MGH #41 - Adopt Me!

Mana Geared Hyenas share the same anatomy as the ordinary hyenas, however they are born with
metal intertwined around their left forearm. The metal contains two gems embedded into it and
the Hyenas use it as a controller for their mana. Each hyena contains the magic of one of
the four basic elements, fire, water, air and earth. Their left paws contain the
ability to use these given powers, which can be very destructive. However, the Hyenas will
only use their powers when threatened. Any abuse of power is punished by blackening the gems in
their metal gear, rendering their powers useless with no chance of re-obtaining them.

    Name: Clema
    Gender: Female
    Element: Air
Favorite place: The sun rises over the grassy hills to reveal a meadow filled with many vibrant, colorful flowers. Across that meadow you can find a small pool of water almost able to qualify as a lake if only it were a bit deeper. If you take a look into it's crystal clear water, you will see a few minnows swimming bellow the surface as well as a turtle basking on a smooth rock. Of course, the creatures will flee the second you draw near, but it's only instinct so there's no need to feel responsible. On the other side of the pool, the area turns a bit more rocky and boulders begin to appear. Those are the rocks that many hyenas enjoy climbing on, no matter how many times they slip and fall on the damp surface. If you successfully make it to the top of them, a feat which is surprisingly hard to accomplish, you will be treated to the beautiful sight of the sky when it's at it's best. Returning to the flowery meadows which were mentioned before, you will notice something strange. The flowers only grow on one side of the field and on the other, they become rather scarce. That's because the tall hills on that side block out the sun which makes it nearly impossible for such flowers to thrive. Although it doesn't suit the needs of the plants, it's a great place for hyenas to rest, for it provides them with protection from the sun's heated rays. Now, you may be wondering how a place like this could be real and not plucked straight out of a fantasy novel, are you not? Well allow me to explain what this place really is; it's Clema's territory. Her pack of fellow hyenas thrive here, and it will always be that one special place inside her heart.

Dayton, being one who loves to travel, dreams about her favorite place almost all day each day. When she was really young, she was on her daily walk through a meadow when she heard a bird chirping. To her, this was an unusual chirp. She had lived in this meadow long enough to recognize each type of bird's chirps and calls. Being curious of this new sound, Dayton decided to investigate. Dayton searched high and low for the mysterious bird. After several minutes of searching, she was going to forget about it and move on with her walk. When she turned around, standing on a small lump of dirt, was a colorful bird. Compared to her small, young body, the bird seemed huge to Dayton. The colorful bird twisted its head as Dayton stared at it in disbelief, never seeing a bird like this before. The bird gave a friendly chirp to Dayton and spread out its wings. The strange bird lifted itself off the ground and circled above Dayton. Dayton backed away from beneath the bird and tilted her head and observed its strange behavior. The bird chirped once again and took off to the east. Dayton quickly picked up her feet and raced to catch up with the bird. The bird would slow down, then do a zig-zag motion, and continue straight and speed up. Dayton had started to struggle keeping up with this agile bird, panting and slowing down a lot. After what felt like twenty minutes of chasing, Dayton decided it was time to stop and head back - she was in no mood to play games. She slowed down to a stop, watched the bird continue to put on a show in mid-air while flying, rolled her eyes and turned around. After only about ten feet of walking back home, the eccentric bird dove down and flew right by Dayton's face, sat on the ground behind her and chirped at her once again. Dayton turned around, ready to chase the bird away. But, when she turned around, there was a large forest behind the bird. The bird chirped at Dayton, turned towards the forest, and started walking to it. Curious, Dayton followed. Once the bird knew Dayton was following, it bounced off the ground and started flying deep into the forest. Once again, Dayton chased after it. But this time, the bird was too fast. Dayton lost the bird but kept going. Then, in the dead silence of the forest, Dayton heard the bird call. She knew it was calling for her. She raced in the direction of which she heard the bird. Beyond a group of trees, there was a light. Dayton slowed down to a walk in amazement. There was a small cliff with a waterfall leading to a pond. And sitting by the pond, as if it was waiting for her, was the bird. Dayton fell in love at first sight. Being as tired as she was, she walked to the pond and laid down. Soon enough, she feel asleep. A couple hours later when she awoke, she was no longer at this paradise. She was back in the meadow with no forest in sight. The only thing there was as a clue that where she was before she awoke wasn't a dream was the single, colorful feather lying on the ground in front of her. Ever since that day, Dayton has been trying to find her paradise once again.
