Rowtag - Native American Algonquin name meaning "fire."
Keme - Native American Algonquin name meaning "secret."
Lootah - Native American Sioux name meaning "red." ▪ Short Story (400 words max or disqualified):Rowtag had only known sorrow in his life, He had never remembered that of a mother of father figure. This upsetted him, for from the early age he had raised himself. Certainly he had been just fortunate to be of an age where he could care for himself. Why he did not remember his parents he did not know. He took out his anger on the ones he felt where much more fortunate then himself, raging and attacking any he felt deserved to be treated unfairly. After all he was not taught better, this was what he knew, he knew or at least thought it was his duty to cause havoc and pain/sorrow in other’s lives.
Rowtag was not a good youth, nobody wanted to be a friend, so again he only knew loneliness and this only angered him more. This path of anger he took for many years, he wanted his parents to find out the way they had made him feel by watching others feel that same way. This was not a good thing he did.
It was a few years after he had been abandoned that he had separated mother and daughter away from one another. Total strangers to he, ones that had done nothing but breath and live. Yet he ruined the mother's life, he chased her away, while her young cub of only the age when he had been abandoned was left alone. He spoke to the cub, told the cub to leave, that mother no longer wanted anything to do with her. She was sad, she did what he said and left.
Not many days passed when his life changed directions, It had rained for many days. The nearby river had swelled, sinking unstable trees and burying dens. He had been nearby to drink when the sudden screeching of someone in need started to float by as he was turned. He turned to see the very same cub floating fast away. He realized the cubs mother was there, struggling against the current. He dived in grabbing hold of the cub, suddenly they crashed into rocks, everything went black.
It was the following morning that he woke up, hurting but well upon a rocky shore. The cub was there scared, but her mother was not. This was the first time he felt sorrow for another. He took it his duty to raise her.
