Nolan and his siblings would visit the same lake in the summer. Often, the young kalons would pick through rocks to find good skipping stones. One of those hot, summer days Nolan picked up the rock pictured above. It was far too heavy, and it had a small crack in it. His eldest sister teased him, telling him that the rock wouldn't skip before throwing it into the water.
It took Nolan the entire day to find his "skipping" stone in the cloudy lake.
It was distinctive, dark grays with speckles. It almost had a little bit of a sheen to it. After that fiasco, he marked it with crayon. A white crayon, used to inscribe a small heart on it.
