Breed: American Paint Horse [50%] Mustang [50%]
Height: 15.2 hands
Secret: Sadie has a secret background. As a foal, she was especially small and frail. As the daughter of two elite reining horses, however, great things were expected of this little mare. But, she grew especially slowly through her first and second years; in fact, by the time she was two, she was only 13.3 hands. She shot up between her second and third year, reaching 15 hands, although she seemed to have trouble keeping her balance and her legs were often swollen. This was dismissed as her simply adjusting to her growth, but it was obvious that something else was going on by the time she was getting ridden. Frighteningly, this horse would fall over while being ridden, injuring and scaring many riders. Her legs were even more swollen, and people around the barn noticed that even though she was eating plenty, she seemed to be loosing weight. Her owners decided to call the vet.
Equine Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy. That was the vet's diagnosis. More commonly known as EPSM, it's a disease that affects the muscular and skeletal systems in many breeds, among which are paint horses. She fit all off the systems and tested positive for it when they took blood. The vet suggested a certain feed and exercise routines for Sadie, although even when she reached peak condition, she would never be able to rein. The most this pretty horse would be able to do was walk and trot lightly for just thirty minutes a day. This sent her owners into an outrage. They paid a high price for the breeding of this foal, and now it wouldn't produce anything back for them. They brought her to an auctioneer that passed her off to a meat trailer for just $200, but one of Cottonwood's officials bought her just before they left, saving this horse.
Sadie doesn't like to tell anyone about her condition, so most horses just think that she's used as a leisurely trail horse. And although her legs do swell from time to time and she's much skinnier than other horses, she acts like she's okay for both her own sake and the sake of those who care for her.
((Sorry this is so long, I got a sudden burst of muse xD))
