Family was found abandon on a farm, yet it looks as they were mistreated, and have all lost trust in people and hardly know what other Neravontiis are other than who are in their family of 4. She was a mistreated Nera, who had 2 foals. She is rather attached to her mate and can not be separated from him. She is unable to be around other people other than her owner. She may do fine around other Neras just will take sometime and will need to be taken very slowly.

First Touch Training!

Image

Dear Diary,
today we made a lot of progress! Tak was already fully trained, so I could trust him to stay nearby as I drove Selena off across the field. She bucked and reared as I came close, but I didn't allow her to escape. She had to go where I wanted her to go, and only when I wanted her to! In the end, she slowed down, putting her head down. That was what I had been waiting for, I turned around and walked away. I didn't turn back around, but I heard her hooves hurrying after me. After a short while of just walking, I turned back around and gently put my hand out. She carefully sniffed at it, then pushed her nose against it. I gave it a short stroke, causing her to jump back in surprise, eyes wide open. I giggled. "Oh Sel, gal!" I managed to touch her a second time, this time around the neck, before I declared our training done.

First Saddle Training!

Image

Dear Diary,
Selena's main training is now more than halfway done! Yeah, you heard right! Sel accepted the western saddle! To be honest, she found it pretty strange and made quite a big fuss about it when I first entered our training place with it. She really didn't want to touch it at all, really, until I persuaded her into sniffing at it. How I did that? Well, I gave her what she likes most: Little treats! Sel would do everything for a nice squirrel!
Thank god I had Tak, who was already fully trained and acted as an example for Sel. He was a bit nervous, having never had a western saddle on his back before, but he noticed it was nearly the same feeling, so he calmed down pretty quickly. Sel once again watched, clearly interested as I could see by her stretched neck. That was when I re-claimed the saddle and walked up to her again, gently brushing it past her neck. She was very interested in it and looked over at her back when I put the saddle on it. This time, there was no struggle, only slight miscomfort, when it touched her back. Walking around with her, I showed her the saddle wasn't that bad. Then I actually fastened it for a short time, which also worked without trouble. I'm so lucky I've got such a calm, lovely gal!

First Ride Training!

Image

Dear Diary,
I did it! I rode on Selena! Well, it took quite a bit time until I got so far as being able to mount, and then being able to tell them where to go... Well, anyway, with Tak trotting behind us (who sadly didn't fit unto this one photograph of the ride), Sel was very calm and willing to do what I said. I did need a squirrel every now and then to keep her from becoming bored and throwing me off, though. I am excited to see how it will work out tomorrow!
Oh darn, she's whining, I need to be gone, it's dinner time for all of them!
