name:: His name is Cobalt, but he typically goes by his nickname, Cole.
meaning:: He doesn't usually think of his name to have any meaning at all, for he was named off of the color of his coat. However, there is a bit more too it then meets the eye.
reason:: He didn't just receive because of his coloration, he was also named after the element. You see, the scientists that helped create the species were also studying chemical elements at the time. Out of name ideas, they began to address the creatures as whatever they first thought of. The scientist that named him was reminded of the element, cobalt, upon seeing his colors. Thus that became his permanent name.
gender:: He is a male.
what is he/she based on:: In my opinion, he his based off of Vincent Van Gogh's oh so famous painting, Starry Night. When you take a look at the picture and back at his design you can see the resemblance in color and a bit of the pattern.
