals are as larger than horses and are used in our races. They rank in many different colors and we train them to race from the age of one. Echobis are highly aggressive creatures if not trained properly and can be very dangerous towards people if they are wild and have grown without human contact. It was required that all Echobis be registered to keep track of records and aggression. The Echobis are not to be left untrained if owned. This dog like creature is not to be treated like a dog but rather that of a horse, they have a diet of raw meat and are recommended to be fed by hand to strengthen bonds. Echobi pups are the size of regular dogs at birth. They develop their horns if they are males. Direwood’s mission is to improve and spread the excitement of Echobi racing to the community. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Training Level 5

Postby Simonpet » Fri Jul 03, 2015 7:00 am

It was the beginning of summer, and I went outside in the sweltering heat with some good news for my Echobi. I had entered Target into her first race. We had been training hard in preperation for the race, and I was excited for all of our time and effort to be payed off. I looked around for Target. She wasn't in her stables, which was typical. She often hid from me, and only came out once I gave up. Or if she wanted to pounce.
    "ROOF!"
I turned around, getting out of Target's way just in time. She had swung at me with her paw, and since she was bigger than a horse--and with muscles, I was never eager to be knocked around. "Hey girl," I said. "Ready for your first race?" The Echobi barked in agreement. I tossed Target her favorite treat--rack of lamb--and did a running jump onto her. She was so big that it was the only way to get up onto her.
"You know the race is tommorow. You'll win, won't you?" I murmered in her ear as she chewed her breakfast. Despite my elation, I was nervous. What if she lost? But I had to put aside those thoughts, and focus on her final training session before her first race. Target had been entered into a "newbie" race, where Echobis that had never raced would get to do so. I had kept Target fairly isolated, only meeting other Echobis when we absolutely had to. Hopefully, Target's belief at being invincible would hold up under the stress of the race.

"Come on Target," I muttered. It was noon, and I swore that it was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Target was a bit sluggish today, not a good sign. It was only our third time running through the course that I had set up. The course included a running track, plenty of twists and turns, small hurdles at evenly spaced intervals, a start, and a finish. We were only halfway through the course a third time, and though I felt Target straining, she wasn't going anywhere quickly.
"Time for a break, girl," I said. I slid off her back, landing with a thump. I inspected my sweet Echobi, whose tongue was lolling out, and whose head was down in an exhausted state. I took her halter and led her back to the stables. If she was in such a state today, then what would she look like tomorrow? I gave Target some water and boiled chicken, and gave her the rest of the day to simply lie around being lazy.

    ***

The day of the race was cloudy, with the sun straining to peek through. I was dressed in a black-orange-and-white outfit to match Target's colors. Except she wasn't Target today. Today, she was Bullseye at the Stadium. I had decided on her show name only about two months ago, and the Echobi had taken to it right away. I had named her in hopes that like a bullseye, she would be the best shot, the most perfect one. In the race, she would be the best Echobi, and win 'em all. I took my running jump onto Target, and some of the other jockeyes stared. Well, I couldn't really help being short, could I? I turned Target towards the gates, and she immediatly stiffened, getting ready to bolt. I had trained her reaction times to the point where unless she was distracted, she could "Go!" within a few seconds of the word being said. I noticed that some of the riders didn't seem to have great control of their Echobis. They would move around, some of them barking while their owners struggled to regain control. Other riders were like me, their Echobi trained to the best of their ability. A low growl from Target made me turn my attention back to the race. Thank goodness she had saved me from becoming too distracted!
"Go!" I heard the announced shout. The gates opened, and Target rushed forward, just as we had trained. I held onto the reins, careful not to strangle Target, or Bullseye at the Stadium. Her great paws were stirring up dust from the track, and as we rounded the first bend, I could see some of the riders we had left behind. The ones whose Echobis hadn't been fully in control were doing no better, wanting to play instead of run. Others, with better control, were right behind me and gaining. I urged Target to go faster. She complied, and we sped up, leaving the others behind. At least, we left most of them behind. Next to us were three others. Though fast, I could see that one of the Echobis didn't have much stamina left. He and his rider fell behind. Three of us left. As we rounded another corner, I saw a hurdle that had been placed to slow down or eliminate the unworthy. Target jumped over it with ease. So did another of our opponents. But the third pair hadn't been prepared, and stumbled. Two left. "Target, go!" I screamed. Again she complied, and though we had trained for this, I could see she was tiring. If we didn't finish soon, we would lose. Thankfully, we only had to go around once, and we were done. The other pair was drawing closer to us now, and I could see more details. The Echobi was a male, with wicked-looking spikes. The rider was also a male, and held a whip to spur his Echobi. The threat of the whip seemed to spur on the opponent's Echobi, and I could see we would lose...if we didn't go faster. Leaning forward, I whispered a plan into Target's ear. I never understood how, but we shared a connection to the point of us understanding each other despite being totally different species. My girl understood immediatly, and swerved to the right, trying to go in front of our opponents. They swerved to the left, and we followed, my ability to turn around helping Target understand where to go. After what felt like hours but was probably only a few minutes, the other pair appeared to give up. Target put on some speed, and I could hear the other Echobi's paws pounding the earth faster, in an attempt to catch up. But it was too late, for we had turned another corner, jumped another hurdle, and were sprinting towards the end. Finally, Target turned the final corner, and saw our opponents far behind us. Instead of slowing down though, we sped up, to deter other pairs from beating us.
Clarity returned to in a rush, as Target slowed down and I heard people cheering, chanting: "Bullseye at the Stadium!" We had won.
Target has won her first race

Here is her official page, with everything you need to know about her. XD Caramel's page will be coming along soon. All of my Echobis will have storage there from now on. Also, she is now four, and is available for breeding. C:
