[ ❧ ] the hardest thing about having to comfort someone is when you dont know how to do that. growing up, you werent often found by your family, and you didnt have many friends. you instead sat by the ocean for hours on end, until people just stopped caring about what you did or didnt do. the rush of the sea in your veins never stopped, so you followed it to greener pastures, never looking back, never thinking about what you left behind. you didnt want to, partially, and the other part of you just couldnt seem to make you care.

whenever you had bad days, you did something else to distract you. distraction was your go-to for every kind of problem you faced, because ignoring it was a lot easier than confronting whatever was bothering you. however, when you started dating, this method of run and hide until you were ready to come back didnt work. she would get worried about you, wondered where you were going, and when she was feeling bad, she didnt ignore the issue. she either tackled it head on or thought about it obsessively until she knew how to fix it, or in most cases, put a band-aid on the issue until she could resolve it more permanently.

you werent like that. you didnt know how to confront things, because for your whole life, you've only ever run away. you've only ever avoided your problems until you were forced to, and you crumbled under the pressure of avoiding it for so long. but she knew how to, at least, more than you did. whenever you feel bad, she told you to something. a bit of advice to keep in mind, for when you feel like running off again. and if it gets really bad, you can come to her, and work it out together. she's so willing to help you, even when you're so hopelessly lost and stuck in your own cloud of misery.

unlearning what you knew and learning what you should have always known hasnt been easy, but you're getting there, and it's only with her help and her kind words and guidance that you've gotten this far. she picked you up and told you that you were strong enough, that you could fix things when things went wrong, and that no bad thing lasts forever. she gave you life again, and one day... you hope to repay the favor.

dearest child,

xxxxxi have missed you so much! i know it's been a while since i've been able to come see you at the orphanage, but trying to get my degree in social work has taken up so much of my time. i'm trying to find room in my schedule; i should hopefully be coming to visit this saturday! i'm hopefully bringing cupcakes.

xxxxxi hope things are going okay for you. i know the last time we talked, you were still really worried about being about being able to get into school. i know the fund you received from your parents wasn't enough at all, and with rising tuition prices, the odds simply aren't in your favor.

xxxxxhowever, that is not meant to discourage you at all. you know i've taken a liking to you since i met you; you remind me of myself. your home life was not easy, and things with your parents even when they were alive were questionable at best. being at an orphanage is hard, and i can't begin to imagine how it feels to be you, but i hope my support and the support of the orphanage has helped you a bit.

xxxxxwith that said, you are about to begin a new chapter of your life. i believe in you, and regardless of what you end up doing, i know you have the perseverance and the drive to be successful. i have never met anyone else quite like you, and i cannot wait to see who you become.

xxxxxwhile i do expect you to, of course, apply properly to a school and any scholarships they may offer or you may qualify for, this fund will cover any gaps that appear in funding. don't feel limited in where you want to apply; do what makes you happy and helps you achieve your dreams. in your four years of undergraduate studies, so long as you are diligent and do your work, you will never have to worry about money again.

Sera gently rubbed circles into Florence’s back, keeping quiet but saying everything he needed to just in these minimal affectionate touches. In his lover’s journey to remain sober, relapsing nights like these were not uncommon by any means. Usually, Florence just responded in an almost unstoppable fit of anger, demanding that he or anyone else could tell him what to do. Sometimes, though, he responding by simply curling up and staying quiet in his own ball of depression and self-pity. Whether he be yelling or crying, Sera loved and support Florence all the same, and knew these were necessary steps in Florence’s road to recovery.

The young prince sat there with his companion for hours, gently stroking Florence’s long hair and back while the other silently fought his own battles in his mind. Occasionally, Seraphim would leave just for a moment to ring up the maids in order to get Florence some hot tea. As much as the prince swore to Sera that he didn’t need any or he wasn't thirsty, eventually the other would take a sip and Sera could see some of the tension melt away from his love’s shoulders.

On these nights, Seraphim simply offered his company. Talking did nothing for Florence, and would often make him begin to get angry or explode with emotion if he was not already. After much practice and understanding, Sera had came to the realization that the only thing Florence needed was someone to be there for him. Both mentally, as well as physically. These nights were long and stressful for them both, the pair usually spending the next day napping among silk sheets together to recover their drained energy. However, Sera couldn’t imagine things any other way - even if he must trade in his own sleep to make Florence feel any ounce of better.

Prompt 7 - Val

xxxWords were something that Val had always had a hard time with. He never could find the right ones to use, or when to use them. Giving flowers that held a certain message always had a bigger appeal to Val compared to sending a long, dragged-out letter. Sadly, the art of crafting bouquets conveying messages had mostly been lost to time. That didn't change the fact that receiving flowers made Kalons happy, even if they couldn't pick up on the deeper meaning behind the flower choices.
xxxSo when his dearest friend Ruth told him she had been having a bad day, he rushed to his garden to make a bouquet to cheer her up. You'd think a bouquet wouldn't be the best gift for a flower shop owner, seeing as how many they have already, but Ruth couldn't get enough flowers, no matter how many she already had. Val made sure to pick flowers that were sure to cheer her up, from their beauty and meaning. Yellow roses for joy and friendship, goldenrods for good fortune, lilies-of-the-valley for sweetness, and morning glories for affection.
xxxOnce he seemed that he had picked enough flowers, he arranged them into a nice case and added a nice bow as an afterthought. It wasn't much, but it'd have to do. At the very least, the flower arrangement would bring a smile to Ruth's face.

xxx"That was my goal, glad I achieved it!" Val should have known that out of everyone, his florist friend would get the meaning behind the bouquets he made. It's nice to know someone will appreciate the extra effort he puts into the flower arrangements he makes them. All that really matter though was that Ruth felt a little better.

Blair sighed, wiping the sweat from her face so it didn't drip into the mixture that was under her. She had been working hard all day, trying to make it perfect. By it, I mean the cake. Blair was making a cake for Jeremie, her sister, since she had been the one to sell the last few items needed to reach their dollar goal. The cake she was making was a napoleon cake, her sisters favourite, and it was also a very hard cake to make. It required a lot of effort and time, so she had to think of a distraction to keep her sister out of the bakery they both worked and lived at. That was not an easy task. Since Jeremie was a but naive and easily fooled, Blair sent her sister on a wild goose chase, asking her to find "snow carrots" for "snow carrot cake". Of course, snow carrots didn't actually exist. Blair went all out and made a description of snow carrots, a list of possible stores to find them at and a fake recipe to better fool her sister. Thankfully, Jeremie fell for it and has been out all day. Knowing her sister is unpredictable, Blair rushed to bake and ice the cake, not knowing when Jeremie will be home. She's been lucky so far, but it's only a matter of time before she arrives empty handed.

About an hour later, with still no sign of Jeremie, Blair had finished the cake. It took a lot of effort and ingredients, that's for sure, and Blair hoped it would be worth it. She thought about just fishing a napoleon cake out of the rows upon rows of premade cakes (napoleon wasn't a very popular cake), but brushed it off. This cake that she had just poured her soul into came from the heart, and, despite being the same recipe as all the other ones, might taste just a bit sweeter with all the love that went in. Blair covered the cake up, put it in the back off their personal fridge, and went back downstairs to their living areas. She flopped down on the couch and waited for Jeremie to arrive.

Not long after, Blair heard the door open and the little bell jingle. She walked slowly upstairs, careful not to rush and sound excited, and greeted Jeremie in the kitchen. She looked utterly defeated. "Blair, I'm sorry. I couldn't find any snow carrots. Nobody even knew what they were." Jeremie sighed, obviously disappointed in herself. Blair sat down, beckoning Jeremie to join her.
"Well that's too bad. I would have loved to make snow carrot cake." Blair was trying to sound disappointed, but it didn't really work out. Trying to hold back a laugh was hard, and the desire to tell her sister about the cake was strong. She let Jeremie rant a little bit more, before mentioning her recent achievement. "So, you know you sold the last few items from here that we needed to reach our money goal, right?" Jeremie just shrugged, obviously not that impressed with herself. Blair could see that she was really disappointed about not finding the snow carrots, more disappointed that Blair thought she would be. She got up, opened the fridge and took out the big plate holding the cake. She set in down in front of her sister. "I made this to celebrate." Jeremie's eyes lit up at the sight of the cake and knew what Blair was talking about. Right as she was about to dig in, fork in hand, she stopped and looked over at her sister. With a smile on her face, she split the cake in half. "You helped too. We couldn't have done this without each other." Blair sat back down, taking her half of the cake, and they both starting eating.
