Personality:
Catatonic is an interesting mare... or should I just say, a normal mare. She does have her attitude swings.
Most of the time she is really sweet, especially when you are grooming her, or just hanging around to give her attention.
When it comes to riding, she is mostly good, it is just that if you do flatwork she totally makes it hard for you, that is why she requires a more experienced rider. Catatonic is not the most friendly horse to other horses, but she is fine with some, including her best friend Mystery.
Story:
I don't need an alarm to wake up in the morning. It has become a habit to roll out of bed at 5:30am to start my day at the ranch. Anyway, if I don't wake up, I have a loud puppy to do it for me. When I take a step out of my cabin into the freezing morning air, I am immediately awake and ready for the day. Living so close to Cottonwood is a blessing, as I only have to drive about two minutes to get to the stables. Most of the time I walk, but today I jump into the truck. Marvel is not far behind, and takes his place in the passengers seat. I turn on the radio and start talking to Marvel, "Might as well make the best of the car ride! We don't have radios on horses!" Marvel barked as to say, "You are so silly." I agree with him.
When we got to the stable, just a few people where their. Sean, one of the stable hands, waves at me. I jog up to him, "Hia Sean. is Sarah here?" he shook his head, "She left a message on the barn phone saying she was going to be late, but she wanted you to go check some horse out, it is for lease or something like that..." he said, scratching his head. I nodded and headed towards the office.
Listening to her message, I grabbed a pen and paper. Seren, one of the barn managers, was leasing out a horse named Catatonic. She was an amazing jumper, and though she could be wild, she could jump like a champ! I jotted down the stall number. I was exited to see her, but I had promised myself I would do some training with Jacko, one of my new horses.
After spending about 45 minutes with Jacko, I headed to the second barn. From what Sarah had said, Catatonic would be their. The ranch was getting busier by the second, this barn especially. Out of the many barns, this was the only one with a built in radio. The country music's volume was always kept low, but it gave a cheerful atmosphere to the place. When I saw the gold plate with Catatonics name over her stall door I smiled. I knew who this horse was! I remembered when she first arrived! The little Gulstra Plume mare!
I peeked over the wood wall and gave some gentle clucking sounds. Yes! This was the Gulstra Plume! But she was not so little any more! She stood a good 16.1hh, and because she was only four, she will probably grow more. She nickered, but when I showed her my hand, she threw her head up and took a few steps back. "Silly girl" I said in a soft voice, "Are you a little shy? I believe I am going to ride you today!" She put her head down. I felt a hand on my sholder and jumped, making Catatonic throw her head up again. It was just Sarah. "Oh my gosh! I am so sorry Teresa! I did not mean to scare you." she exclaimed. "It's ok! I do it too much myself to care." I replied, and smiled.
After feeding horses, polishing saddles, and mucking stalls, I was finally sitting on Catatonics back. I could feel her shiver with excitement, and urged myself to relax and feed that relaxation to her. Today Sarah would help me. "Take her to the middle of the arena, and we will just start with a walk, after making two laps, you can make one of your smooth transitions to the trot." She spoke loud and clear. Catatonic took huge steps and we covered ground quickly. As we took off into the trot, she started throwing her head around. "Relax your arms, but keep tight fists so she does not pull those reins out of your hands". I nodded. Sarah was an amazing trainer and seemed to see the smallest yet most important things. It took us a few laps to get an amazing under the bit, floating trot. "Great job! Now that would win a ribbon." she said clapping her hands, of course, taking Catatonics attention off me. Sarah realized what she had done, "Sorry!" she said, but I did not care! A small creature emerged from the bushes. Marvel. He saw me on the horses back and gave a loud BARk!. Catatonic certainly was not expecting it and spooked, causing me to loose my balance. Feeling my tense body, she gave a buck. I completely lost it and slipped out of the saddle, landing on my butt, "Hello ground..." I said, like I always do when I fall off. She stood confused looking at me. I was still holding the reins so she couldn't go anywhere. "Good girl." I said, picking myself up, brushing the arena sand off my butt. Sarah jogged up to me. "Are you ok?" she asked. I nodded. "I don't think that puppy will ever learn." I said, a frown on my face. "Don't blame Marvel!" she said patting my shoulder, "I think it was just his little bark that scared her, and he's just being a dog." I agreed, it has happened before and it will happen again. Marvel was not in sight. He had probably felt bad about what he did, or so I hope.
"So! She is up for lease, and possible adoption! Would you like to take a go at it?" Sarah asked after our ride, her eyes wide. I thought about it. Seriously? Do I have to think? I couldn't turn it down! Of course I wanted to lease her! "I think I could do it." I said calmly, though my insides where jumping with excitement. Ok then! I will call Seren and tell her! You will only be doing a half lease as another person will be riding trying her out too, but otherwise, I think that your good!
What will I do with her?:
I saw this girl when she was first made, and her simpleness struck my as beautiful.
Though I have TONS of hunter/jumpers, I guess I could consider myself a hoarder.
But otherwise, yes, she will go into the horses that I could show in comps.
I will find her a thoroughbred mate and maybe we can start a family tree like I have done with many of my horse <33
I can't promise a SUPER active life with her, but I really would love to be able to call her mine <33
Theme Song
Just The Way You Are
Quirks:
When you say "Ding Dong" she will bob her head up and down.
Also, she loved being scratched on her chest like a dog <33
