First Touch wrote:I was out riding Ghost on a nice chill day. We had decided to ride in a lovely field with flowers and the most lively grass around town. After we had run around the fields for half an hour I noticed a Neravontii in the distance. We moved close to see if it was an owned or unknown one. We got closer, to notice she was shorter than the average Neravontii. She was also very unusual. She had a shorter and thinner tail with longer fingers on the tail. She also seemed to have small spikes on her neck and very small ears and smaller eye sockets. For sure I had never seen her around, and seemed to be a bit shy as we moved closer.
I felt this was going to be a very hard one to tame, as for over time hanging out I noticed her Sassy attitude and a bit stubborn. I decided to open my bag and pull out some snacks. I had an extra chicken legs wrapped up and tossed one out for Ghost and the Stray. I then noticed she was sniffing the air and snorted and just moved away from it. I shrugged my shoulders and just sat there digging through my bag. I found my bucket of cotton candy. The second I had pealed the seal, she darted over and nudged me trying to get a good sniff of it. "Well then you silly thing." I pulled a chunk and offered it to her. She knelt down to snack on it. I reached for her slowly holding out another chunk in the other hand. She was fairly soft, and silky skinned.
After about half an hour of sharing some sweets with her, I took a look at her markings and noticed her spikes were covered in skin and light fur. It was not what I expected, It was mostly tissue and seemed fairly small amount of bone just enough for it to stand straight up. They were also very well lined up with her stripes. It made me gasp.
I reached into my bag to grab a halter and walked up to slip it onto her. She wasn't quite trusting to me just yet and she knocked me to the ground and snorted. I stepped away and faced away from her. After a few minutes I pulled out some cotton candy for myself. Next thing I know is that she was standing right behind me practically begging for some. I didn't offer her any so she tried to steal it from me. I held out the halted and grinned. I slowly offered the cotton candy and slipped on the halter. This bribe was almost easier than I thought. But she then suddenly tried to slip out but I hurried to buckle the halter. I pulled out more cotton candy for her and patted her on the neck.
I leaped onto Ghost's back and we took out long hour ride home that usually takes no more than 10 minutes just to drag this new mare home. She is rather Stubborn, and I hope it changes sooner or later.
First Saddle wrote:It had been a few days me working on Sassy. Oh yeah, So you know she had already gotten her name on the way home when I captured her. She is named after her attitude she has. I've been working on her in the round pen every day. I had decided this time while in the round pen to introduce her to the saddle and bridle and possibly ride her this time around.
I made the mare gallop around the pen about 20 times and had demand she turn and run the other way around up to 4 times, making each round about 5 before turning. I then turned around and walked towards the saddle. Yeah that's right, She's following me. I have broken my mare and she has become very loyal to me, but we'll see about that once I tack her up for the first time.
I picked up the saddle holding the saddle pad under. I then tossed it onto her back and wiggled it into place. As I was downing so though expected she knocked me to the ground. For that I offered her no cotton candy. She snorted and looked the other way as I got up and moved the saddle into place and fastened the saddle.
I then reached for the bridle and I think she took the hint that she gets nothing for being pushy. I offered a tiny bit of cotton candy as I slipped the bit into her mouth and the bridle over her ears and offered her more as I fastened it.
First Ride wrote:I made Sassy run around the pen a few times before tempting to mount her just so she could get used to the feel of a saddle and bridle. I put weight into the stirrup and I set a sack of potatoes onto her back. I hurried to tie it down and made her run with the weight on her back. I made her obey to signals she would have to take if I were to ride her.
After about half an hour of this I removed the sack and decided to get her used to the feel of being mounted on both sides, and just weight in the saddle. I lifted myself into the saddle and sat down. She started to buck a bit but I tugged on a rein and made her move in a few circles then made her run around the pen a few times instantly making her change direction each time she had tried to buck or rear. There were plenty of times I had to make her turn around a few before continuing to walk.
We repeated this for about 10 minutes and till she finally gotten used to the weight and was a little comfortable. So I just practiced signals with her and getting her to speed up and slow down every minute. We did this for about half an hour then I dismounted and untacked her to release her for the day.
She sure is stubborn for the start but has slowly warmed up to me and it looks I'll have to repeat this a couple more days before she completely trusts me and will allow me to mount with no issues. She'll take more time but deep down inside she seems like not the sweetest but she has a heart. I just have to teach her that she could trust me.
