xx“What are you doing in my swamp?” a quiet, unsure voice asked. He whipped around, heart beating a mile per hour. Staring back at him were two big purple and pink eyes, and face obscured by tall grass like-plants.
xx“C-come out and show yourself!” he nearly screeched, stumbling away from whatever that was. The camera around his neck felt choking. He really shouldn't have gone out into the swamp, but he had to prove that the swamp beast did exist. He really hoped he would get a good photo before he died, then someone could find his camera and he would be proven right.
xxThe monster blinked at him, then slowly crept out of the swamp brush silently. He noted two large, green ears pulled back against its head, and black hair that fell across its face. Its green face peered at him curiously, head tilted slightly as it watched him in fascination. He shifted on his feet, causing it to violently twitch as it pressed up against the foliage, eyes wide and nervous, ears pressed deep into its hair.
xxNow that he had a good look, it didn't look like a swamp monster. It just looked like a...strange kalon. Maybe it wasn't the swamp beast after all. He felt intense relief with a hint of disappointment. He really wanted to prove that cryptids did exist, or at least this one did.
xx"Uh hi?" he asked. They seemed to calm slightly, but still looked ready to bolt. He let his body relax "I'm not gonna hurt you, okay?"
The strange kalons ears lifted up a little from their hair, and nose scrunched in confusion.
"Who are you?" they asked hesitantly, in a small voice.
"I'm Jake. You?" He sat down in the damp grass. The others kalon seemed to appraise him for a moment before responding.
"Fain" The kalon responded, shoulders slowly lowering. They sat down as well, Jake flinching at the squelching sound the muddy, wet ground made as they sat on it. They didn't seem to care, and looked at him expectantly, before looking at the ground.
"So, uh, this is your swamp?" Jake questioned with a small smile

xxTurned out, after some careful questioning, that Fain lived in the swamp. She had always lived there, alone, and was shocked when he showed up. He didn't understand how she could live in such a mucky places, but she seemed perfectly content there. She was timid and shy, and wasn't sure how to interact with other kalon.
xxHe began to visit her. She warmed up to him slowly, and when she offered to show him around the swamp, he was excited. She knew every trick to avoiding the alligators, and catching frogs. He offered to show her his home, outside the swamp, but she refused. She had never left the swamp, and didn't seem to want to. So he settled for visiting her whenever he could.
