Prompt 13 - Jax
xxxYou give a piece of yourself to everyone you care about. When one of them dies, the piece of yourself that you gave them does too. When this happens, you can never be whole again. Jax learned about this the hard way a long time.
xxxHe had been no more than thirteen years old at the time when his dad got into a car accident. He died on site of the crash. When Jax heard from his father about what had happen a slew of emotions rapidly washed over him. The first of which was anger.
xxxAll Jax could see was red. He rushed into his bedroom, violently flinging the door open, not caring about what he knocked over or broke. He went over to the item he associated most with his dad, his guitar, and smashed. By the time he was done bring his guitar repeatedly down into the ground, the body of it was virtually irreparable and most of the strings had snapped.
xxxAfter anger came sadness and regret. Sadness for the death of his dad, and regret for blindly destroying his guitar. Jax crumbled into a sobbing mess, his cries watching his body and sounding so loud that the entire block must have heard them. His father had tried to comfort him the best that he could, but it was no use.
xxxAfter sadness cam denial. Jax didn't want to accept the fact that his Pop was actually gone. Whenever anyone brought the subject up he'd avoid furthering the conversation, and if that didn't work, he distanced himself all together. Jax's father tried to help him, he really did, but there wasn't much he could do. He needed time to grieve, and only time would provide that.
xxxJax didn't want to be around anyone, so he locked himself away in his room. In the time he was alone, he threw himself into his passion, music. Obviously, he couldn't play guitar on his thoroughly smashed ones, so he used the one his dad left behind. Day in and day out he'd practice. Playing old songs he knew by heart, and learning new ones he'd been wanting to try out. Along the way he even picked up electric guitar. The process of learning how to play an electric compared to an acoustic was different, but he picked it up easily all the same.
xxxFast forward to where he is now. A struggling university student with the silly dream of making it in a band. Jax knows it's silly, of course he does, but that doesn't change the fact that it was the one thing he put his ambition into. He knows he'll probably fail, but it can't hurt to try. He turned the emotions he felt due to grief into a creative outlet, and he'll be damned if he wastes his passion when it's focused on something he cares so much about.
