Seakit #35 - Winner!

Postby mars » Mon Sep 22, 2014 4:19 pm

∘What Are Seakits∘
Seakits are an adorable little species caught somewhere between a feline and a fish, creating some sort of aquatic land cat. This species lives in a small dug out den in the sand on the shores of the ocean. Seakits eat a variety of fish and seaweed. They can only be under water for around 20 minutes at most. Seakits have a fun little play on their name, ["seakits" - "seek its!"]. Anything that glimmers on land or sea goes into their hoarding den on the ocean floor. Seakits range in size from a robin [baby] to a small dog [adult]. Seakits never act aggressively unless their nest, den or hoard are being disturbed, in which case they spike up their fins and bear their teeth.

This is my first seakit as GA, I hope you guys like her! <3
She's based on traditional Hindu henna, various patterns I found online. Since it was quite complicated to make her design, her colors are quite plain and dark ^w^

Hi there, my name is luisa.
I'd like to win this Seakit because I have always been intrigued by the art of Henna tattooing,
and I think it is a beautiful way to express yourself.
If this beauty became my first adult Seakit, I would be extremely happy. c:

Image
If I won this beautiful little girl, I would name her Talawa.
This Middle Eastern name means "Beauty" and "Grace".
I think these two words describe her perfectly. c:

As you might have guessed by the name,
I think this beauty should be a female. c:

A warm breeze blew across the white sand and the tall palm trees swayed quietly in the wind. The waves crashed onto the beach, creating a soothing rhythm.
Crash... crash... crash... crash...
Talawa's eyelids drooped as she started to get sleepy. The sun was already setting, and it was starting to get colder. Soon it would be too cold to be outside. The weather here was strange. It was always extremely hot during the daytime and intensely cold during the night. Sometimes there would be storms. They would start as gentle breezes which would quickly escalate into strong gales, and then the water would come pouring down from the sky, sometimes for days without end. Afterwards the beaches would be littered with palm branches and driftwood and broken seashells.
Everyone was afraid of the storms, especially Talawa. Such a storm had separated her from her parents a long time ago, and she had never found them again. Suspecting one of these storms was going to come creeping up soon, she stood up, stretched, and gracefully padded into her burrow. It was a spacious den, with multiple chambers. The floors were covered in palm leaves and everything was dry and warm. It was prefect for hiding from the chill of the night, and if it was storming, the entrance could easily be covered with sand to keep out the rain. Yawning, Talawa stretched herself out in the middle of the den and contently closed her eyes. Her breathing gradually began to slow and, after a long time, she fell asleep.
That night, the storm arrived. It shook trees and blew sand away and caused the waves to grow and crash onto the shores with a greater ferocity than ever before. The humans cowered in their houses and the animals shook in their burrows. The birds fled inland and the creatures of the sea went out into the ocean as far as they could. The rain poured down and the lightning flashed and the thunder boomed. It raged all night. Then, as morning began to grow closer, the wing quieted to a fresh breeze and the dark clouds crept towards the horizon and disappeared.
Talawa woke up to a clear sky and a messed up beach. Sighing, she went to work. Biting down hard on a piece of driftwood, she slowly dragged it out to the water and pushed it out to sea. The waves were too weak to bring it back, so it slowly drifted away. She returned to the beach and pulled away the next piece. Working all morning, she managed to clean up her part of the beach without too many problems. Her den was full of fresh leaves and the beach was tidy enough for her. Satisfied, she leapt into the sea.
The cool water swirled around her as she dove underwater. She swam out to sea with strong strokes, her tail acting like a rudder to steer her and at the same time pushing her forwards and creating a trail of bubbles behind her. A school of silver fish flitted around her and she snapped at one, barely missing it. The next one she caught and ate quickly, already swimming after the next.
She enjoyed hunting. She loved jumping after one little silver-grey blur and splitting the swirling tornado of fish into two, and then have it rejoin behind her. She loved feeling the satisfied crunch of the fish between her jaws, and the feeling of fullness that filled her soon after. She liked the beauty and harmony and nature of it all, how she depended on the fish for her food and they depended on her to sort out the weaker, slower ones. Neither could live without the other, and it somehow made her feel balanced.
After her tummy was filled, she slowly paddled back to the shore. Her burrow was on the very tip of a long, skinny peninsula. When the tide was high, it was an island. If you swam for a hour to the north, you would find a large town that was spread out along the beach and then slowly thinned out and disappeared. To the south there was a thick, jungle-like forest, which went on farther than Talawa had ever travelled. She was content on her peninsula, so she stayed there. Now she was tired. A shallow pit in the sand looked exactly right for a small nap, so she spread herself out there and slept.
The sun was high in the sky when she woke up and decided to hunt for some treasure. She hadn't found anything in a long time, but she felt like today her luck might change. Eager and excited, she dove into the sea and sped off towards the far horizon, her head above the water and her tail splashing up foam. She rose and fell over the waves and made her way onto smoother water, where she proceeded to joyfully thrash around and make bubbles. The water was her element, her home, her life. She would swim forever if she could, for nothing gave her greater joy than watching the waves rush by her as she splashed through them and out onto the ocean. A fish jumped over her, followed by a couple more. They were gone as soon as they had come, and Talawa raced on. Then she dove. It got darker as she slowly went deeper. There were less and less fish to be seen, but she never felt lonely as long as she was surrounded by water. It took her almost five minutes to reach the sandy ground of the ocean. There were corals and seaweed and strange rocks, and she scanned the ground for anything that glittered. Something caught her eye in the distance, and she swam over. She recognized the shine of a pearl hidden between the rocks, and quickly got it out. Then something sparkled nearby, and she soon found a strange flat, round thing with weird engravings on it. There were more nearby, so she collected those as well. Then she saw a strange wooden chest that was cracked open to reveal something else that sparkled, and she pulled a couple more of the flat round things out from it, followed by a long, thin chain with a heavy sparkling red stone hanging on the end of it. She couldn't get anything else out, and her breath was starting to run out, so she pushed her way upwards with her mouth and her paws full.
Bursting out of the water, she took a deep breath and almost let her sparkling treasure fall back into the water. She made her way back to shore as the sun slowly sunk towards the waves. When her paws padded up the sand of her beach, the sun was already slightly touching the horizon. The waves were crashing onto the sand, creating the usual gentle rhythm.
Crash... crash... crash... crash...
She pulled the treasure into her den and went back outside to lie down on the sand and watch the sun set. Her eyelids drooped as she started to get sleepy...
