PROMPT #9 - tell about a time your kalon had to travel, and where did they go?

Elton took one last look around him at his family, his island and everything else that he was about to leave behind for good. Ever since he was young he knew he didn't belong here where it was necessary to fight in order to survive since, quite frankly, he was the weakest out of his siblings without a question. He knew his days here would be numbered if he stayed as he was always getting himself into trouble and finding that his brothers and sister would have to continously come to the rescue. Knowing that you were the weak link and everyone would have to constantly look out for you was never a pleasant feeling for Elton. Sure, he knew that they loved him and that this care was part of the unconditional love of a family, but he loathed the fact he couldn't protect himself let alone the rest of them the way he should.

When he was younger, his father Bleach spent a lot of extra time with him trying to teach him how to defend against the other creatures on the island but he never quite got the hang of it and always ended up doing more damage to himself than to the targets that Bleach had constructed for this purpose. Resolving very early on that he would never be quite as strong or brave as the rest of his family, Elton chose instead to regularly banish himself to the relative safety of the ruins of the resort so that he would be less of a worry to his parents and siblings, and it was there that he discovered the books left over from when his mother had run the resort before she was left cursed. Once he begged his mother Mercel to teach him how to read, he found within these books tales of valiant knights arriving on their pacing steeds to save the day - an image Elton grew to resent since he would never be strong enough to save anyone - and stories of children seeking to become educated.


It sounded cheesy at the time, but he grew to realise how much he wanted the same as the 'normal' kits. Elton was basically illiterate and while he could read, the wish to be able to write and discover the strange concept of music would only remain a distant dream if he chose to stay in the bubble the island gave him.

His parents took a while to convince and some of his family chose to be unsupportive of his decision, but Elton's mind was already made up: he wanted an education despite the fact he would have to leave home and never come back. He knew what he was leaving behind and this wasn't a decision he made lightly, but the craving to learn overtook everything else. Elton loved his family and he knew that communication would be limited to messages in bottles once he learned to write, but it was time for him to make a life for himself where he could be himself without fears that he could die at any given moment.


His family had lined up next to the raft he had thrown together which would hopefully survive until the mainland, it was rickety but it looked sturdy enough to do the job and it would have to do since there was little else that could be made given their fairly primitive resources. Elton went past his siblings first, embracing them and saying their goodbyes in order. First was Maximus who he called Maxi even though he hated it and then was Lumi, though he more often called her Lulu. Then he arrived at Domino. Throughout his life Elton had always been slightly closer to Dom than the rest of his siblings, not for any particular reason, but he knew this would be a more difficult parting than the rest.

"Don't set fire to anything," Dom said to him and Elton felt tears prick into his eyes. Something far more complicated than he wished to explain was being summed up in those words and it made him realie how much he would miss this one family member in particular. He would not allow himself to cry but this was his closest brother and he would never be able to hold him again or have him tell him face to face how stupid he was. Their hug lasted longer than with his other siblings and he counted the seconds in his head while they squeezed each other as tight as they could, something they had always done since they were kits. One... two... three... four... five... six... se- and then he was pulling away. Elton secretly dried his tears before moving on to bid farewell to his parents.

A sudden impact and Mercel had thrown her arms around him squeezing all of the air out his lungs and almost the life out of his body. A long and rapid string of words left her mouth as she told him to take care and to go and find his older adopted brother and sister Abrashio and Tina whom he had never had a chance to meet, but from what he had heard they chose to make the same decision as him. The plan was simple: make it to the mainland in one piece and go to stay with Tina until he could get himself set up. He removed her arms from around him and held one of them in each hand while he assured her that he would be fine. Elton was very young but he had still developed a fairly strong common sense. Bleach grunted at him slightly but Elton still chose to give him and embrace before clambering onto the slghtly makeshift raft and starting to push himself off the beach.

Once he had set off, it was all he could do to just sit there waving until his family were nothing but pinpricks who he knew were frantically waving though he could no longer see it. This was the start of everything.

Devin is no newbie to taking trips - in fact, there is rarely a time when she's not on the road. She's currently planning her next trip, in fact... and perhaps a friend wants to come along with her...

Tell about a time your kalon had to travel, and where did they go?

In the past, her parents took her to the annual tribe meeting where they met with other tribe leaders and discussed the year’s events and the way onward. It was perhaps the only time the three tribes of her land met to speak peacefully, completely ignoring border disputes that occurred every day. It was almost tradition for the tribes to fight over territory, and debating those issues would be futile. It was like there was an unspoken agreement between them to never set permanent boarders, and that had in its own way kept the tribes in contact with each other.

They travelled to what they considered the centre of the land, a spacious clearing in a small grove of trees situated between all three tribes, and simply sat down and talked, often of how they had fared throughout the year and if they needed support regarding food or supplies. Cedany rarely participated, instead allowing her parents to talk for her tribe while she was busy remembering what the other tribes were doing. It was quite essential to remember small details given from each leader, and she wanted the practice of being able to just sit and memorise information.

Now she often travels to the meeting alone, her father having retired from leading her tribe, and she sometimes wishes for those days when she could just sit and have someone else talk on her behalf.

Ghastly was banished from her home and ended up on her friends porch.
The travel made them ill and tired for it wasnt through her own means.
They was lucky she didnt end up somewhere weird for she never quite understood traveling.
What is a car? A plane? They would never understand an airport for there isnt enough money to travel.
Whenever someone would try explaining they would get frustrated.
She didnt want to hear anymore of this traveling stuff.

Forager hated traveling and loved it.
Rounding up animals was a pain.
Cleaning up the grounds they worked on was disgusting.
He did love the new sights he got to see though.
Traveling to new places was fun.
He didnt want the work though.

The crew loved to travel.
Eli enjoyed the sights of a new land.
Trystyn and Emily got to get more research on their work.
Everyone won in that case.

Zadkiel's right of passage into becoming an oracle consisted of a long journey up a mountain close to his village. Though cold, his thick fur kept him warm enough!

Prompt 9

He's gone many places... India, China, Northern Africa, Europe and Russia... Howl for many years of his life has traveled in solitude to the best and worst of places to spread his magic gift to the needy. He's always been kind and open to assisting those in need, but his favorite place he ever traveled was probably the temple of Ajanta Ellora in India.
A brief history, the temple is carved from stone into the mountain side and said to be over 1,000 years old. Paintings, sculptures and history are recorded here from some time in the BC era and then 400-650CE. It's interesting to see the fascinating spot not only an artistic phenomenon but also done in two very different time frames; a reflection of evolving culture for sure. While it's a little far from the buzzing parts of India, he was called there by some luck and discovered this breath taking place.
He makes a note that any time he travels to India that he make time to visit some of the other well known temples as well, wanting to know not only the enriched people but their past and customs. While Howl remains a non-religious kalon, he quite enjoys learning and partaking in different religious acts or customs. When he gives his kindness to others, they return it and he only betters himself from traveling and putting himself out there.

using jacob and cassiel words: 202

jacob set his chin on his arms watching the stars from above. he was sailing the seas again, this time off
to some island for whatever reason. he had forgotten why, hell probably remember when morning comes.
jacob has absolutely no idea what time it is but he knows for sure its late night, I can tell by the stars, he
thought. the captain tried to hold in a yawn but failed he was tired, of course, one would be so after travelling
in sea for days.

but he enjoyed sailing the waves, as he could watch the oceans below and the stars above. it calmed him. his
ears perked when he heard someone familiar, turning around jacob saw the familiar face of his right hand man,
and former best friend, cassiel whistling a tune. "its rare to see you up so late, whatre you doing out?" Jacob asked.

cassiel chuckled, "look whose talking, you almost never sleep. why's that?" cassiel tipped his head. "its nice out,
the main reason why I like travelling so much." jacob settled back to his previous position. cassiel didn't say any
thing after that, but that was fine. jacob didn't want anyone interrupting his stargazing moment.
