What is a special talent that your kalon has, and how did they learn it?

Pip let out the series of piercing whistles as she stood on the grassy hilltop, eyes squinting against the sun as she searches the cloudless winter sky. Her fur ruffled behind her and she felt chilled to the bone as the wind raged around her, Pip wondered if she should try and find somewhere more sheltered to wait, but no she needed to see the sky. She whistled again, even as the wind ripped the sound away as soon as it could be heard.

Then Pip heard the familiar piercing cry as a dark shape flitted through the sky towards her, unbothered by the wind, hen all of sudden the shape shrunk, wings pulled in close as it dove towards her. Her hawk - Shiba, hurtled towards her, letting out a serious of cheerful chirps then, just before Shiba flew into her she opened her magnifsctent wings, breaking hard before landing before Pip. Shiba ruffled her feather happily, shining a brilliant copper in the sunned as Pip lowered her head Shiba nipped her ear gently in greeting.

Pip had learnt her own unique series of whistles to communicate with Shiba from her tribes tradition, where one would pick - or rather be chosen- by a hatchling at a young age. This hatchling would be a life companion, a scout, a hunter and most importantly - a friend. Pip had been ecstatic when Shiba chose her and had taken days of running through the grassland trying to find the perfect mix of clicks, whistles and soft purring sounds to communicate as Shiba flew above.

Nowadays Pip had a strong friendship with Shiba and they knew each other so well sometimes they did not even need the extensive communication they had built up. Even amongst her tribe Pip was one of the best ‘Trainers’ they had seen.

Seventys talent is weapon making and fighting.
She got bored at home and looked it up on internet.
Thats what living in a crowded house did to you as a kit.
She hated the life and was happier where she was.
She enjoyed both hobbies so much she made it a full time job.
The fighting was physically learned by picking fights with others.
She didnt use the weapons though just herself.
Seventy had to hide the talent.
She was very good at it.

Foragers talent is throwing knifes.
He needed knifes to use for survival and got bored in the wild and made it a game.
He makes money of it while having fun.
Kind of messed up he found the weapon as a kid though.
He was smart enough not to hurt himself though and remembered use from his dad.

Eli talent is ship steering.
Mostly learned on the job because nature doesnt give you a choice in the matter.
Plus she had to live somewhere and she did like the ocean.
Its kind of like shes a pirate but more legal.

"But dad... what if we get caught in a storm?" Jupiter asked quietly, eyes looking up at the dark, cloudy sky worriedly as we set up our tent.

"Honey, we won't. I've checked the weather for today already," He responded casually smiling amusedly at his daughter's cute frown.

"But... you can't do that," She protested, stomping her little paws in confusion as her dad chuckled lightly.

"Sweetie, look at the birds. Do you see how they're flying about, working to gather seeds and nuts, ignoring the feathers? If a storm were coming, they'd be primping up their nest and making sure it's sturdy, but they're gathering food instead," He pointed out,
tilting his head towards a small robin in the nearest evergreen.

"You're putting our lives in the wings of a tiny, helpless robin?" She asked frustratedly, motioning towards the tiny avian.

"Not only the birds, Jupi, no! Look at the trees! See how they reach their branches high? Not one of them is darkened by a gloomy shadow." He responded with a soft look.

"You're risking our lives because a bird and a tree don't think it's going to storm?" She snorted, incredulously staring at him blankly.

"Now, sweetheart, we wouldn't die in a storm, and there are many things that say it's not going to storm for weeks in this location.
Take a peek at the rotation of the clouds, or the animals moods, or their activities, or those small ones of a plant. You just need to pay attention to nature's mood." He replied happily, staring up to the heavens.

Fenian

Fenian walked though a green forest. Emerald leaves glinted in the sunlight and cast shadows upon the cool earth. The brown kalon scanned the underbrush with slow ease and his eyes stopped on the plant he had been searching for. Collecting the pale blue berries carefully in his mouth, he deposited them into a bag made of vines and elephant-ear leaves that hung around his neck. It was filled with many berries and herbs that would be useful to him. He listened to the birdsong, thinking about the first day he had begun learning about the many plants of the woodlands.

"Fenian, you must never take a plant in which you have doubt. Sometimes even the smallest drop can cause a lot of illness." Fenian listened to the elven chief with close attention, watching as he sorted through the leaves before him. He had taught the young kalon everything he knew and was always so patient with his eager apprentice. Now Fenian was a beloved friend of the fairy folk and danced and lived among them, always willing to share his knowledge with any curious children.

Prompt 11 - Zadkiel never signed up for his “special talent.” He never asked for a spotlight to light up every aspect of his life, to be the village’s oracle. But, of course, being born with extra arms and two tails kind of does that to a Kalon.

From birth, everyone knew Zadkiel would become the holiest, most special oracle the small village had ever seen- they knew he’d be able to predict the future, concoct potions, and heal others seamlessly. Zadkiel? He had no idea what was happening, but nonetheless trailed behind with any resistance falling on deaf ears.

Now, after over a decade of training, he’s filling the 6 shoes laid before him. Residing in the mountains above the village, travelers come from miles around to have him read their paws or give them herbs. Zadkiel, though often flustered, does his best and some how succeeds in getting approval from those around him. While half of his “talent” is definitely luck, he’s managed to make a name for himself nonetheless. [168]

What is a special talent that your kalon has, and how did they learn it?

A special talent Seraphim has discovered in himself, he’s realized, would be how easily he can read people. He started this behavior when he grew up with his poker faced and stoic father, and has only furthered his talents with his siblings and other straight face members of royal families. It seems like everyone around him masks their emotions with a blank face, and although he can do it himself, he prefers to be genuine with both his eyes and smile. Upon meeting Florence, this skill has really developed into something that Sera relies on. Florence is a very unforgiving and stoic man, and Sera has to give his best efforts to pick up on the slightest changes in Florence’s behavior, posture, and facial expression to truly understand what the other man might be thinking about the situation at hand. Although sometimes this talent is a curse, and he can immediately tell when someone is being untruthful to him, it’s a skill he does not regret learning. Having these types of people-reading abilities gives him a strong advantage in almost all situations, and helps him to better deal with situations before they may get out of hand. Many fight or confrontations have been ended before they have even begun, and he can usually very easily pick out liars just from a simple change in how they stand or speak. Sera realizes that as he gets older and spends more time alongside other poker faced men and women, this secret skill of his will only continue to give him the upper hand.

Prompt 11 - Vinny

xxxHeat beat down onto Vinny's fur, further weighing it down with sweat. She had been sitting on the beach for hours now, watching the violent ocean seemingly have a battle with itself. Monstrous waves repeatedly rose up and crashed down. They would have surely pulled any Kalon under with them had they actually been out in the water currently. Thankfully, the lifeguard on duty had long before hung up the daunting red flag onto their post. Not a single swimmer, surfer, or boater could be seen out on the waves.
xxxOn any other day, Vinny would value the excuse to take a break from her daily surfing, and just chill out on the beach. However, she was just itching to get out on the waves. Vinny wanted nothing more than to grab her board and ignore the bright flag waving violently through the air, similarly reflecting the way the ocean was behaving. To go out on the waves in this condition, however, would be a death wish. The second she wiped out, she'd no doubt to carried away by a rip current. Either never to be seen again, or having to be saved via helicopter.
xxxSo instead of running headlong into the waves, she stayed seated on the hot sand. There was no shade nearby, and of course she had forgotten to bring her umbrella. Vinny had been planning to surf the entire duration of her visit to the beach, so the idea of bringing an umbrella hasn't crossed her mind. The urge to surf had still not left her, and she began to grow impatient with the water. Why did it have to have a temper tantrum when she most needed to surf? After all, if she was going to win the contest, she'd need all the practice she could get. It was only a week away, a youth surf competition hosted by a local surf group. The grand prize would be more than enough to get herself some new gear, and pay for a getaway for her parents.
xxxEveryday, from ten in the morning to four in the afternoon she had practiced. Old tricked Vinny knew she could land, and new ones she was sure would impress the judges. Countless times she had wiped out from her trying out some of the new stunts, but that didn't stop Vinny from getting right back up onto her board and trying again. Practice made perfect, as they said, and Vinny was set on reaching perfection. Not just in impressive tricks, but also smooth transitions and clean landings. Surfing was like dancing in a way. She had to put moves together to the melody that was crashing waves. She couldn't fight the sea, she had to work with it. The water as her dance partner, and the board was just an extension of her own body. If Vinny put everything together correctly, she'd win first place for sure.
xxxThe shrill sound of a whistle broke her out of her reverie. The lifeguard had switched the fiery red flag for a calming green one. It fluttered gently in the wind. Vinny quickly turned toward the water. The waves that had been crashing together what felt like just minutes ago, were now calmly lapping against the seashore. Rolling in and out as smooth as can be. At the sight, Vinny smiled, snatched her board from next to her, and headed for the water. She may have had to sit out for the first few hours of today, but that didn't mean she'd skip out on practice entirely.

Hylo wasn't really good at anything growing up. He was ok with sports, ok with art and pretty average everywhere else. He always felt invisible or like he blended into the background within his friend group. Tended to be OCD, enjoyed picking at things and ask a lot of questions. It wasn't until he was looking over colleges in high school that he thought he finally found his calling.
Hylo is strange, he likes to pick at things like acne, freckles on eggs and other things he finds annoying. He attended a tour of the dental program, putting on his mask, gloves and a white jacket, sitting in a chair and watching how the whole thing worked. Seeing the way teeth were cleaned gave him an odd feeling of satisfaction, like just being there and removing all the build up changed his mood. That was when he went into college to be a hygienist.
Surprisingly, he was social and knit picky enough to be perfect for the job. He loved encouraging better hygiene and instructing kits on how to have sparkling white teeth. His hidden talent was several little things that made him good at his job. Attention to detail, being a great teacher and caring for strangers. Being kind to others and hopeful towards the health makes him feel like a good person.
