Andrew, Cindy, and Greg spent a long time trying to open this loot chest. Andrew got so angry that he couldn't that he grabbed one of Raffi's axes, and smashed the chest open. It turns out all of the efforts were wasted, since there was nothing in the chest.

[ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʜᴇsᴛ ɪs ᴀ ʟɪᴇ ]

they had come across a small wooden chest in an abandoned town of some sort, now nothing but ruins and a playground for the earth. wiyby had suggested they bust it open, but you felt a much more easier solution was the answer to this problem. wiyby seems convinced after you'd explained what you wanted to try, however eden remained silent, instead just watching the two of you get closer to the chest.

you tried a number of things, and wiyby even brought her axe on it, but the chest wouldnt open, break, or bend no matter what you did. it was invulnerable almost, but you knew better. all chests could be opened, you just had to find the right combination.

you stepped forward to fiddle with the lock again when eden's hand shot out to grab your shoulder, holding you back. "wait." she simply said, then picked up a rock that fit snug into her palm and threw it straight at the center of the chest's lid. immediately, a loud shriek was heard, and the chest got two steps before wiyby brought her axe down on it again, smashing the lid to pieces. when she was sure it was 'gone,' she turned to look at you both in confusion.

"what was that." you ask instead, voice deadpan while you struggle to catch your brain up with what just happened, and more importantly, how eden had known.

"a mimic. clever little things, but that's all. just," she stepped away to bend down and pick up something from where the mimic had sat, and you notice there's a lot more where that came from. valuables, junk, papers and notes--are those bones?--lie in a pile. the mimic must've been very good at its job, because there's a lot of things in that pile.

"should we take it?" wiyby asks, and you catch her eyeing one of the trinkets atop an old-looking journal.

eden looks about ready to say no, however, seems to change her mind at the last second and waves her hand dismissively. "you know what? take whatever you like, all of it if you so desire. maybe you'll find something you like in there too, miss margaret?" she says, and you tentatively inch closer to the pile.

"who do you think all of this belonged to?" you ask your friend, but she's quite occupied with scrounging through the pile of stolen goodies.

"who cares? look at this book maggie--it's ancient! i bet it's got lots of cool stuff in here! here, want it?"

you're so very tempted to say no, maintain your morals that are screaming that taking what isnt yours is wrong, however, once you take the book, you end up taking all of the many journals and books and papers, while wiyby and eden split up the rest, and you intend to read every single one when you get back to the inn.

Artemis

Prompt 10

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

The restless bickering of the two kits known by the familiar names of Ronan and Electra was enough to cause the usually level-headed individual to veer off from the expedition path. The intent of the journey was to find the fire crystal from the lavalands, but Artemis had better ideas. Veering left caused him to stumble upon a surprising decrease in temperature and a rather pleasant view of the entirety of the large expanse of molten rock that was the lavalands. Acknowledging the distant echoing shouts and calls of Ronan and Electra, Artemis fell on deaf ears and continued his rather solitary stroll along the cracked path, which rubbed marginally against the surface of his pawpads. Slightly uncomfortable. As the echoes began to fade behind him, Artemis narrowed his eyes in disbelief. Was that something sparkling in the near distance?

---

Advancing towards the beacon of treasures, Artemis ran forward briskly, kicking away the mound of pumice stones as he climbed his way to the top of the pile. He was drawn to the mysterious treasure chest alike a moth was drawn to light. The chest grew nearer and nearer and Artemis grew ever more hopeful with every fleeting second and every determined pawstep. At the top of the grey heap Artemis remained victorious. Celebrating his minor achievement, he lifted the chest onto his lap and slid down the enormous pile of dainty pumice stones. Now that he had retrieved the chest, how would be open it?

---

After endless efforts and countless collections of a variety of shapes and sizes of minerals and rocks, Artemis felt weak and defeated. His previous hopes were shattered by the impossible task of opening the chest. What was it made of, titanium? Artemis had already come to the assumption that there was something inside the thing, for whenever he kicked it a noise was emitted from the movement of the object inside. Whatever was in there had to be valuable, right? Why else would someone go to all the effort of putting it in a practically bulletproof container? Well, it was certainly Artemis-proof that's for sure. The defeated Kalon sat cross-legged on the baked ground and pressed his forehead against the lid of the treasure chest in frustration. The downward movement and force was enough to spring the lid open and Artemis was taken aback. After all his trial and error, all the chest needed was a simple pushing mechanism? Now he really did feel stupid. At least Ronan and Electra were too far away to mock his embarrassment. Oh wait! No they weren't. Of course they weren't.

"Open it now we've found you," Electra demanded impatiently, glancing over the damaged chest from Artemis' failed opening attempts. Ronan nodded, encouraging for once. Artemis slowly lifted the lid to the container and gasped at its contents. Electra couldn't believe her eyes. Ronan blinked in rapid succession before reaching for the object desperately. "I'll take that," he said, victoriously clutching the hand-held pocket fan in his paw, before pressing the little, cheap, plastic button to turn the rotation on. Much to his disgust, nothing occurred as of his efforts. Electra snatched the handheld fan from his paw and inspected it herself, adjusting the foam propellers with her teeth. Why doesn't it work!?" She asked in frustration, dropping the cheap plastic object to the floor. Artemis sighed and picked up the fan, opening up the back of it. "No batteries," he explained, disgust clearly expressed on his face. "I guess heat like this would've frazzled them beyond use anyway..." Artemis decided, seeing the obvious unimpressed expressions painted on Ronan's and Electra's faces. How bittersweet.

PROMPT 10
Lᴏᴏᴛ ʙᴏx!

Along the path though the lava kindgom, you manage to stumble upon a treasure chest, but it appears to be locked. It would be such a waste to leave treasure behind...
How does your hero manage to open the chest, and what's inside?

Kalons being used;; Fir

The archer stood a long time looking at the chest, wondering what could possibly be inside.
Despite it's withered and rusted appearance, trying to break it open physically so far hadn't worked- and believe her, she had tried. If climbing up a nearby steep slope and throwing it off the far drop hadn't done the job then certainly dropping it in lava would have. Or picking the lock, or bribing the fire chickens to nest on it.
But the chest was swallowed by the burning magma for only a second before it bubbled back to the surface unscathed. And no matter how many times she tried to pick the lock, her tools snapped in half, and don't get her started on the chickens... they were so particular about their nests, and she had made at least a half dozen stops back at Raffi's for supplies. And then they had the audacity to now peck her paws everytime she tried to get the chest back.

And all of that for nothing it seems; as the chest remained just the same as it had when she had stumbled across it almost a whole three hours ago.

Finally having enough, she decided only magic would open up this chest. She rummaged through her bag, feeling for the one she needed. It was small, and she would only need a drop at most...
There.

Plucking it out of her bag, she slowly tilted it over the rusted latch. (Shooing the wildlife out of the way. They begrudgingly moved, but not without more than one resentful cluck in her direction.) The liquid drop sailed down, down, down and as it hit the latch... nothing.
She stood there gaping, lost for words. And then the frustration built a lump in her throat and she signed,
"What?? Do I need to say the magic word? Is 'please' enough for you-" As she signed the word please, there was an audible click, and the chest literally dissolved into dust in front of her. Sifting through the particles, she pulled the only thing that seemed to remain.
A note saying: "Never forget your manners! Everyone needs a reminder sooner or later c:"

The chest then rebuilt, looking slightly more dented for wear, and the note slipped from her hands into it and then snapped close with a thunk. With a blink, the chest disappeared from sight. And with a disappointed groan, fir continued her journey, vowing to never wish something as horrible as that chest on even her worst enemies.

(( I missed yesterday //weeps// the struggles of having seven commissions to complete ))

    Chapter X:
    Lᴏᴏᴛ ʙᴏx!

The children continued down the dark path, lit only by fire, when they stumbled upon a treasure chest plopped down in the middle of the cleared way ahead of them. Minji immediately ran up to the box, attempting to open it, but Sadie pulled her back.
"Minji, stop! It could be a trap." The girl froze, stumbling backwards.
"Oh, I forgot, sorry!" she quickly spat out, looking around for danger. There was nothing in sight, though, so the group cautiously approached the chest once more.

"It's either booby-trapped or someone lost it! It may have fallen off of a cart...should we return it to them? I think it should be fine as long as we don't open it," Sadie informed the children, asking for their opinions.
"Yeah, we should get it back to them! It isn't ours to keep," Iseul added softly, holding his sister close. "They're probably missing it."
"Fine," Minji added, "although if we can't find them I'm going to open it myself. I don't care about the danger."

The children lugged the treasure chest up into their arms. It was too heavy for them to carry without each child helping, so Sadie wrapped it in the spare cloth they had picked up earlier when they had gathered supplies, making a makeshift bag to hold it in over her shoulder. What was inside remained a mystery; the children would not know what it was until they got home safely or found the owner the chest belonged to.

      Prompt 10 [WC : 167]

“Do you think it’s a trap?”

Apollyon and Lacroix exchanged glances. With the way things had been going, and the incident they were still refusing to name, it would be their luck that the chest was trapped. After all, who would leave a chest open, in the middle of nowhere? Certainly, it /was/ the middle of nowhere, but there had been no traps. Nothing to signify there should be something hidden, or that there was something valuable worth hiding.

No words were exchanged, but they were of one mind. Lacroix cautiously extended her arm, pouring an acidic potion on the lock. It sizzled, and then popped off.

Nothing happened. Apollyon took the next step, carefully pulling the lid back. A click sounded as the top moved to hang behind the chest. “Nothing.”

A rumbling sounded, like a very hungry stomach, or very angry rocks. “Sure it's nothing?” Lacroix whispered fervently.

They left behind the trapped chest as they turned to run from a (possibly man made) landslide.

[RPG] Kalon Summer Event // Prompt Ten

"LOOT BOX!"
Featuring Nova and Nolan
---------------------------------------------

The two kalons enter a cave filled with ivy.
"Hey look a chest!" Nolan shouts. "Let's go open it!" "Fine with me!" Nova replies, and so the two kalons proceed to walk towards the chest.

"Heheh! What do you think is inside? Gold? Armor? Or maybe food?!" Nova jumps with excitement. "I don't know, I hope so!" Nova exclaims. "Why don't you open it?" Nolan attempts to pull open the chest with all his might.
"I can't open it!" Nolan cries. "Let me try!" Nova says, and she tries to pull it open as well, only gentler."Urrrg! Why won't it open?" Nolan pouts. "Look here, Nolan. Maybe it needs a key." Nova exclaims. "Why don't we go look for one?" "I'll stay here trying to open it, and you look around in the cave, okay Nova?" Nolan instructs. "Okay!" Nova replies.

About an hour later, Nova comes back empty handed. "Well did you find anything?" Nolan asks. "Nope..." Nova replies. "Guess it's come to this.." Nolan murmurs. ""Huh? It's come to what?" But just as she was asking, Nolan throws the chest against the hard rock wall and the chest smashes open.
"NOLAN!" Nova yells. "What?! How else was I supposed to open the chest?!" Nolan asks in disbelief. "I DON'T KNOW. YOU COULD HAVE PICK LOCKED IT?" Nova still screams. "Well, sorry." Nolan replies, emphasizing the "sorry."

"Hey, Nova.. Look at what was inside." Nolan points to the shining object that exploded from the impact of the throw. "It's.. It's.." Nova stutters. "It's beautiful.." Nolan finishes the sentence for her.

What came out of the chest was a sword that radiated a yellow, almost gold, shiny, shimmering light. The swords' green handle had two fake metal snakes on the top, their eyes glowing a mesmerizing red.

"I CALL WIELDING IT!" Nolan chirps, and so he does. The two kalons walk out of the ivy infested cave happily, waiting for the next part of their adventure.
