What is a Kora?
A Kora is a large feline largely resembling a leopard or lion. All Koras have a fluffy dorsal mane, starting from the end of the tail and ending at the crown of the head, falling over the face. Their faces are broad, like a lion, but they have wider eyes adapted to seeing in the dark. Koras have large, tufted tails. We have yet to know what the purpose of such an ornamental tail would be. Koras have short, coarse fur, good for keeping out water and unfavorable temperatures. Much like their ancestors, the leopard, cheetah, and jaguar, all Koras have spots almost covering their bodies. Occasionally they may be more sparse, but they will always have them for the purpose of camouflage in their harsh wild habitat.

No one really knows where Nox came from, or what he is, really, but they all know one thing; he isn't like the rest of them.
Nox was born in a lab. Scientists wanted to make the ultimate weapon, and while they'd been using animals in warfare for centuries, they wanted to step up their game. They had been tampering with his DNA, and once created, nothing they did could be undone.
They had taken DNA from one of the strongest male Koras and one of the prettiest female Koras in their lab. They then mixed plasma attained from somewhere in the galaxy, infusing that into his body, watching as it contorted him. Once "born", he looked like any normal cub, but they began seeing changes in him. He could run faster than all of the other cubs, he was much stronger than them, and at night...something terrible was brought out of him.
When he was a teenager, Nox escaped from the lab and hid underwater for nearly a month. Because of his enhanced DNA, most of the energy needed for his cells to function properly could be taken from the water, so as long as he stayed relatively close to the surface, he didn't need to breath.
At night, Nox would lock himself away in a cave, barricading it so no one would get in. Nothing physically would change about Nox, but mentally, he collapsed, and something savage would come out. All he knew was that he blacked out at night, and when he woke up, everything around him was in a disarray.
He grew up in solitude, never really knowing the company of other Koras until he was well over the age of two. The group he ran into helped him cope with the monster inside and showed him compassion he'd never felt before.
If you ever met Nox, you would find him grumpy and unsettling. His hard life has left him to be cold and uncaring, though if you touched a hair on the heads of anyone he happened to get attached to, the beast may come out just a bit early. He is often referred to as dark and silent, always brooding over something.
Nox isn't sure what love is, really, but he's already assumed he doesn't deserve it and will never get it.
