Irith Name:Thanelos
Where does it live:This Irith Dragon lies deep in the Arabian Desert, where he can easily hide himself and also find the food he requires. Generally he will go out at night, since his mane makes him too hot in the day, but keeps him comfortably warm at night. He is not entirely adapted to desert life, but has managed to make it suit him just fine.
Story/Art/Both: Now, perhaps you are wondering why this particular Irith has chosen to lie in the desert instead of the forests, as most of the rest of his kind lives? Well, it started when he was a young hatchling. He began to attempt to hunt, and the coloration of his skin was making it difficult. His bright colors were spotted easily by all his prey. Despite this, he did manage to become moderate at stalking in shadows and in the undergrowth. He lived like this until he had grown his mane, but by that time he was frustrated with how much effort it took him to grab even a small snack. At one point he had wandered along by the side of a river that passed through the forest, following it for hours before he reached the border of the trees. Pausing in awe, he stared at the beautiful moorland before him.
Small, colorful flowers grew sporadically throughout the grass, waving languidly in the soft breeze. He was amazed by the elegance of the scene before him, staring at the miles and miles of grassland. At that moment he knew he couldn't stay in that forest, not even for one more moment. Without a backward glance, he plunged into the billowing fronds, relishing in the feeling of the brush running across his skin, and the dirt flying beneath his feet. He dashed forward, closing all six of his eyes as he raced along, tongue lolling.
The Irith went through many different biomes, but only one really struck him as a place he might settle. Once, he had wandered, dusty and exhausted, onto a sandy stretch of land that blaed with heat. Panting, he had crawled into the small area of shade beneath a tree. He stayed there until the sun began to sink in the horizon, sending orange, pink, and lavender shooting across the sky. Slightly baffled, Thanelos watched as the blinding colors slowly sank into darkness, and he knew at that moment that he wanted to see that beauty again and again.
