I won this mare via the re-adoption event. Her new show name is SF's Catch You on the Flipside, and her barn name is Rebound.

Ever since I first laid eyes on the silvery mare on the auction block, I knew I had to bring her home.

I dubbed this mare Rebound after seeing how quickly she bounced back from the hardship she'd experienced.

Build;; Due to the neglect she suffered while being moved from home to home, Rebound is a little skinnier than we would like her to be. However, she eats well and is putting on weight and developing muscle once again. We believe she'll always be a little skinny, but as long as she is healthy we are happy.

Although Rebound came from a hard life, she's putting on weight and looking glossier each and every day.

Energetic;;
Rebound is a mare with endless energy. Despite her rather harsh upbringing, she has a limitless supply of energy that allows her to do anything and everything, making her quite the spirited little mare. She knows that being lazy will get her nowhere in life, so does her best to stay active and fit. Even when she's got a day out in her pasture, we will see her making a fool of herself with the other mares, or chasing the shadows of birds as they fly overhead.

Loyal;;
Rebound has learned to trust those who look after her, and once it's established, it takes a lot to convince her to stray from this trust. Eternally loyal, the dappled mare will follow you to the end, just so long as you're her friend. Although we feared she would have no trust when we received her, we have since learned that she is such a brave soul, and is willing to risk her heart over and over in the hopes of maintaining true bonds. Even if you make a mistake, she'll forgive you and move past it, often before you forgive yourself.

Curious;;
Growing up a 'sheltered', structured life left Rebound lacking much real world experience. Due to her relatively trusting and unfearful nature, she is eternally curious about everything. Things such as trees, rocks, pools of water and wind fascinate her, but most of all she loves snow. Many a time I have come across her in her pasture, gazing at the snow with wonder in her eyes. Once she has experienced a bit more of life, we believe her curiosity will die down somewhat, yet it is also quite possible she will always remain on the lookout for the next adventure.

Flexible;;
Rebound is surprisingly flexible. To her, stubborn is a foreign word. This flexibility has served her well in that she is capable of adapting to whatever comes, be it good, or bad. Despite her flexibility, she still has a strong will. She knows what she wants, yet understands that the only way to truly be happy is to compromise. This makes her a joy to work with, as she listens, yet is not entirely dependent on you. Her flexibility also makes her one of our sweetest, safest horses at The Silent Forest Stud.

Friendly;;
The dappled mare Rebound has a sense of friendliness equal to the number of dapples that cover her body! She's friendly to the extreme, willing to push her muzzle into the coat of whoever stops by in search of a treat. We are so lucky that she remains friendly despite the ordeal she's experienced in her earlier life, and her friendly spirit encourages the rest of us to be just a little bit nicer.

Determined;;
As a mare who's been through so much, we are amazed eery day by Rebound's strength and resilience. Her awe-inspiring ability to move forwards shows a massive amount of internal strength, and we are so touched and honoured to know her. She inspires us to be better people each and every day.

Likes;;

* Snow -- Rebound is enchanted by the snow. She is completely mesmerized when it begins to fall, and will watch and adore it for hours on end.
* Space -- Rebound needs a lot of space to remain happy. When she's got a green stretch of land before her that she can run upon, she is at her happiest. Without this space, she gets mopey and down, one of the only times she's ever this way.
* Running -- Re loves to run, to feel the dirt under her hooves and the grass fly by. She gains a freedom when running that she does not otherwise feel, and it makes her happier than ever to have the opportunity to run.
* Life -- Most of all, Re loves her life as it is. She feels so lucky to have found a better life, and she revels in it every day.

Dislikes;;

* Starting Gates -- Rebound has an undisguised dislike of starting gates -- too many bad memories. Although she loves to run, due to this dislike, racing is out of the question.
* People touching her head -- Again, due to bad experiences and some harsh people, Rebound has a strong dislike for people touching her head. Until she trusts you, she'll make sure you stay well away from her face.
* Bits -- Unsurprisingly, most of Rebound's fears stem from bad experiences. Like all the others, her dislike of bits come from her days as a racehorse, where harsh bits were used to make 'the problem horse' behave.
* Screaming/clapping - Very loud noises coming from people generally upset her, so we try to keep people calm around her. Otherwise she'll get spooky, something that's so uncommon from the usually quiet mare.

Taking in such a scarred mare was a long-shot, but we are so lucky to have rolled our dice and hit the jackpot. Rebound is everything we imagined and more.

//History//

Rebound was born on a massive Thoroughbred farm in the American state of Kentucky, renowned for it's horse-racing. Born into a long line of top racers, her owners had great dreams for the spindly foal. However, when their prize stud was stolen, they rethought their lives. Deciding that their fortunes would go further in the blooming computer industry, they sold off all their horses, including ready-to-race two year old Rebound to another, smaller racing business. When she didn't run as they'd expected, they beat her, using whatever means possible to force her into winning. Yet they did not succeed, and eventually in disgust they gave up, selling her to an auction centre to be rehomed in whatever means possible. For the next year she was shunted between various places, none of them keeping her longer than a month before calling her ill-tempered, vengeful and dangerous. Finally, with all other options exhausted, it seemed as if the now scrawny mare was destined for the slaughterhouse, the fate of so many ex-racehorses. She was underfed and flighty when the young woman Quetzal, known as Feather to her friends, first laid eyes on her at an auction. Much to her despair, Rebound was sold as part of a group, destined for a gristly end. Determined to save these seven horses from the gristly fate of dog-food, Quetzal purchased the entire group. Over the course of the next year, she trained, fed and rehomed five of the seven. The seventh was Rebound, who was in a worse situation then the others. After spending hours in the mares company as she nursed her back to health, Quetzal couldn't bare to part with her, and ended up keeping her despite the warnings that she was a dangerous mare. With a lot of care and a lot of time, Feather established a solid bond with the fragile mare, that continues to be kept up today.
