First Touch:
"I awoke in the morning to the sound of the same old truck tumbling down the driveway. It kicked up stones and gravel as it skid to a halt by the barn, a shaking trailer behind it. There was a new driver this time, but the agency seemed to only have this one truck each time they brought a nera to my property. I shook hands with the driver, a tall brunette with kind eyes yet a stern jaw, and filled out a few bits of paper work. I unlatched the door to the trailer and peered in cautiously, only to have Boo right there at the opening, his hot breath sending chills down my spine as he huffed annoyingly into my hair. I chuckled nervously and shooed him back gently, opening the door farther. He seemed anxious to get out, but more than anything I could tell he just felt uncomfortable and awkward here. I looked him over, gauging his personality and reactions to people. He was a curious thing, fearful and odd in his own ways, and he reminded me solely of my favorite book character from which he was named. I coaxed him forward and grazed my finger tips over his muzzle, pulling him in closer to snap a lead onto his old dirty halter. He must of been waiting for an owner for quite a long time. I smiled and led him out to his new stall, tossing in some treats and fresh bedding before leaving him to settle in."

First Saddle:
"It wasnt long before he started making quite a racket. I walked back out to the barn and peered into his stall to see him huddled in the corner in fear. The poor thing pulled at my heart strings and it was obvious he didnt like being alone. I decided now was a good time as any to start working with him, hoping it would build up his confidence a bit. I led him out of the stall next to the med pen and began bathing him, measuring his build while I was at it in order to find the right tack. I didnt think I would need to make anything special for him, in fact it seemed like the spare tack I had tucked away in storage would suit just fine. I trailed out to the shed and drug everything back, letting Boo sniff it over and play with the material first. He seemed cautious, but it obviously wasnt the first time he had seen such a thing. I started with his bridle, which he took after some coaxing. His saddle pad went on gently, yet the saddle itself seemed to spook him a bit. He paced awkwardly as I hooked everything together, clicking and chirping out strange sounds each time I fumbled with a strap. Once the whole set was together he looked it over, tugging at it with his tail. I chuckled and watched as he played with the buckles, showing me just how immature he truly was despite his age. I let him play for a while and then untacked him, praising him with treats and leading him back to his stall. He seemed much more confident with his surroundings after that, curling up to sleep in the fresh hay for the night."

First Ride:
"Over time Boo grew to be a very charismatic nera, having a certain way with the mares that even I didnt understand. His fumbling awkwardness was cute and entertaining, while his skittishness made him a lesser target for the bossy males. I enjoyed having him at the farm, and was more anxious than ever to start training him for shows. The judges would definitely love his charm and personality, though we had a long way to go before he would be okay around crowds. I called out to him from inside the barn, watching as he rushed over to me, eagerly tripping over his own feet. I laughed as I clipped his lead and took him out to the paddock, tying him at the loading post. I put all of his tack on and tested my weight gently, earning a fearful jerk as he pulled away from me. I snapped at him, getting him still again, and tried a few more times. Eventually he was okay with me doing this, and allowed me to climb up onto his back and settle in. He tripped and fumbled constantly, but was otherwise very well behaved as we explored the property. He was quite curious about the parts of the land that he hadnt seen yet, and even spent quite some time playing with the mailbox. When I was done working with him and felt he was comfortable with me, I untacked him and took him back out to the pasture for the day.
