Story: (from his point of view). I had always thought that without my mother, I would be no one. I thought I would never be able to survive without her. I had needed her too much, or so I had thought. We were horses in the great plain, who loved to frolick, buck, and run through the tall grass with the other horses. We had the times of our lives. Then, one day, people came. They had these machines that spun up the dust and made my young colt eyes water. They circled around us like
vicious sharks, and the last I saw of my mother was her nuzzling me behind a large rock. I often wonder, now and then, what happened to her, and the rest of my herd. I knew she would want me to survive, stay strong, but I was so scared. What could I do? I could run. I ran away as fast as I could. I sped away from my homeland, my mother's last mark, and all of my fears. As I began to tire, I lay to ground when I heard a powerful whinny. I rose from the dirt, and sped off towards the sound. I galloped up a hill, and to my amazement, I saw a large herd far below me. I scanned the horses for my mother, but I could barely make out figures through the dust being kicked up by thundering hooves. I ran down the hill, trying to keep up. I jumped the last part down, and fell in line with the other horses. Something told me my mother would not be there, but I stayed in the herd untill I decided to move on. My young experience made me not like staying in one place for too long, so that was how it went. I moved from herd to herd untill I decided to move on. IN my trVels I saw so many different, amazing, and terrifying things that some horses would never see. But, nothing would be as surprising as the next place I wound up. The sun had just risen, and over the horizon, I saw A weird set of silhouettes just a few yards away. I galloped to it, and heard the familiar whinnies of horses. I patrolled around the perimeter for a while, when a couple of human stumbled through one of their homes. I watched suspiciously, and when one pointed at me, I tensed. To my surprise, they dispersed behind the shack, and I thought I was safe, untill they returned. On horses. I froze in surprise. This had to be a mistake. Why would horses allow people on their backs? They rushed toward me, swinging ropes and hollering loudly. Each time, I would shimmey out of reach. They eventually gave up, and I bucked happily. I thought of leaving, but these weird horses left me entriqued. So, I stayed. This happened for a while. At first, I thought of this as a survival feat, but I soon came to thinking of this as a game. No matter how many people tried, I always remained free. This is how I acquired my name, The Free Spirit. One day, I felt more tired than usual. I was old, and quite tired too. One day, the stable door spun open. I raised my head expecting the burly men to rush out. Instead, I was greeted by a young girl aboard a pretty Appaloosa horse. She smiled at me then, rushed me. I sprinted off a few yards, and then turned around, just out of reach. She pretended to rush me, and I leaped backwards. We continued for a few minutes. Then, she actually rushed. She twisted and turned all aroundme, somehow cornering me. Then, I felt the rough rope loop around my neck, and tighten. This was how she managed to trap me. As it happened, the appaloosa began to warm my heart with her fun loving personality. I found it interesting. In all of my travels, I never found a mare that suited me. And now, in this strange place I found a mare perfect for me.
Fears: Sand Buggies, cramped spaces, loved ones disappearing, even if they are just in the other room.
Likes: Tanto, one of my horses, his girl, fresh breezes from the plain, playing "pranks" on people he doesn't like.
Personality: Spirit is a fun loving, michevious, stubborn, sweetheart. He is one of the smartest horses I the stable, and is known by everyone as one of the most special horses. He knows almost every trick a horse can learn. But, he will only do them, if he wants to, there's a good treat, and he's not too tired. He can make anyone laugh with his pranks. He has been known to open the other horse's latches when he is being led to his stall. He loves frolicking with the other horses, such as Tanto, in the meadow. He spends the most time out there, and loves playing withanyone who comes out to check on him.
