I Wasn't Always perfect.

My Tragic Love Story

He was handsome. He was true. But then again, I didn't know what he would do.
He broke my heart, tore it to pieces.
I was left for dead, all alone.
Regret and pain washed over me,
Blackening my heart until it could love no more.
Then a light came into my life.
Made me shine a little brighter.
But my heart was still corrupt.
It turned my once beautiful pelt drab,
Caused my vibrant blue eyes and flowers to turn white.
I felt like a ghost,
Oh so paper thin.
People liked me,
But they couldn't see what was within.
I became perfect,
Fixing all my flaws
So that I would never fall victim
To another monster.

"But I don't want to leave, I have roots here! Literally!" Somett cried out.
It was no use, his family had to drag him away from the burning
home that used to be his. Tears seemed to be endless as he
stared at the fire that engulfed the outline of his house.

As the fire died out, Somett broke into a sprint towards the
crumbled house. The giant oak tree that once stood firm
in the backyard was toppled over and burnt. The young
Plumerian had reached the ashes, gasping for air after
the long, endless run. His home was now nothing but
charcoal and broken memories.
Somett couldn't help himself from padding over to
the oak tree which he so greatly loved. Pressing his paws
and forehead against the blackened wood, Somett turned
his head to see roots reaching up from the dirt. He quickly
darted towards them and started to tear the weak ones from
the oak, cursing them for not being strong enough to hold it
firmly in the ground. Somett angrily turned away from the
roots and creeped towards it's higher branches. He stared
upwards, from the giant branches still reached towards the sun.
A loud creak split through the air and Somett stared in terror
as a branch fell from above and towards him.

I was going to finish this up by typing about how he lost his
memory and immediately began to love the little roots
and found some pretty little untouched flowers nearby,
but I'm simply too lazy ;A;

lot of thought before. It's extremely involuntary and if he could
control it, he certainly would. Sometimes his bluntness effects
how people see him.

sympathetic - This corresponds with his kindness. When he sees
that something is hurt, he automatically goes into "Are you
alright?" mode. it can get irritating to some, but most just
roll with it because they know that Somett won't stop until
they can confirm that they're alright or until Somett thinks
he's fixed the problem.

overreactive - Somett exaggerates emotions a lot. Say he's
happy something happens, he will swquee over it and jump
around for hours. This also means that he overreacts when
he gets upset or sad. You could say that he is a "drama
queen", but that wouldn't be going far enough.

gullible - This is one of the more negative traits. Somett is very,
very gullible. He's extremely easy to lie to.
This makes him very susceptible to jokes, pranks, lies,
etc. When Somett finds out, he usually starts to cry,
though he recovers quickly.

⸢History

When he was born, before he could be named, a disaster fell upon his family. A plague spread like a mist settling over a quiet city. Once the gravity of the illness was realized, the decision was made to send the unnamed pup away. However, the one responsible for taking him away from there fell ill while traveling and the orphaned pup was left alone in the woods. Cold and scared. The roots of white flower nearby crept toward the child and they spoke in the language of souls, which only those without a vocal language understand. He whimpered at the roots as scared pups often do. They whispered to him, in a sweet, silky voice, "You have been abandoned. The plagues of animals do not affect us. Come into our embrace and we shall protect you from this plague." The pup once again whimpered in response, he was scared and alone and the soul of the plant that spoke to him was strange. It whispered to him again, silencing his whimpers of fear. "It is alright. You do not need to fear us. We will protect you." The roots curled into his fur and held him tightly in their warm embrace. And so he slept. The plant nourished him as mother nourishes her unborn baby until the disease had taken its toll and could no longer survive in In that land. By then, the boy had grown up communicating with only the spirit of the plant, by making use of the language of souls.

The plant was a very old plant and asked the boy his name one day. "We tire of calling you 'child' and soon you will be a child no longer." The boy replied with his soul for his mouth was never taught to speak, "I have no name for there was no time to name me. The illness was spreading and they couldn't let me get infected." The plant did not respond for a while, as if it was pondering this. It said, "Then we shall call you Insidiae." The boy was puzzled for his soul did not understand Latin, "What does it mean?" The plant smiled in a way only the plants can and responded, "It means trap. Like a plot or conspiracy." The boy was horrified by the name, "But why would you name me that, then?" The plant sighed and spoke again, "Because you are the insider. Technically you have invaded us here." Insidiae frowned, "But I am not a trap." The plant and the boy argued for some time before Insidiae accepted the name. It made more sense now that he knew the whole story. When the plant had taken the boy in, he was infected. The plant linked its circulatory system to his and isolated every infected cell and removed it. The infected cells were broken down and the virus was contained. It stored the virus in it's white flowers which it had intended to kill off but something in the virus made that impossible. The plant spoke again, seemingly unprovoked. "These flowers are the real trap." it whispered. Insidiae sighed in understanding and shut his eyes to sleep.

A few years passed and the boy aged slowly. When he had been alive for five years, he still seemed only two. The plant had slowed his metabolism to reserve him so the boy did not age as fast as a normal creature. Now that the boy had no trace of the virus within him, the plant allowed him to be an independent being. He rested in a bed of black plant roots, with white flowers blossoming all around him. The rest of the forest was dying and decaying. As the boy grew older he watched the plants die and he asked of his guardian, "Will that happen to us?" The plant did not respond. Insidiae opened his eyes and took in the world with the senses of his body rather than his soul. He looked at the plant and saw that it, too, was dying. It spoke to him again, the voice of it's soul suddenly old and withered. "Go," it croaked, "and take some of the healthy root with you. I have sustained you for years, please, do the same for me." He nodded dutifully and gathered some of the roots. He placed them like a crown upon his head and bid his guardian farewell and he walked away slowly and awkwardly for he had not used his legs since he was very young.

He wanders now, attached only to the plant attached to him, but it is not as simple as it would seem. Roots sprouted from his fur as if they originated inside of him. The plant no longer spoke to Insidiae. Instead, Insidiae spoke to him every day. He began to forget the language of souls that he had spoken for his entire life as he traveled and met new people. Brief friendships formed but one day, he'd just leave. It was a lonely life without anyone, so he protected the one who had once been his guardian and he planted pieces of the plant wherever he went and it continued to grow, spreading over his body like decoration. The flowers that bloomed now, straight from the exposed root, were pure. They were free of virus and the young Insidiae was also functioning without aid. Though his life was simpler, no one could understand him. Not really. He tried to explain to one of his acquaintances that he had to travel and had never stayed somewhere for more than a day. She looked at him with a look of rage and fury, "That's stupid! You can never enjoy your life if you have to start over every day!" He simply replied in his small voice, "That doesn't matter. I am alive, aren't I? I am-" "Stupid." she said interrupting him, "You are stupid! You know nothing about living. Insidiae is a weird name, Dae suits you better." He gave her a questioning look but she didn't make another comment. Later that day, he left there and never looked back. As he traveled now, he thought about what she had said so he found a nice place to live and he settled there. He decided that it was time. He lives isolated in the forest, the plant was allowed to grow freely in a small cave and it has taken over the space, lining the walls and floor. The roots grow over the entrance like a curtain, mostly hiding the place. Small white flowers that hang from the ceiling attract fireflies that create a dim glow in the small dark space. It's not much, but it is home.

Insidiae was never exposed to a typical childhood and grew up very mature. He has begun to develop a slight superiority complex now that he is in society. He considers himself wise, and while that may be true, he does not have all the answers as he claims to. He gained wisdom beyond his years while in the care of the plant. Its roots stretched deep within the earth and shared the secrets of the earth with the boy. His connection with the earth is greater than that of others he is in company with and that also causes him to think more highly of himself than others. His superiority complex is helpful though. He constantly strives to be better and spends a lot of time in places of learning and compulsively keeps a journal documenting everything he has ever learned for reference. He doubts he will forget, but Dae wants to be certain that he always has access to the information. However, all of this in conjunction with his tendency to not be in one place for long has made it hard for him to make, let alone maintain, meaningful relationships aside from with his guardian. He has lost the skill and now finds it impossible. He finds himself slipping more into the definition of a sociopath as he has learned he has little to no subjective empathy. He is paranoid about his self diagnosis and sees it as something that makes him inferior and thus he conceals this hypothesis from everyone except his guardian.
