She felt the rustle of feathers. She gently opened her eyes, and in turning her head, a brilliant white peacock face peered back at her. She smiled gently. "Well now Chiro, is your wing feeling better?" She clambered out of her stiff bed, and meandered over to the open door. "Ah, so this is how you got in," she sleepily muttered. She slowly padded into the morning light. Enormous mountains rose around her, and fields covered the ground for miles. But this was a usual sight for her. Her main focus was on her peacock rescue and care center. She cared not only for peacocks, but peahens and peachicks as well. Chiro was her first patient, and his wing was broken in such a way that he could never be wild (not that he would survive easily, with his luxurious white plumage.) She loved caring for these birds. It mattered more to her than anything else. She happily smiled, looking at her birds strutting around, showing off at the peahens. When they fully healed, she would try to find new homes for them, where people actually knew what they were doing.
After checking on the birds and making sure they were all well fed, she headed to her computer to write. She liked writing, but not as much as caring for her peafowl, of course. She mainly wrote books about peafowl, and she updated a blog on how her rescues were doing. She tried to spread awareness on the internet, and find new owners for her birds. She would never find Chiro a new home though, as they had too close a bond to ever be broken.
She sat back in her chair, relaxing, and gently thinking aloud. "How could anyone ever find a better hobby than mine?"
