Raz was born into a long line of trapeze artist who traveled in a small but growing circus. Being a trapeze artist came naturally to Raz, sometimes so naturally that it bored him. Then one day an old male joined their circus, he was a fire eater. This caught everyone’s attention instantly. Fire eaters were not very well known and this circus had never seen one before. Raz was dazzled and excited by fire eating, so much more than his trapeze act. With wide eyes Raz would often visit him after his show to hear all about the act of fire eating, which the old male referred to as having the “dragonheart”. Quickly Raz realized that he wanted to learn how to eat fire and soon started to pick up bits of the act from watching and asking questions. Raz had finally found life exciting again! He loved this new talent he was quickly acquiring. But alas soon the old fire eater decided to move on to other circus’. Before he went he gave Raz some words of wisdom he would never forget. As he bumped his fist on Raz’ chest the old man said, ‘Dragonhearts are a rare and far but you have more heart than all of them put together, Just keep on breathing.’
Raz had been renewed! This is what he decided he wanted to do. But when he told his family that they were not pleased in the least. “We come from 50 years of trapeze artists, this is what we do.” said his father. “ fire eater! HA! That is not a real circus act. You need to stop this crazy destructive behavior Raz.” Raz was devastated by how his family felt. But to appease them he said he would give up on it but when no one was around he let his dragonheart out.
For years he hid his talent from everyone and continued to work the trapeze. When he became an adult he decided he wasn’t going to hide who he was anymore, he was going to follow his dreams of fire eating. Needless to say his family was not pleased, at first. But as time went on and they realized just how talented he was in his fire eating, and how much they missed him on the trapeze with them. So they later asked him to come back to the trapeze “you have so much talent, we need you with us Raz” his mother said to him. “Come back and do both, breath fire and be in our act.” Raz decided to accept his families offer, and nothing made him happier than to be with his family and be doing what he loved. Only then did he feel whole and that he lived up to his name completely.
