She pawed the soft ground

She spread her legs out and took off
Stretching to full speed
Ears held back as she galloped away
Always wanting to stay this way

She stopped in her tracks
And drank from the lake
A gun shot erupted
From the the cooling forest

Men's voices calling out
"Look, there's a mare with horns"
"she'll make us a fortune"
The flaxen mare lifted her head

and took off
she ran and ran
far away
to the moggy lake
of her new home.

Day by day she looked over the swamp
Dreaming about the good old days
Of living by the deep blue lake..

The smoke curls upon her wake,
As she run to the one whom she loves.

She dreams of the day full of fun,
Her lover waiting for he one he calls his own.
Her excitement she could never fake,
As he hears the growing sound of her heavy hooves.

Upon her arrival, she is weary from her run,
He embraces her as she reaches their home.
He tells her to make haste,
As he leads her to their coop.

She rests her head in anticipation of a day if fun,
He closes his eyes as he waits for day to come.
They sleep deeply in night's face,
A smile on his face as he holds her close.
