Short Story:
The rains pounded down as the last rider entered the ring with a new green broke horse. Lots of people stood under umbrellas, awnings, and draped themselves in ponchos just to see this young filly preform. An experienced rider, who had 20 years of riding under her belt, still was nervous for her life. On a green broke horse, In a new Arena, In the middle of a storm. Taking a deep breath as she halted at the start of the jumping course, and then the rider offered a soft to clicks to the mare. The mare stood in fear of taking a single step forward. The rider kicked the mare, and felt her lurch forward towards the first jump. A simple two bar training set up.
Now From horses POV
My nerves are on end as I feel her heels dig into my sides. I lurched forward a somewhat fast canter, the rain stings my eyes as I come up the first jump. I just know am going to slip and fall in the sticky gooey mud below, but I find myself soaring over the jump with a ease. I pick a up a bit more sped though the course. We are coming towards the end, I know becuase my rider has directed me towards the final jump. A high triple bar. I ignore her commands to slow as I get closer to finish. All I think about is get this over with, and soon her commands become desperate plee for my to slow my ever increasing sped, am almost at a full gallop. I hit my full gallop just before I make my leap over the jump. I think am soaring, but I'm falling, falling backwards. About to crush my rider, and I quickly twist my body to make sure she is out of harms way. The rain comes pouring down even harder as I get up off the ground my coat sticky, and stained with the mud. My rider is laying their on her back, and she sits up and looks at me with wide eyes. She knows what I did. I toss my head, and she whispers my name softly into the wind as the people rush towards here.
"Let the rain fall forever.."
