Oh my goodness, I have been waiting for a mare with a golden-red, warm coat.
Owner: maluruloki
Equid Name: Meinaura ("mine-ar-ah"), Welsh, "slender golden one"
Equid Age: 4 years
IN SHORT, give her a background story: (( This a story that I wrote a while back for another competition - the dun WME with white legs - but didn't win. I figure that it fit her personality, so I would re-use it. ))
I had told my brothers many times not to bother the spirit horse that lived in the foothills of the mountains, but they were dead-set on not only catching it, but riding it as well. Spirit horses can't be ridden, I explained to them, and you won't be catching it and impressing Miss Janie anytime soon. The twins, being themselves, scoffed and still left that evening to do their best. I knew better and followed after them; I was worried not only for them, but for the Equid. Meinaura, as I called her, was a devilishly fun sort of creature, prone to mostly-harmless pranks on those who bothered her. I was on good terms for the small basket of brambleberries that I brought her once a week. She would spritely prance out from her grove and greet me with her customary whicker, nibble my bangs, and take off with my basket only after pushing me on my behind. Adult, she was, but mature? Decidedly not.
I found my brothers hiding behind a large pile of boulders; their lantern, though turned low, gave them away in the gloomy twilight.
"Oh, it's just you," Travis mumbled after gasping.
"You shouldn't sneak up on us like that!" Tyler reprimanded me with a scowl.
"I didn't. Have you seem her yet?" I asked, knowing full well that Meinaura was watching beyond the light of the lantern.
"Nope, not yet," Tyler said with a sigh. "We have the brambleberries too." I glanced up and all three of us froze as she pranced out into the faint light. "There she is...rope her, Travis!" I shook my head as the twins burst up over the rocks, both twirling lassos. Meinaura seemed to give a squealing laugh and turned back into the grove. I watched the three vanish and sighed, plodding along after them. I knew where I'd find the twins. Slowly, I wandered through the tall trees, lantern in hand, listening to them crash through the brush until they reached a certain point. It was marked by shrieks of surprise and cries for help. I found them waist-deep in a bog, crying like babies and muddied past the point of recognition.
"Save us!" They cried in unison. I pulled them out with their ropes and led them back home. I didn't have to say a word. Their sullen silence was proof that they wouldn't be trying this again. I stopped at the edge of the grove and told them to continue home; I'd follow in a moment. Behind me came the familiar whicker and the rude push to the back. I stumbled forwards and smirked.
"You taught them a lesson, didn't you, Meinaura?" The Equid, with her pale ghost-like face, seemed to grin in the lantern-light and her burgandy eyes twinkled. "Well, on with you. Go find someone else to lead into the bogs." Lipping at my bangs, she turned away and as I was headed back, I thought I heard a faint cry for help. Apparently, she'd done just that.
