CWHR: Red Dun (Frame) Overo

Postby ImmyWimmy1 » Thu Apr 09, 2015 12:18 am

Hello everybody!

So it occurred to me recently that I've not posted any horses for the new Cottonwood thread yet, so I took some time out from writing up my field notebook for one of my degree modules to make a little something for the community. Besides, I have so many Latin names for species in my head right now this little boy made for the perfect break! XD

Anyway, for this painted fellow I'm going to be paying attention to your written personalities and histories. Like with artwork I know some people find writing difficult, so what I'm going to really be looking for is the content (it's up to you what you want to put in). Extras (for bonus points) are also allowed if you want to put any in, but I will be focusing on writing.

~

Quick sidenote: For my field trip I went to Andalusia, Spain and I was lucky enough to see a couple of Andalusian horses (complete with traditional rural Spanish tack and riders in traditional riding gear) being ridden around in a small town called El Rocio- be on the lookout for Andalusian adopts from me this summer!!!

Personality:
Before the accident, Compass was silent, strong, brave, and passionate. He never put up a fuss, and always carried out his duties with a strength and a passion that all could see. He was goal driven, brave enough to dive headstrong into nearly anything. His job was his life, and his family and friends respected that. After the accident, Compass just wasn't the same. People still believe he can become who he was before, but he needs so much work. he doesn't trust, he's needy, and he's extremely skittish. Underneath, he still wishes that he could go on one last adventure. But he's so scared and lonely, and he needs a friend who can help him become who he was before.
History:
Compass was bred in the mountains. He was bred to be a pack horse, with the hardiness of his Welsh Cob mother and stamina of his American Paint Horse father. He was a natural, brave enough to take on challenges but not so clouded by bravery to know what his limits were. He could plow through wind, rain, snow, anything if it meant reaching his goal. But one year the weather was bad, Compass and his owner knew they shouldn't have gone out. But they did, and consequences were irreversible. They were hunting, and the rain made the rocky slopes slippery. While they were climbing up a steep cliff, Compass's back hoof slipped. This caused his panniers to move and throw him off balance. He fell on his side, and couldn't get back up. He had many deep scratches on his legs and lower body. His owner managed to get him to safety, and the vet healed him as well as he could. The scars can not visually be seen, but he can never be used as a pack horse ever again due to the change in personality. After his owner heard this, he decided the best thing to do would be to send him to Cottonwood Horse Ranch, where he could start over. Now, he needs a home who can accept his needs and take care of him despite his quirks.

Breed: Welsh Pony Section D x American Paint Horse
Height: 14.1hh
Colour: Red dun
Markings: Overo markings
Genetics: A/a, D/D and O/o.
Personality: Records is a brave but loyal horse, although some may consider him stubborn, he doesn't care what other horses think. He's not always getting himself in trouble, as he hates to be scolded. Sometimes, however, he will get himself into accidental trouble. Whether it's dressage or western pleasure, he loves calming activities like trail riding, especially in groups. He's fairly nice (most of the time) and loves to be in trail riding groups.
History: Records was born in a quiet state on the farm. However, every rider stated about how amazing he looked and well, all attention went to him. This made some horses try their hardest to get their owner's attention. But even so, Records was a calm and collected foal, usually trotting around with other foals and poking at them. Records would often hang around with the foals so he wouldn't be scolded by the older mares if he jumped around them. As he grew older, he began to be more daring and would start to bother the mares he was scared of as a foal. He wouldn't dare nudge the stallions, as he thought they were too 'boring' and just stayed in their spots all the day, lazing around the pasture. Little did he know he would one day grow up and move into the pasture with the boring and lazy stallions! Records was eventually broken in and he was always trotting away from any rider since breaking him in was, well, a slightly hard job. Eventually he learned how to be ridden and to respect the laws of being ridden. Then he moved into the stallion pasture for a while, then the geldings. He was quite picky with the stallions, so some rider thought he had to be gelded and moved to where the geldings were. So he was moved and eventually trained in conformation and often went out on trail rides with his rider. He'd often try to graze while he was tacked up outside, but his owner told him not to do that. Ever since then he's been trained and has done pretty well in conformation.

(probably a wip while I go grab some art)

Dream Horse
Username: UnicornTamer
Name: Carlisle Seven Clouds

Gender: Gelding (2 breedings max.)
Breed: Welsh Pony Section D x American Paint Horse
Height: 14.1hh
Colour: Red dun
Markings: Overo markings
Genetics: A/a, D/D and O/o.

Carlisle was a dream horse,
Roving where he would,
Trotting clouds and leaping winds,
Loving where he could.

I don't know where he came from,
Or how he stole my heart.
All I know is he is wild
And love and rain and spark.

Over roads and through the glens
He wanders day and night.
A light of fire in the dark
Of beauty, pride and might.

So if you chance to meet him
Some moon-lit night someday,
Do not be afraid to follow
Carlisle Seven Clouds' way.

Personality: Carlisle Seven Clouds was different from any other horse I ever knew. He loved people - to a fault. The poor beautiful boy hated being alone, but he also hated confinement and cruelty. These two things often worked against him. Running was his passion. Running and tossing his head and neighing to the seven winds and seven seas and seven stars that loved him. Yet Carlisle was always gentle around me, and around any other human being, even the evil ones, though he had less patience for them. But he never held grudges. The tame wild horse, I sometimes called him. No, never have I known a horse like Carlisle Seven Clouds, the dream horse.

Image

History: There once was a horse called Carlisle. I met him a long time ago. I can still see the wind-blown whoosh of his mane, the high arch of his cloud-spotted neck . . . and those eyes. I'll never forget those huge, sad eyes. I could almost see his thoughts flash through them. I don't know if I'll ever see him again, but his tale rests in my heart and my eyes. So, here is his story.

The girl named him. The girl with golden hair. Carlisle was born in the barn of the girl's father, but he was an "accident". An American Paint belonging to a neighbor found his way into the paddock where the girl's father's prized Welsh Pony grazed. The girl's father was a mean man; horses were simply his living, and Carlisle never should have been born, so he held a grudge against the horse. Even more so because of his haunting beauty.

The girl's father had Carlisle gelded at a young age. He worked him in the fields and whipped him, though he was no work horse. Carlisle's bones and body were changed forever. The man never gave him enough to eat and shut him up in his stable all the time when he wasn't working him to death.

Carlisle was never a barn horse, even if he had been exercised and had sufficient food. He was as wild and free as the wind. He hated every minute of it. So he ran away. The family of robins who lived in the roof of the barn told the girl before anyone else aware of his absence. The girl's father flew into a rage and made searches all over the country, as he if searched for a man who had done him wrong and intended to wreak vengeance upon him.

But Carlisle got away.

I always thought he was more mist and dream than horse. A dream with flying hooves and winged mane and the most beautiful eyes in the world. Of course they never caught him.

On their own.

No, Carlisle was unlike any other horse I have ever known. Even though the girl's father mistreated him all throughout his short three years of life, Carlisle had a love and ache for humans. He remembered the girl with golden hair, the girl who would ride him over the hills, the girl who tied a silken ribbon to his mane, the girl who called him Carlisle Seven Clouds.

The girl lying her bed one night felt a change in the wind and knew he had come. She left the ranch house and went out into the chill air barefoot. There he was, moon-dappled and looking all like a horse from a vision, his large, dark eyes beckoning her, "Come away with me." The girl reached out a hand to him with closed eyes, imagining his warm coat in her fingers, his muscles rippling beneath her as he tore up the ground and waves and clouds, away from everything . . .

But just as she was about to mount Carlisle, the silhouette of her father shone in the doorway to the house, and he had a gun in his hand. "Get away!" he yelled at her. "I'm going to kill that wretched beast!"

"No!" cried the girl, and she leaped in front of Carlisle as her father pulled the trigger. The bullet grazed her forehead and landed harmlessly on the ground, but the girl collapsed into the grass in a heap.

When the girl awoke a week later, many things had changed. Her father's men had captured Carlisle because he would not leave the girl even when she had been hurt. He remained at the ranch for three days, and then he ran away, never to be seen again. But when the girl went to look at his small, empty stable, hanging on the door was a silken ribbon . . . and knotted into it was a bit of misty-golden hair that might once have belonged to a dream horse, so others said. But I know it was, because I have seen him and known him and ridden him over hills. For I was the golden-haired girl who loved the horse named Carlisle Seven Clouds.

And I shall never forget him.

None of the photographs are mine.
