History:
Swift was born at a dude ranch in Texas, no one knows who her father was but they are guessing it was a mustang. Her mom was a beautiful Chestnut Paint, one of the best mares their! She had a calm and loving personality. When they found out she was In foal they put her aside, letting the owners daughter take care of her. When swift was born everyone was in awe, some people said she was the most beautiful filly in the state of Texas.
Years went by and she was trained fully and well. She would have been an amazing dude ranch horse but her attitude was a problem. Everyone loved her and her training was completed well but her biggest problem was the visiters riding her. She would freak whenever someone she did not know got on her back. They could not keep a horse on the ranch that could not even be ridden out on the trails. They trained her and trained her, and pretty soon they decided that she was good enough to go out on the trails. The first time she went out one of the stable boys rode her, she was amazing. But as you can imagine that was only a stable boy, that she saw every day, and when they put a dude on her back, she took off. The second time she reared right when they where getting on the trail, that was it!! She took a long break and the owner finally dicided that they could not keep a horse like her on the ranch. The doughter of the owner begged to give her one more chance, and he did, but he told her that if Swift played any more of her tricks, she would have to go to another good home. The next day they decided to put a lady on her, she said that she had riding experience and had been riding for two years, but when she bolted as the poor lady was mounting and broke her arm in two places, and well, that was it for poor Swift.
The daughter begged that she find swift a home herself, and the owner said yes.
As it has been, I was taking a trip over their to look at some horses that needed homes badly. Especially a trail horse that I could train for trail comps. Well and behold I decided to take a ride at a dude ranch not to far from where I was staying. I was driving in as I saw a beautiful roan pant with some of the most unique markings. My heart was set on meeting that pretty horse and maybe getting some pictures of her. I pulled up into the parking lot and walked over to the pasture that the horse was in, being surprised with a girl leaning on the fence watching the horse. I went up and asked if it was hers, "partly" she said, "but she is being sold, we can not use her on the ranch." and she told me the story. My heart lifted with every word and before I knew it I was making an offer to the owner. Surprisingly the little girl seemed happy with finding her horse a home, but maybe she knew that it was going to be in such good hands.
And so that day, I drove home with a smile on my face, Swift.... what a horse.
