Oh my its Reining. 1/14/14
Today is the day we started Brillo in reining training, and by lord this horse will be the hardest horse to teach anything too. Being now a full fledged spunky, little two year old had its perks, but the draw backs exceeded the perks. Perk number 1.) longer attention span 2.) Developed mussels ready to be shaped. Then there are the draw back to Brillo's age 1.) He is crazy energetic 2.) Still a bit to young to show 3.) Such a long way to go 4.) The goofiness of his lope. Today is the day we found out Brillo's lope is beautiful, with low head and nice smooth strides, I mean for all about ten seconds then it turned to giddy, high headed nastiness. Keep in mind today was just a round pen day too. Welcome, to my life as Vanessa with my wonderful stallion Brillo. I shall keep monthly entries in this book for my family. I can't wait tos see his progression, bear with me!
Meeting Siren 2/21/14
Its been a month full of promise, sadly reining wasn't Brillo's expertise. I have found something that perks this playful boys interest. Liberty with Siren. Yesterday, was the first time he had ever met my buttermilk tovero Marchador mare. Siren and myself where just working her basic liberty moves, bow, lope away with my hand, paw and rearing. Then out of the corner of my eyes I saw Brillo half following Siren's actions, when she bowed he just dropped his head. When she pawed, he pawed. This made me wonder..Maybe, Brillo could be good at this. So I left Siren in the round pen, and brought Brillo in. Best part about all of this is, Brillo's big bad stallion attitude trying to be all cocky, and show off in front of Siren. I laughed as the stud tried to follow the bow but just laid down rolling in the dust. I sent Siren, to one end of the round pen with the wave of my ball cap at her turning my back to Brillo. I was talking a watching, as I felt Brillo come up behind me. I turned around to get him away, and he had my ball cap in his mouth! As soon as I turned her bolted loping around the pen head high, still holding my hat as he snorted and whinnied as loud as he could. He was so proud of himself, for stealing my hat. I wasn't mad all I could do was laugh, as she ran to Siren and got her trotting beside him. Next month will be bonkers if this keeps up.![]()

Show Name;; Red Phantom
Barn Name;; Red
Age;; 8 years
Gender;; Stallion
Breed;; Appaloosa
Personality;; Although Red has seen much tragedy in his life, he is still a stallion that thoroughly enjoys living. He relishes every moment, every breath he takes on this Earth. The world is full of exploration, and he intends to find it all. Red is very in the moment. He does his best not to dwell on past events -- after all, they cannot be changed now. For a stallion, he is remarkably gentle. Of course, like everybody, he has his wild days, but in comparison to other stallions, he is quite quiet. Red holds so much love he desires to share, but he has not yet found a mare to share it with. Yet he does have his prospects. Oddly enough, Red adores any kind of music. If you play it out in his pasture, he'll start to do fancy footwork and prance around in his paddock. However, despite his love for music, he hates dressage. He could quite easily be classified as a hopeless romantic... he falls hard for mares, and hurts when its over.
History;; Red was born into captivity, in a small barn in Arizona, edging on the desert. He a little younger than three when a terrible storm struck his home, breaking the pasture fencing. In terror, he fled into the desert, where he soon banded up with some other free-roaming bachelor stallions. His size, being a staggering 16hh, was both an advantage and a disadvantage. It was an advantage, due to the fact he was able to claim a mare within his first year, and they started a small family. This mare, known as Shadow-of-the-Dune to him, was his heart and soul. He would do anything for her. Unfortunately, drought dispelled her existence, leaving him alone and shattered. He migrated downwards into lusher lands, and ended up being rounded up on a Cottonwood expedition. Due to his flashy coat, he was quickly adopted, but his new owner soon got caught up in their own life, being unable to give him the time he needed. I, Quetzal Grey of The Silent Forest Stud, have applied for a lease for this flashy stallion, and he is currently enjoying life at our forested stable while he waits for his forever home. He has become quite close with our mare Bree, and our younger stallions Dagger, Agate and Menilite, a trio of brothers pastured next to him.
Likes;; Red loves music, other horses {yes, even stallions}, company of any semi-intelligent species, hot, summer days and soft meadows. He feels best when he is safe and secure in the company of others, i.e. he has his own little herd, either they are stallions or mares.
Dislikes;; Red becomes very anxious when he is alone, or cannot see another horse. He is no match for cold days or aggressive animals. Dressage, or any other activity in which he is shown off or made to show off makes him nervous.
Beloved;; Red, finally getting over the loss of Shadow-of-the-Dune, is now pursuing the heart of Bree, my feisty pony-cross mare. She is much shorter than him, yet that only adds to her charm. In his eyes, at least.
Fears;; Red has a fear of being alone, and a fear of cacti. Luckily for him, if he stays with us, he will have no need to worry about cacti, due to our mountainous area.
Dreams & Desires;; Red is a pretty simple stallion when it comes to his dreams and desires. He doesn't want much, but to stay out of the limelight and live in a safe and secure place for the rest of his life. Of course, he wishes that Shadow-of-a-Dune could have remained alive, but he knows there is no changing that. The dead remain dead. Secretly, but perhaps as not secretly as he thinks he is, he wishes to win the hoof of Bree.
Discipline;;Red does not excel in one discipline. As a matter of fact, he hates showing, due to all the attention fixed on him. However, once and a while we get him pulling a carriage and teaching children to ride. What we would never do is put him into dressage, for he completely despises it.
Songs in order of appearance;;The Last Page -- Aviators, Supersymmetry -- Arcade Fire, Redundant -- Green Day, Holland Road -- Mumford & Sons, Turn -- New Order
