Teke #331 - Happy Birthday!

Postby Dia. » Mon May 11, 2015 5:04 pm

Phaethon's Tekes will be celebrating one year on Chicken Smoothie on May 17th! Time flies when you're having fun!
I'm posting a handful of Happy Birthday tekes for the celebrations and as a thanks to all of you lovely people. <3

This is a free full custom!
Something's wrong with this guy... I'm not sure he can see very well.. (edit: because of that SUPER FORELOCK)
Please write an amazing story about the origin of tekes. Was Dia working long hours in a murky factory? Were their rainbows and cotton candies? Be creative and have fun! I want to see what people think the inside of my brain must be like. xD
You may add art if it adds to your story.

This will end on June 1st!

Story: One morning, Dia found herself bored and drawing. Taking a break from her busy life of being a high schooler and what not, she decided to just draw something. But what? She had no idea; she found herself drawing a bunch of creatures. She found herself drawing a teddy bear, it was cute and interesting. She wanted to make it come to life, like a build-a-bear. But instead of being lame and going to the store, she decided to make it herself. She gathered all the material’s she’d need, needle, thread, different types of fabric, a toy heart and then some other things.

She had a plan to get it all going, slowly cutting out the basic shape of her teddy bear. However, after she had gotten it all cut out and ready she was slowly starting to sew it together. It was going good so far, but she kept running into some problems. It took her awhile, she got the body all sewed up and started to stuff it with cotton. Of course she couldn’t forget the heart, so she tucked that away in the teddies chest then continued to sew it up. She gave it a string with some beads on it to decorate it; just to give her teddy something unique. After it was all sewed together, it seemed like the sewing was just not holding. It kept popping out of place and exploding little chunks of cotton, Dia was just completely frustrated. She gave up and threw the teddy behind her, then stormed out of the shop she was working in. She decided to go tend to the Teke’s; who were growing up in her pasture, giving them some attention and love.

A few hours later, she returned to her workshop to continue working on her creation; however she found it laying on the ground with paint covering the head of it. Darn, she hadn’t even heard the crash of it through her frustration. She picked it up and sat down at her table; staring at the teddy to try and figure out what she was doing wrong. She noticed in the background that she could see a few Teke’s of her own through the window, and a light bulb went off. She grabbed some paint and paint brushes, beads and string then ran out to her little buddies. She ended up painting a unique style on them, although it was odd because the paint seemed to stick and not come off or smudge. Once she was done with the paint, she tied a string around the neck and added some bead to it; giving it a special touch. If she couldn’t create her teddy bear, she could give the Teke’s a unique characteristic. Now on her free time, she’d painting the Teke’s dip colours and making sure the string is attached with beads.

Story: Now the story of how Tekes came to be is an odd one at that. I'm surprised you want to hear it. Are you sure? Yes? Well alright then. Gather anything you think you may need and I'll tell you the whole thing.

It started on just an average day. Nothing wonderful or exciting was going on at least not in the way those things usually do. The weather? Pouring rain of course! Far too many stories start on a gloriously sunny day and that's done to death for happy stories. Rain is used for sad or horror. LET'S SWITCH IT UP MK?

A piece of paper of lay on a table. A half finished sketch occupying the majority of the plain white A4 sheet.

Dia groaned, head falling forward to thunk onto the desk. The magic of inspiration was avoiding her something hardcore and she was about ready to throw a brick at it. She lifted her head and turned her expression of despair on the window, she almost looked past the small model horse that sat on the sill.

For a long moment. Dia merely stared at the small model, it was one that she had found at a thrift shop and just couldn't not take home. The little horse had seen better days, it was missing it's mane and the paint was chipped in places. It was upon studying it a little more closely that an idea began to form in Dia's head.

She swiveled around and began to furiously finish her drawing. After what felt like hours, Dia leaned back in her chair and sighed. The drawing was done and she was quite pleased with herself for thinking of such a clever idea.

But she felt like there was something yet missing from the drawing.

"Sparkles? No no. Glitter? Nah. Sequins? That's not it. Color maybe? I suppose that could be it" she chattered rapidly to herself and pulled the box of colored pencils over to begin more work. She picked the color's carefully. One by one. Making sure that she stuck to natural equine color's or at least the best she could achieve with the colors she had on hand.

She covered her mouth with one hand as her eyes swept over the newly colored drawing and a soft yawn escaped her. There was still something about it that was giving the feeling that it still wasn't done. She rocked her chair back onto 2 legs and thought hard, it was already fully drawn and colored. What else could she add?

Almost absently she took a purple pencil and drew a loop, adding a bow and then took another color, adding little circles to the new line. Taking a new color she doodled on the sketches head making a small pattern around the ears that branched a little way out onto the neck. She examined the drawing carefully, the nagging missing feeling finally satisfied. Her chair rocked forward back onto all four legs enabling Dia to push away from the desk and retreat from the room in search of something to eat.

After a moment the air by the desk began to shimmer. When it stopped, the woman who now stood there, opened her eyes revealing them to be a vivid golden color. She looked down at the drawing, lips curving up into a small half smile as she examined it. She lifted a slender hand and traced something in the air above the drawing.

"I'm going to give your creator something special, little drawn horse" the woman said, her half smile widening ever so slightly in amusement as she spoke.

The drawing shone brightly for a moment before fading back to what it had been before the glow. It sat on the desk and waited for Dia to return. Now you see the drawing was still just that. A drawing. But the strange woman had imbued it with magic, that would only activate upon Dia's touch.

And so the drawing waited. It didn't have to wait for too long as within a few minutes, Dia returned. The moment her hand made contact with the paper, Dia's world exploded into a myriad of glittering colors. Upon her vision clearing the poor artist wobbled violently, one hand coming up to clutch her head as she tried to steady herself. It was that moment that realized she was no longer alone in the room. Standing in the doorway was a sooty bay horse that sported a longer version of the marking she had added to her drawing.

Her eyes went wide and she merely stood staring straight at the equine.

And that dear listener is how Tekes came to be. With a lot of imagination and a little bit of magic. These wonderful creatures came into being.
