JBD #372 - winner

Postby foreign-potato » Mon Feb 04, 2013 10:06 am

What is a Jellybean Dragon?

A Jellybean Dragon is a fluffy, friendly dragon that hatches from a jellybean-like egg. Their diet consists of fruits and insects, but they also love sweets and desserts. Their fur is soft and long, usually brightly colored, neat, and shiny. Jellybean Dragons are mostly gentle and happy, and love attention. Most are Great Dane-sized when they are fully grown, but some of them can grow as big as a cow. All Jellybean Dragons have pouches on their bellies, which they use to carry around food or younger JBDs.

Weeee, another bean! <3 There were a ton of requests for big-cat-themed beans, so here is my first one, the King Cheetah! Since cheetahs originate from Africa, of course he has to have African themed items! He's cute. <3

Naturally, he should have an African based character, too! To try out for him, fill out the form. <3

Name:
Amaguime Dolu; but nicknamed Dolu.
this is the name of the real life human diviner in bongo.

Which African tribe did he come from?:
dolu comes from the dogon tribe in the village of bongo. this tribe is known for their geometric masks and cliff landscape. on the land, the dogon tribe looks like they live life in a barren land, showing few crops and dry grasses. once atop the cliffs, the soil is rich with nutrients and life. dolu finds this a great quality, as it shows visitors that if they are to look further, they will find a healthy and thriving tribe society. on the cliffs, many crops are grown and pigeon droppings are collected, as well as ancient west african artifacts. the droppings make for a great fertilizer, which is used to create crops of onions and other root plants.

What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
dolu is a diviner. when it is nearing night time, dolu perform rituals in the sand by himself. he draws and writes in the sand, asking questions from the tribe members for a sacred fox to reply to. as the morning arrives, you can find him interpreting fox and animal tracks which have crossed his messages and drawings. he channels his energy and spirit into the tracks of the sacred fox and others, creating an answer for his tribe members to listen to. dolu also climbs the cliffs of bongo to search for ancient artifacts to sell at the market. at the tops of the cliffs, dolu feels at peace with the land, and writes just his own personal art and messages in the sand for the sacred fox to answer. it is said that dolu is a lonely sort, but he enjoys partaking in the social occasions of his tribe, which includes spiritual dancing and mask wearing.

Which African tribe did he come from?:
The Zulu tribe, known for its crafts such as carvings and baskets but mostly known for their brightly beaded necklaces. They aren't the strongest people of the savannah much relating to the cheetah fast but yet lacking the ability to over come with strength.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
Beadwork tends to be his daily hobby from the original tradition the Zulu tribe followed. Each bead ment a expression being mute he used this as a way to communicate with others though most don't know what he is saying. He mostly does it just for fun and favors the more brighter colors such as yellow, blue, green and red.

Name: Diallo- Meaning 'Bold' in African orgin
Which African tribe did he come from?:The Zulu tribe in South Africa. The Zulu tribe are thought to be decedents of the first civilizations in Africa. Diallo's beliefs are similar to those of the Zulu tribe. It's very common for modern day people to still practice early traditions of which includes parsing all life, along with beading and basket weaving.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?: Diallo always practices bead work, and sculpting like his early ancestors. He does this because they're not particularly perishable, or forgettable. Diallo's beading works & sculptures can be spread and shared with others unlike other traditions like spiritual journeys which do not leave a trace. Plus it doubles as a stress reliever when he's feeling glum.

Means 'King/Chief'
Which African tribe did he come from?:
Chewa - the Phiri clan in particular. It is associated with kings and aristocracy, and being based on a King Cheetah this guy should be a little kingly, don't you think?
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
Kgosi loves to make masks for his clan. They're used in tribal dances, and he adores sitting around the fire and observing his clanmates dancing all night long with the masks he's made.

I love this guy, but I think there's others who would love him more. Good luck! <3

Which African tribe did he come from?:
A Maasai tribe ^^ I picked this because his markings are that of a King Cheeta, and even though not all Maasai can run very fast, they can walk from sun up, to sun down ^^
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
He walks everyday, for at least 6 hours, to keep his body in shape ^^ He also walks EVERYWHERE he goes, like a Maasai :'D

Malik {African for 'king'}
Which African tribe did he come from?:
The Zulu Tribe
This tribe is well known for their brightly colored beads, and that works as this bean has a string of colorful beads. The tribe is also known for their baskets and small carvings, which I can certainly picture being this bean's favorite hobby.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
Aside from occasionally muttering something in the Zulu language, Malik enjoys performing the traditional Zulu dances, particularly the well-known Idlamu dance. This is his favorite as it shows the true colors of the Zulu culture. He does the dance every week or so by dressing himself as a Zulu warrior and dancing about a campfire, acting out a battle scene as he does, just as the Zulu people would.
