~ FIRST TOUCH ~

The young rider was excited to come to the stables...her beautiful mare Starlight was due to have her baby today, and she couldn't wait to see what the little Neravontii looked like! If she looked like either of her parents (Starlight or Kaiju) then she would be stunning!

She was just making her way up the path when she saw Starlight standing in the paddock? Her belly was thin again, which meant she had had her baby...in the paddock?! That wasn't right at all, babies were supposed to be born in the stables, where they could be looked after and protected.

The young rider hurried over to the fence to see where the baby was and saw something lying down in the grass...but there was so much red, the poor thing must have hurt itself. She hurried through the gate thinking she would find something terrible had happened.

Lying in the grass was the prettiest, most delicate looking baby Nera, but so much red...she gently reached out and touched the soft downy skin on the little girls face, she had the most incredible turquoise blue "eyes", and when the rider ran her hand carefully along the delicate fins on the babies face, they came away clean?

Not blood at all!

Her owner was so relieved she fell into the grass next to the baby and gently stroked it. She checked each red area just in case, but each one turned out to just be a normal patch of red colour, nothing to worry about at all. She waggled her finger at the baby playfully, "you had me so worried, you naughty little thing!" She shook her head and continued to pet the wee little sweetheart.

I think I'll name you Athena, goddess of wisdom and war, you look like you'd suit that name perfectly" she smiled down at her new charge as Starlight lay down in the sun next to them both to take a nap and let her little one feed.

~ FIRST SADDLE ~

"Come on, Athena" the rider gently tugged on the lead rope, trying to convince the young female to follow. Unfortunately, she wasn't having any part of it, and she firmly planted feet and wouldn't move.

"Please?" her rider whined, "for me?" She gave another gentle tug, but again, Athena stood her ground.

After a few more minutes of fruitlessly trying to shift the stubborn Nera she gave up in frustration. "Ok, if you won't come to the saddle, the saddle will come to you! But you ARE getting fitted for one today, whether you like it or not, Missy!" she glared as she went to get the saddle.

When she returned, she found Athena had decided to take a nap...which wasn't very helpful, to say the least. But she was just as stubborn as this young mare. She got to work fitting the saddle, and had 90% of it on before Athena even realised.

"There" she said as she buckled the last strap in place. "Don't you look impressive!" She smiled at the pose Athena struck when she saw she was being admired. Which made her rider smile and think the whole ordeal had been worth it.

~ FIRST RIDE ~

Athena's rider was really looking forward to their first ride. The training hadn't always gone well, but she had figured out pretty early that reverse psychology seemed to work best on this girl.

The moment she was told she couldn't have something, or do something, and she focused her scarily intelligent mind on achieving that goal.

And altho she had resisted learning to wear a saddle, it had been worth it, because today, they were going for their first ride, and she couldn't wait to show off her beautiful new lady to all the stallions (and other riders).

When she arrived, it almost seemed like Athena was as eager as she was, so she got her girl saddled as quickly as she could so they could head out. Athena kept bumping her in the back as if to say "get on already" and after the fifth time, she laughed at her girls enthusiasm and climbed up into the saddle.

As soon as she got comfortable, she let Athena set the pace, which was a gentle walk at first. But as she grew more confident, she started to trot faster, until she started to gallop down the long driveway with wild abandon.

Her rider was having far too much fun to stop Athena, so she just held on for dear life and let the wind make a mess of her hair as it whipped past.
