Why Did I choose This Name?
What is more beautiful than Music may I ask? Ok, so we have the horse, but the second most beautiful thing in the world is music.
As the most beautiful WTE we have to have her the most beautiful name and their for, we will name her Melody. Her mane glows like the moonlight on a full moon at midnight on a summers day. She is so petite and fragile you feel like if you touch her she will break in your hands. A delicate piece of beauty, as a Nightingale bird. Every wonderful horse has a long graceful name, so her birth name will be Midnights Nightingale~
Do I think this suits her?
Most of my WTE's are named after their gleaming eyes. The colors in their eyes. This girls coat and mane shine so bright that she does not need her beautiful eyes to be named. Nor her color for that matter. She is so beautifully built that her name does not need colors to find itself.
So yes, I believe that this name suites her like a sunset suites the sea.
History And Life
Born on a full moon I was, as my mothers warm tongue licked me clean. I squinted at the bright moon as I opened my eyes for the first time and stared at it to let my eyes a just. How beautiful it was. I did not get all of my fragileness from nowhere, naturaly my mother was quite a fragile type too. She nuzzled me to listen as I lay lie their and try to focas on the world around me. A slight chirping sound in the distance rewarded me and I gave a small high picked nicker in reply. "Those are crickets," Mother told me, "They are midnights song my little darling." I looked up at her with my big green eyes. "Look up" She told me and gestured to the sky. I looked up to find millions of sparkles twinkling in the sky. "Those are stars, Like your eyes." She whispered, "What else do you see in the sky above you?" I looked up, at the moon. "As I can see in the reflection of your beautiful eyes you see the moon. Ah yes my little dear, That is the moon. Follow the moon as you would follow you heart all you life, for that is part of you." I looked at her puzzled as she talked, and she smiled at me. "Little one, stand, like thou little eyes see me do."
About an hour and tons of falls later I stood on the ground firmly. My mother did not help me much, she just watched me carefully.
I looked at her hopefully, asking for praise from her, my tummy growled. She rewarded me with a gesture to her nipple, dripping with warm, smooth, creamy milk that ran a shiver down my spine. I drank till I was so full I could not stand any longer. After I had plopped to the ground I stared at the moon till I drifted off to sleep, with my mother at a close watch.
We returned to our herd that next morning, though we where far, we got their quickly because mother made me walk faster than I ever imagined I could go. She was silent the whole way and I never stopped to sniff or look at things because I feared she would leave me behind. When we got their the whole herd stared. They dare not get near me or my mother for some unknown reason to me, I could just see that they where certainly keeping their distance. I peeped timidly from behind my mothers rump and looked at the other foals as they hopped between the jungle trees.
Days passed of watching them before I stored up the courage to ask my mom if I could go and play with them. When I did she just nodded her head yes without even looking at me. I slowly walked away from her side to the other foals with my head down, praying that they would accept me. I almost died of sadness when they saw me and ran to their mothers side as quick as they could. I just stood their in the empty place that just a second ago the foals where happily playing, I felt frozen and I could not take a step. Nor a breath for that matter. Dead silence. Everyone just stared, even my mother. Eventually my mother beckoned me to come to her side. The place was just that quiet for another hour before the foals started playing again. Not long after, the sun started dropping from the sky, and I yearned to see the moon again, but I was again disappointed when the trees covered the sky. I lay down as a tear trickled down my face. Oh why was I born?......
Weeks passed and I grew, so did the other foals, their were none my size in the herd and for that matter, none at all that were like me. I still never learned why they never liked me, I just stay by my mother waiting for night so that I might catch a glimpse of the moon. I noticed that a wavy, glowing gold colored forelock falls into my face, as with others it is short and straight. Maybe this is one of the reasons they do not like me. My mother talks very little to me and hardly at all to the other mares. They talk to little, everyone does, well, I have to admit that I probably talk the least. To tell you the truth I do not even know what my voice sounds like! Maybe I am a mute. My mother told me a short story about her mute sister. She never told me the end of the story. Every story that has started in my life does has no ending, or a reason for that matter. I asked my mother about this and she said to be patient. I am tired of being patient, I want some answers, and I want them now!
The day came that I was so fed up with being patient that I decided I would do something in my life. I made some goals. 1) make some friends. 2) find out why the other mares do not like my mom. 3) find out why they do not like me. 4) go find the moon, i have not seen it in weeks.
Ok, so first comes first. Making some friends. This is just difficult in itself. I waited for just the right time when all of the foals where out and playing when I came cantering in, Their was a split second when I relized, "what if I try to talk and nothing comes out?" but luckily I got over that soon enough. They all started running when I yelled, "WAIT!" as loud as I could. They froze in dead air. "Don't go away! I don't want to be alone any more!" I said, hearing my voice at last, a smooth, godly like voice that came out at just the right pitch, and sounded young. The foal closest to my age, named Codemion stared at me and said, "So you can talk, we thought you where cursed with silence." I looked at him puzzled, "Why did you think that? Where would I get a curse?" i asked. He replied, "By your father of course!" He moved closer slowly, as did the other foals. "My father? Can you tell me about my father. My mother told me that he is not here but what does he look like? Tell me everything you know!" I said, a pleading look in my eyes. "Well, Ok. Your father is not here any more. Not at all, I have not seen him, none of us foals have seen him, we were not born when all of that mystery happened." All of the foals where coming closer as he talked, "I guess it all started on a spring night, our father, the lead stallion was keeping watch of the herd as they got ready to sleep. I am told that all of the sudden a bright glowing stallion appeared out of nowhere and started fighting with our father Zircon, who whinnied at all of the mares to run, they did, they all ran, Exept your mother, who stood their and stared at the stallion. She watched our father fight with that stallion, he fought till his death. The second our father died that mystery stallion took your mom, or should I say she ran away with him. Our herd never saw her until she came back with you, about six months later. It is said that about three nights after the fight that they saw the stallion, flying, and disappearing at the moon. He was the exact color as the moon with a mane that touched the ground. Your mother must have bred with that stallion and had you. It is quite obviouse actually because of your glowing long mane, that is the color of the moon, and that stallion. That is not all you have in common with him as again I have heard, You look quite similar to him in every way." By now all of the foals where gathered around me. "We where scared of you because we thought you where a goddess yourself." They all nodded. " Our mothers are scared of you and you mother, Well, not just scared, but mad at your mother for not doing anything about Zircon when he was fighting, she just abandoned him their and went off with the other stallion with no second thoughts." He frowned. All of the foals stared at me to see my expression. I nodded my head. Now I have three out of my four goals done. "Thank you, but may I ask you one more question. Where can you find the moon. I have only seen it fully once, and maybe a couple more times just seeing the corner or the shine of it. Do you know where I can find it?" I asked. Codmion answered, " I have never seen the moon. So I am afraid I can not help you on that one, but I wish you luck on finding your moon!" He said, for the mothers where calling their foals to their sides because it was getting dark. I walked back to my mother and nuzzled her, "I love you mom." I said. She smiled back at me, "I love you too Melody~"
"Rise and Shine Melody! It is your birthday!" Codemion Yelled In my ear. I opened my eyes slightly only to see his muzzle in my face. "Aren't birthday girls allowed to sleep in?" I said in a morning-tone. "Not today Melody!" This years foals where hopping around me, no getting out of this one! I got up and cantered away from the foals and yearlings to my mother, "Good morning 2nd birthday girl." She whispered and nuzzled me on the cheek, I nuzzled her back as my friend Grantcia walked up. "Melody I have something to say to you!" She said in an exited matter. I followed her behind a bush. She smiled, "I heard the boys talking about you last night, they where arguing over you.You know what else they did?" she asked. I was a little confused, arguing over me? In what matter? She continued, "They FOUGHT over you Melody!". I was still confused. "Did you see all of the scrapes, cuts and bruises they had?" She asked. "No" I replied blankly, I had no clue what she was talking about. "Omy Gosh Melody, don't you get it? The time is coming soon when they will all go and become bachlors, and start their own herd, and they are all crazy over you, they all want to keep you as their lead mare." She smiled at me excitedly. I was Bzonked. I did not believe my ears. They where never interested in me, or so it seemed.
It was awkward walking out of that bush and seeing all those boys. She was right on the scraped and bruises. As I walked out they all stopped and stared. Was I really that interesting to watch walk out of the bush? To the boys it certainly was because they all just smiled and stared. All of the sudden they where throwing dirty glances at each other. It got out of their quick and started trotting away from the herd to get some water form the pond. I was peacefully drinking when I herd a rumble in the bush behind me. My head came flying up, and I was ready to sprint when I herd a voice. "Melody?" It was Codemion. As he came out form behind the bush I looked at him and realized what a handsom young stallion he had become. He was not the smallest colt in the herd anymore but the largest. His horns where almost done growing and despite the scrapes and cuts he had got from the fighting, his coat was more colorful and shining than ever. "Melody." he repeated, "I need to ask you something." All of the sudden I was shy and nervous. "What?" I asked, turning to him. "Well, I don't quite know how to say this but, well....." he hesitated, and then looked like if he had changed his mind on what to say. He continued more confidently, "It is your birthday, and my mother sais that the moon will be full tonight. As I was wondering one day I saw a place where no trees covered the sky. Could I take you their tonight?"
The thought of being alone with Codemion was quite nerve racking, but of how I missed my moon. Eventully the moon won me over. He trotted away happily.
That night I walk next to Codemion, crickets starting their midnight toon in the background, sun just disappearing. We walked longer than I had thought we would. After a few miles he said, "Here it is!" Indeed it was a small field of just leaves and grass. All of the sudden tears filled my eyes. "Are you ok melody?" He asked looking intro my eyes, "Do you not like it?"
" I love it~" I replied, "You see Codemion. This is where I was born."
The next morning I wake. Morning dew soaked my coat. I was lying down right next to Codemion, Who had drifted off sometime in the night. I started thinking of the night before. Seeing my dear father moon, and then sudden streaks of light where falling from the sky. I had also made up my mind that I would go with no stallion but Codemion, I never wanted to leave his side again. He had had asked me last night to be his lead mare, and my being greatly in love with him said yes.
Eventually my thought where interrupted by the stirring of the body next to me. "Rise and Shine Codemion!" I said mimicking what he had said to me the day before. "But aren't handsome stallions like me allowed to sleep in?" He said jokingly. "Not Today!" I replied. We laughed.
It was not long before we started heading back. Retracing out steps form the day before. We where walking in silence when Codemion said, " We had a fight over you, us stallions." , He kept on looking ahead. "I know." Is all I could say. "I won the fight."he said. "How did you manage to do that?" I asked him jokingly. He started joking back, "Oh it was an easy task my dear Melody. Swipe here and swipe their. By the end if that fight they where all bowing down to me!" We laughed. Silence fell again.
I almost fainted when we got back home and the herd was gone. "Whatever happened?" I said panicking. "Codemion where are they? Oh where have they gone?" I panicked almost crying. He looked concerned as he whinnied loud and clear, and waited for and answer. It never came. All of the sudden a low voice came from behind us. Codemion put his head down ready to use his horns. Hatchek, one of the other herds colts, stood behind us. "They left this morning, and left all of us bachlors here along with some of the young mares, including your friend Grantcia." he said turning to me. "Why did they leave us here? I did not even say goodbye to my mother!" I said almost in tears. Hatchek replied, "My dear, Your mother told me to tell that this was the best way, and for you to not look for her. She said that you have Codemion now and that she will always be in your heart. Live on with your life." he stared intensely into my eyes. I turned away, "Thank you Hatchek." I said sniffing, I had to go to this place. Codemion nodded his head in gratitude and wished him luck. "Let us go." he told me."
*cricket noises* Tonight, laying next to Codemions warm body, I think about my past life, and my future. For I have realized...
