❝ From deep in the forest you hear something that sounds like singing. You follow the sound to find a mysterious pool, and someone at the center. Are they malicious or benevolent? What do they want?
How does your hero make it through this encounter? ❞

The party walked towards the voice.
"whoa whoa whoa we shouldn't follow the singing." -Forager
"why not its not like anything will try to hurt us and if it turns out other wise we can just kill them."-Seventy
"But i don't want to kill them. They sound lovely."-Bear
"Sometimes you have no choice."-Seventy
They arrived at a river and stopped in surprise. There was a multicolored kalon there with a fish tail. They were sitting on a rock and smiling at them.
"Oh good you showed up finally.
To continue on your quest you need to retrieve some items for me."-The stranger told them
"Whoa hold on lady how you know what we are doing and what reward?"-Seventy asked
"You may call me captain. Nothing matters except the reward.
This and a reward of gems."
The stranger held up a key from around their neck and wiggled it.
"This key is what you seek for without it you can't proceed to the next crystal."
"What items you need?"-Bear asked
"You ripping us off? How we know we need this key?"-Seventy
"Do you wish to find out you do need this?"-The stranger replied
"I need only a couple things.
Apples,copper gears and milk."
"Your grocery list? Why gears?"-Forager
"I just need these. Hurry please."
A day was spent gathering the requested items and the kalon tossed them the key and gems.
"Thanks now excuse me need to repair my ship."
The stranger swam off and Seventy scowled at their backside.
"Lazy kalons making us work."

For once, I was the one leading the group instead of Dominque. My fur was sticky and matted, and the humidity was not helping it at all. Dominque and Finn trailed behind wearily. I could make out a foggy outline of a lake through the haze and heat, a good sign. It wouldn't hurt to take a small swim to cool of in the heat. Besides, it was on our path to nowhere, anyway.
"I can't believe that we've only covered so little of the forest in this time. What have we done - 10 percent? At this rate, we'll never be able to find the second crystal." Finn complained, his bleak outlook on this quest unchangeable. As we neared the shore Dominque paused, holding back. I shot her a look as I walked forward, her feet unmoving.
"What, can't swim?" I joked, gazing at her eyes. They were filled with fear - real fear. I knew she could swim, and never had any fear of growing or something of the sorts. It didn't make sense.
"Camille.. I think I'll just is this out. The lake feels...dangerous."
I rolled my eyes - Dominque: Always overly apprehensive. I looked over my shoulder to see eve Finn had stopped just short of the water. It was strange - Considering he studied ocean biology. He was the best swimmer by far out of all of us.
"Finn? Don't -Don't tell me you too!" He crouched, gazing at the ripples in the water. He remained wordless, eyes glazed over.
You have got to be kidding me...
Whatever, it doesn't matter. I dived in before they could protest, surprised at the water's cool temperature. I expected to be cold, but not this much. But it was refreshing, so I continued my plunge, and stroked though the deep dark waters. Thick, black, seaweed surrounded me, seemingly growing taller. Some grabbed on to my paws, a chilling slimy feeling. It was strange - The water kept getting coding. My bones were becoming numb, but I swam on, in a daze. I didn't even notice that I had not surfaced for air in minutes. My paws disturbed the water, even though I wasn't trying to swim anymore. The long strands were complete encasing me now, no escape.
And then I saw it.
From above, a grey ghost, with eyes clear as day. Glaring, amber eyes, two slits analyzing me.
I was rising up slowly to it, but something stirred in me. Fear.
No!
I woke up then, my lungs burning for air, and fur iced over. Air! My eyes shot open, for real, and I swam frantically upward, right through the ghost. It's eyes widened, but I lost sight of the thing after I broke the surface. All was calm, so different from the chaos below. I looked down in tremor, remebereing the demon had been below me. But - it was gone. The water was complete clear, free of seaweed. As I finally caught my breath from the endless gasping, I dipped my face back into the water. The water was warm, melting some of the icicles on my fur.

I left the lake, and didn't look back. Dominque and Finn didn't ask anything about it. I asked them how they kew the lake was cursed, but received a strange look, from them. They said they didn't remember anything about some old foggy lake.

Janus & Erebus
The dark forest seemed to stretch on forever, black consuming the foliage farther off in such a way it resembled a tunnel. "Hey Erebus, you doing okay?" At the sudden voice the Rogue turned to faced Janus, failing to hide his nervous expression "not really... this place gives me the creeps. The sooner we find the crystal the better." Using his mates sword Erebus continued cutting a path for awhile until his arms grew heavy with exhaustion. With a smile Janus retrieved his sword, giving his love a break and allowing their journey to continue.

They walked for some time until the forest ahead opened up, revealing a large and beautiful body of water where light danced off its surface. "This looks like a good place to stop for today." Hands on his hips Janus looked excited before patting his companions shoulder "I'll go find some food while you set up camp. Then we can swim~" Cheeks red Erebus went ahead and set up his cape, making a tent-like structure and a makeshift fire with some nearby dry wood.

As he waited for his mate to return Erebus fiddled with his dagger, throwing it at random spots in the ground before retreaving it. As he did this ripples appeared in the water, a splash then.. singing. Pausing immediately he turned and faced the water, eyes widening at the sight he quickly went to cover his ears but it was much too late. The creature had him under her spell with no hope of escape. Slowly his body began moving without permission, dragging him closer and closer to the now dark depths of his tomb. As the water surrounded him its icy temperature froze his blood with fear, this was it.... 'I'm sorry Janus..'

Getting attacked by a four foot rabbit was not part of the plan but at least they wouldn't need food for awhile. Dragging his catch behind him Janus made him way back to camp. Just in time to see someone, no, something pull Erebus under the surface of the water. Staring in shock Janus felt something snap and his world turned black as Chaos took over. Moving quickly the Berserker followed after the temptress of death, grabbing her arm before she could drag his mate any deeper. Letting him go the creature turned on her attacker with a haunting screech, mouth wider than anything natural she went for his throat with thousands of needle teeth. Using his sword to block her he laughed darkly, gripping her arm tighter as the blade finished the fish beasts life.
Dropping the dead weight Chaos turned and faced Erebus, there he stood, trembling in fear of both his near death and the scene that just took place. Realizing that he probably wasn't who Erebus needed at the moment Chaos allowed Janus control once again.

As his world came back he took in the scean around him, understanding what must have happened. "Janus?" Looking up he could have sworn relief flashing within his mates eyes "Can we move out of the water now..?"
Blood soaking into his already wet undershirt Janus nodded, he didn't want to stay in it any longer then needed.

That night Erebus clung to his mate, night terrors being the least of his problems at the moment. After leaving the area they had found another place to make camp, neither wanted to stay at the former. Resent events bothered him more than normal, sure he knew about the other side of Janus but it was rare for him to show himself with actions. Usually he would say a few words in a conversation or pipe up with a joke at random times but that was the first time he had ever seen Chaos kill something.. and the scariest part was.

He looked like he enjoyed it immensely.

Fᴏʟʟᴏᴡ ᴛʜᴀᴛ sᴏᴜɴᴅ!

The forest had been dark with night for some time now as the three settled down in their camp. For the most part, it was a simple set up with three blankets in a circle around the burn pit they decided not to use. Too many trees and dried, dead wood to risk it. Allariia cast a witch light above the pit, dimly lighting the area as they ate and talked about events.
The strangeness of the potion shop, the books that had been around the forest and their overall goal to reach the center and where the next Crystal might be. The conversation didn't lead anywhere specific, so the three lay down to rest for the night as the witch light burns out. Ixion was the first to sit up, flicking his ears around to listen. The singing got louder, waking Allariia and then finally Ico who was the least aware.
Grouping together, they follow the sound of song it seemed. Soft, unrecognizable words that echoed in the darkness. They came to a small pond of fireflies that dances around the tall grass near the edge. The three remain hidden, looking around as the song certainly came from this clearing. There was a larger shape in the center of the pool, perched on a rock and singing. Ico leaned forward a little, gasping quietly at the site.
"They aren't fireflies." He whispers, keeping low. "They're dwarf fairies, I've seen then over the water in my own kingdom. They sing when one of their own is lost hoping it'll find its way back." The speckled kalon explains, watching the few of them change color before turning yellow once again. They didn't belong there, if they scared the fairy folk away it was highly likely their lost companion would be lost forever.
The figure in the center had to the queen of this group, making out her silver hair and transparent wings as some fairies passed close to her; lighting up the dark figure for only a moment. Fairy queens were tricky, known to either steal or hypnotize passing kalons into doing their bidding. It was uncommon to hear of, but some did turn up dead after they exhausted their use in the ranks. Knowing the stories, all three knew it would be wise to avoid the area until morning.
"Let's take leave then, be sure to watch your paws." Allariia says at last, breaking the silence to return to camp. It was encouraging to think there was water nearby, they'd have to return in the morning to better examine the area without disturbing anyone or getting caught. Dwarf fairies were nocturnal and didn't stay in one place for long, they could collect dust and refill on water.

How does your hero make it through this encounter?

Pix awoke with a start, his ears swiveling around. There was a faint sound coming from further within the forest that sounded like singing. He paused for a second, contemplating whether to investigate or not, before shaking his fur off and staggering to his paws. He held his staff in front of him, the bluish glow illuminating the path and casting long shadows behind him. The sound got clearer the further he went in. Pix began to feel light headed yet continued to push on. He noticed that the forest began to get light, and eventually he not longer needed his staff for a blue light was shining softly from up ahead. There was a cliff face up ahead, with a small opening at the bottom where the light seemed to be the strongest. Pix lowered himself onto his belly and crawled through the entrance. As he exited the tunnel, he found himself in a grotto and his breath caught in his chest. The water was phosphorescent, sending bright blue ripples across the surface as drops of water fell into it from overhead. At the center of the pool was a beautiful Kalon with gleaming scales and fins. The kalon had a small harp and was singing beautifully. They looked up, noticing Pix at the edge of the pool.
"Oh, hello. I'm the gaurdian spirit of this cave. The water has healing properties so many travelers tend to pass through here. You are more then welcome to use it as well." They said, before returning to their song.
Pix eagerly approached the water's edge, taking a drink and splashing it onto his hot face. The water truly did have healing properties as Pix felt his strength return to him.

Featuring ;; Gibson

Gibson had been running for what seemed like days to escape the dark forces that took him away from his home. He had no idea where he was or where he was going. Each paw step he took led to the aches he’d feel in his paw pads later. His clothes were torn from head to toe and there were a few cuts here and there, but there was no time for him to focus on it, he needed to get as far as possible from the darkness.
As he ran through the forest he hardly kept track of the things around him. There was only one time in which he looked back, but he ended up tripping over a fallen log. There was a cracking noise that could be heard from his ankle as he tumbled down the path. As slowly came to a stop he took in a deep breath and began to sob. Multiple thoughts flooded his mind, and he couldn’t choose a single one to focus on. Where was he? Why exactly was he taken away from his loved ones? These were questions he wasn’t sure he could answer on his own, but who would listen to a mangy little kid.
The young kit reached for his ankle only to wince in pain as a response. He pulled his knees in the best way he could to bring himself some form of comfort. Tears fell from his cheeks, one by one seeping into the dirt below him. He could’ve sat there for hours weeping but a light voice caused him to stop. “It’s alright little one, come this way.” Gibson jumped and quickly looked around. “W-Who’s there?!” he called frantically getting to his feet. “All shall be revealed soon child…please, come forward...”
Gibson tilted his head to the side questioning where exactly he was supposed to go. From the corner of his eye he noticed a clearing with a hidden pond in the center. Within the waters was a rather dimly lit figure. Gibson felt more at peace as he limped towards the individual. “It’s alright…” said the mysterious being “There’s no need to fear. I can heal you. Place your feet in the water.” Gibson did as he was told and he tried to get a better look of the one offering to help him. “Who are you?” Gibson asked. The being looked up and gave him a closed eyed smile. “All shall be revealed in time young Gibson, all shall be revealed in time...”

Featuring Eden and Calypso

"Eek!" Calypso cried, as a spider landed on her paw. "I hate these things" she growled, squishing it. How disguising.

Eden was distracted, looking far into the distance at things unknown. The world was tranquil and peaceful. A gentle breeze stirred the trees, and ruffled Calypso's fur. It was chilly, but not too cold, and judging by the position of the sun, she guessed it was about six in the morning.

The two travelers had just woken up, though today it was earlier than usual. Calypso usually was an early riser, but this adventure was taking its toll on her. Late nights followed by days of travel were messing up her sleep schedule. Today she had woken up a bit tired, but the encounter with the spider had fixed that, and now adrenaline rushed through her veins. There was something about the morning that was just perfect. Something unlike anything else.

At first the kalon though she was hearing things, but there it was again; an angelic call. Somebody out there was singing. Calypso was confused; surely they knew better than to do that here? She had only been there a day, yet was well aware of the safety that silence brought. Monsters seemed to have adapted to the darkness in the forest by developing incredible hearing, as sometimes even the slightest noise would bring them racing towards the kalons.

Along with the confused dwelled curiosity. Who was it singing? Who could it be who was fearless of the monsters, or had somehow made it this far into the forest without encountering one? "Hey, Eden," she whispered, "Do you hear that?"

"Yes. I think we both know what to do by now, hm?"

"Yeah. Lets go." The two tracked over, following the voice, but quickly realized that they were not alone in the journey. From out of the trees came a monster, one who, like them, was wanting to see what lay at the epicenter of that song.

"Already?!"

"Suppose so, now lets go!" They sprinted off. Hopefully whoever it was singing could help them out somehow. Calypso somehow had been chased by so many monsters now, that she was barely even scared anymore. She knew how to escape them; how to zip and dive through the trees and escape unharmed.

When she looked up however, there was a difference up ahead. Something Calypso had not thought of was the possibility of forest clearings. Somewhere where there were no trees to duck around or brush to hide in. Out in the open, the kalon was as good as dead.

"There's a river clearing up ahead! What do we do?" Eden looked panicked.

"Just-I don't know! Keep going!"

They ran, right into the clearing, where a river poured through the center. That was odd, though, for Calypso was sure that she had been here before and the terrain was different. They raced into the center, undamaged, but when the great beast behind them hit the open area, it let out a screech, and vanished into a blast of green smoke.

Calypso jumped back, "woah..."

"Who are you, travelers?" asked a gentle and soft voice.

Calypso whipped around. She had entirely forgotten about the singer, and what she was greeted with was an unusual sight. Sitting in the center of the river, oh a highly perched rock, sat a human-like creature...well, other than a few differences. His skin was green, and he had branch-like limbs. "Who are you?" she asked, shocked.

"Very well, I do understand your wariness. I do not have a name like that of you kalons, however I do have a number, in which I am number twenty two."

"Woah!" Suddenly Eden's attention had been caught. "Are you a nymph?!"

"N-no...I'm a speratus...basically the male versions of a nymph."

"Well, twenty two, I am Calypso." she smiled at this creature. There was something about him that drew her in, and by Eden's interest as well, she guessed it was magic. Eden was never interested, and she was most certainly never in reality rather than in her head.

"It's Eden," said Eden, staring right into twenty two's eyes. She broke contact, and glanced at Calypso. Without words the same thought passed through their minds. be on alert

A spider slowly trickled down its web right above Calypso's head. She scowled, and began to swat at it, when twenty two yelled, "No!" he stood up, and walked over to the bug, taking it on a single finger. He smiled at the bug, and then bent over and put it on a blade of grass. "Don't hurt the wildlife. It didn't do anything to you."

"What about the monster? You somehow-removed it?"

"The monsters do not wish to simply survive like the rest of us. They want to harm this world and bring chaos while they do it. I do not wish for them to hurt us any longer, so it is my goal to destroy as many as possibly." he glanced down, and examined the grass.

"So you protect the forest?"

He smiled. "I wouldn't say that...but I do like to help out. You two should run along, now."

The two kalons exchanged a look. "Thank you." they whispered to the speratus, in unison. Then, slowly the two walked away. Off to another adventure in this great forest. There were still so many things they would never know, and things they would probably never know. The moment they discovered a secret, another one seemed to pop up from nowhere.

As they walked away, a small, black spider crawled on Calypso's foot. But this time, she simply brushed it off into the grass.
