The pet can be any sort of aquatic life that lives (or can live) entirely in water and really exists.

Why he has the Scarf/Pet:
When Delphin was growing up, he lived with his father on a little house by the beach. Ever since he could remember, his father worked at an aquarium, assisting the manager with all the sealife that was sold there at the store. Fin always wanted to help his father out when he visited the store, but he was not allowed, for many reasons. Each day, Fin got upset for he always wanted to feel important, especially to his favorite type of animals-- sea life. Fin often left the store, while his father was working, to go swimming in the ocean, to keep his mind occupied instead of being jealous of his father. One day, he came across a little glass bottle, filled with fresh water. Curious, Delphin swam closer, spotting a little goldfish floating in the bottle. Fin knew enough about fish to know that the bobbing of the water would be enough to make a small fish like a goldfish dizzy. He quickly snatched the bottle, and rushed to his father, hoping that the fish was still alive. Thankfully, it was. Fin's father allowed Fin to keep the goldfish, for he felt that the young boy was finally ready.
