One note for the future is: two black-based horses can't make a palomino, a palomino requires at least one parent with the cream gene and one chestnut based parent.

The mother is sooty palomino, does that still count or does the sooty have to pass on with the foal?

The mom isn't a sooty palomino though, she's a sooty buckskin. Therefore they could have a buckskin foal (no sooty needed) but they just couldn't have a palomino. XD
