sitting on the dock, looking out over the island of kalokairi, levi thought back to the days they'd spent - unexpectedly, but pleasantly - on the island.
they'd enjoyed the quaint little town, and the locals had been incredibly friendly if a little over-curious - all those questions about where they'd come from, really? they'd dusted off their surfboard and ridden some of the incredibly blue waves, and gone snorkelling in the clear water. the fish they'd seen had been amazing, though most had been scared away by the time they'd organised their six limbs into a reasonable kal paddle.
less fun had been the sweaty trek through the forest, where they'd been certain that they had stumbled off the path and would never find their way out again, but mermaid cove was beautiful, despite the difficult natures of the merkalons they had encountered there.
and, of course, the beautiful beaches - the sand cleaner and more golden than anywhere levi had been since the home of the gods, and plenty of shady patches under the trees where they could set up their hammock. they'd spent hours there, snoozing, sunbathing, and watching the drama of the sandcastle competition from a pleasant distance.
"i'll miss the beaches the most," they declared decisively, before breaking into a laugh. "wait, you meant a person?"

Oxford wasn’t ready to leave, he loved it hear. The water glistened in just the right way and the waves rolled onto the shore in perfect rhythm. The palm tree leaves rustled in time with the waves and the tropical birds sang over the top of the chorus. Everything was so perfect and peaceful here. Hours spent on the beach sunbathing, the sun warming his face gently and the music of the island sending him to sleep, had been hours well spent and he wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the kruise if he had the choice. Sometimes, it was better to stay put and enjoy the moment rather than barrel off into the sunset and hop erratically from one place to another.

Most of all, though, Oxford would miss the friends he had made here. He planned begin by saying his goodbyes to people on the kruise who he wouldn’t have got to know better had it not been for the ship failing. Those included Yaakova and Saki, among others. Then, he would say farewell to Shark. Though slightly annoying and demanding, the man had definitely grown on him while he was sending Oxford off on a different escapade each day to find parts. After that, Oxford would move on to wish the Professor well, hinting to him that perhaps he might stay. Oxford was a romantic and was desperate to see them confess their feelings for each other. Even if that didn’t happen while he was on the island, he was thankful to have met the Professor who had opened his eyes to a new perspective and encouraged him to pick up a book again.

From that point he would bid farewell to the Captain, Timothy, Mako, Aukai, Thatcher, Oceania and Shrimp before heading off towards his favourite place on the island, the Mermaid Lagoon. There he would thank them for all the entertainment they had provided him with: the scavenger hunt, pearl hunt and messages in bottles. Oxford had spent whole days chatting to the mermaids and hearing all of their stories. They came across as notoriously unfriendly towards non-merfolk, but once you had taken the time to talk to them you found they were amazing creatures with hundreds of interesting tales to tell.

He had his plan, but he wasn’t ready to say goodbye just yet...

Detroit sniffled slightly, she had gotten quite attached to the kalons on this island and to just leave them with no hope of seeing them ever again, well it hurt. it hurt a lot. She went around going from kalon to kalon asking for ways to reach them, either by mail or by tech.
luckily the island had its own little post office so she could always send mail. She sat on the beach thinking about just how long it would take for mail to reach the island. If anything happened, like a new kalon on the island or a disaster, she wouldn't know until possibly weeks later. she idly ran a hand through her hair and rubbed her horns before gasping, shooting straight up onto her feet.
Why wait when she could visit whenever via the Underworlds transportation system, what would be a 10 hour flight or two to three day boat trip would be a 30 minute ride.
She smiled, walking back to the town to go and sit with Timothy as the sun set once more. She watched content as he sorted through the shells he found in the tide pools and felt at ease once more, after all he was so far one of the best kalons on this little slice of paradise.
