~ FIRST TOUCH ~

Jack was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement! After being captured a month ago, he'd been adopted. And today he was finally going to meet his new owner! For him, this was the best day ever, not to mention the best xmas present a lonely Neravontii could ask for.

He ran back to the gate and peered over, hoping to see someone coming. Nope, the path was still empty. He bounced back to the end of the stall again before turning around and bouncing back.

Suddenly Jack's ears pricked up...were those footsteps he could hear?!

As soon as the gate opened he launched himself at whoever was on the other side! He felt the small body go down on the ground and like the big dopey happy puppy he was, he started licked the girls face enthusiastically while she giggle and laughed.

At least she wasn't angry, or yelling at him, he thought? She must be a very nice person, Jack decided, and he got down on the ground and rolled around with glee.

His rider wasn't sure what to think of this wet slobbery greeting, but if that was how the first touch was going to happen, she laughed at the thought of how the rest of the training would go

Then she got herself up off the ground and gave him a good scratching in all the places she knew Neras liked to be scratched, and was knocked down again in a fit of happiness.

They didn't get much more training done that day, but they sure had a lot of fun.

~ FIRST SADDLE ~

The rider knew it wasn't going to be easy getting Jack into a saddle, after all, just getting the excitable Neravontii to stand still long enough to be brushed down was nigh on impossible most days.

She didn't begrudge him his happiness tho, she knew he had waited a long time to be adopted, and so e of that was on her. She'd seen him the moment he had arrived at the centre, and while she had wanted to adopt him, she'd already been training another two Neras.

In the finish, she just couldn't ignore his puppy eyes every time she walked past the stables, and she had totally caved and adopted him. She'd noticed fewer and fewer bright colourful Neravontii being captured and didn't want to miss out on his beautiful green coat and loving personality.

It took a bit of coaxing, but she managed to get him tied to the fence. She made sure he was comfortable, and then she got to work getting the saddle on.

After already training four other Neras, she was getting pretty good at manoeuvring the heavy equipment onto their backs (it helped that she ordered a special light-weight version of the regular saddle, so she could actually lift it now.

She hoisted the saddle under one arm and slowly carefully climbed up the fence until she was level with Jack's back. Then she sat the saddle on him and waited.

He turned around to look at her as if to say 'is that it?' And the look on his face was so priceless that the rider started giggling. Jack looked like he was about to shake the saddle off so she pointed a finger at him and said "don't you dare, mister!" As she climbed back down and settled the saddle more comfortably and buckled the straps.

~ FIRST RIDE ~

As the rider finished tightening the saddle, she untired Jack from the fence and led him over to the big stump she used to mount her Neravontii. He was getting excited again so she petted him until he calmed down again.

"Time for our first ride," she said as she gave him a quick scratch. "Try not to bounce me off, if you please?" she smiled as she clambered up into the saddle in her usual ungraceful way.

She could feel the pent up energy in Jack as he tried to stay still until she was settled, once she had her feet in the stirrups and a good grip on the reins, she gave them a flick and let him run.

Jack was having the time of his life, and nothing was going to stop him, ever! Except perhaps that stream up ahead, he wasn't too sure about that, but he took a chance and leap over it anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, he thought.

He heard his rider shout out and then laugh loudly as they landed safely on the other side. He'd been worried she might be angry at him for trying the jump, but she seemed to be having as much fun as he was, so he kept going.

Leaping logs, running around trees, just having a massively fun time. After a while tho, he started to tired, so he slowed to a jog. His rider was puffing a bit as well, from having to hang on, but she was still happy, when he stopped and turned his head, he could sense the big smile on her face.

"How about we stop and walk for a bit, shall we?" she petted his neck and climbed down. "Maybe find somewhere to sit and rest a bit, have something to drink, before heading back?"

Jack was tired but happy, altho, he thought a rest did sound quite nice. He found a shady spot under a tree and flopped down into the grass. His rider flopped down beside him and leaned against his belly. "That was so much fun," she said as she scratched his side where the straps were a bit itchy.

"We're definitely going to have to do that again," she grinned over at Jack. He couldn't agree more!
