Tell about a time your kalon had to lie.
[ FluffyBirdie |Kalon/s: Kayleigh ]

Lying came so naturally to Jay that she couldn’t remember a time when she was forced to lie. Outcasts like her had no home, and spending most her time either in hiding or pretending to be someone she was not, lying was second nature.

The was a time though, when someone saw past all her smiles and charming conversation, and saw the person behind the guise. The old woman had shuffled up to her, mentioned that she really wasn’t the best at lying, and invited her into her home. Jay, certain it was a trap, had gripped her dagger handles using her second pair of arms, fully prepared to attack the woman and force her to tell where the troop was. It was perhaps the most obvious giveaway of her other arms, hidden beneath a coat that moved and rustled as her arms did, but at that moment Jay did not care. Disguise broken or not, the troop that had set up this trap knew her second pair of arms already, so it shouldn’t matter.

And as she expected, the old woman did not react, instead insisting for her to be welcomed at her house. β€œYou have nothing to fear from me.” She had said, and a third eye slightly opened, before giving a one-eye approximation of a wink before closing again. She had been so shocked at the sight, and absurdly, trust filled her. The woman was a fellow outcast, perhaps hated because of their extra abilities. That explained why the woman’s house was so far set from the others. Jay accepted the invitation, loosening her grip on her weapons and allowing her arms to relax. Those had been her best days ever since she was kicked out of the Army, and when the time came to leave, Jay thanked the old woman, telling her that if she did not move soon, the troops would hunt her down.

β€œWill you visit me?” She had asked, and Jay had briefly hugged the old woman before smiling back, her heart a cold stone in her chest.

β€œOf course.”

Day 6 - Eternity + Don [kit] - The Snake
Don smiled nervously, hiding his hands behind his back. He glanced away from his mother towering above him. "Well..." He muttered, "I didn't touch anything."

"Young man, you most certainly did." Her tone was patronizing as she eyed him skeptically, "Sir you most definitely took a cookie, I just saw you making your getaway."

He didn't let his facade drop, no matter how unconvincing it was. "I didn't--!" As he was about to excuse himself further the cookie dropped from his hands, pattering across the kitchen floor until it landed at his mother's feet.

"Caught you red handed," She crossed her arms, frowning down at him.

He was practically sweating bullets as he swallowed his pride, "Alright... I guess I took one... Just one, though."

"I saw you eat at least two others..." She stated flatly.

Don crumpled down into the time-out corner, having seen it coming for the entire exchange. It was nothing new, but... he just couldn't resist those sweet chocolate chip cookies.

[prompt 6]: heartbreak

Postby hiraeth + hound » Thu Feb 22, 2018 5:02 am

Tell about a time your kalon had to lie.

        seraphim & florence

        "You deserve better than this."

Sera had been repeating these words in his head for days now, locking himself within the walls of his room like his own personal prison of heartbreak. He tried to come to terms with himself endlessly, staring at his walls with sunken and tired blue eyes.

"You don't need him." But, he did need him.

"You don't love him." But he did love him, with all of his heart.

"He doesn't love you." That one stung. Even thinking it, much less saying it out loud, made his chest swell with an unrelenting sadness. He hoped Florence loved him - he hoped that all this time the glint in Florence's eyes when he looked at Sera wasn't just a fleeting love. The young prince wished he didn't want to immediately run into Florence's arms for comfort, when he was the one who hurt him so. A familiar trail of tears were wiped away with the back of his hand, burying his face into the soft silk pillows. He'd give up a million pillows just to be with Florence again. Even though his lover made a mistake, Sera didn't want anyone else but himself to be in Florence's arms.

Nonetheless, the young prince continued the rest of the week trying to keep his head held high. On occasions where his mind slipped, it always went back to Florence. Those warm, whisky brown eyes would be painted in his mind no matter how hard he tried to get rid of them. A gentle touch to his shoulder startled him from now painful memories. "Are you alright, Sera?" his mother questioned, obvious suspicion and concern lacing her tone.

"I'm fine, Mother." But he wasn't.

"Tell about a time your kalon had to lie."
|| Zyron || Solomon || Marseilles ||

"No one can see them, Zy. Ever."

Zyron, small and twelve years old and swaddled in a blanket that caught on the scabs at their wrists and throat, silently nodded. Their gaze was trained unsteadily on Solomon's boots, and they blinked belatedly when the man abruptly knelt to catch their eye.

"Zyron," he said patiently, "I need you to say it aloud. Promise me that no one will know."

Zyron twisted to look at their wings, butterfly-fragile and drooping beneath the heavy woolen shawl. They said hoarsely, "Why?"

Solomon sighed. He set his weight back on his heels and studied Zyron for a long moment, looked at the kid's hunger-thin shoulders and hunched back. Solomon didn't know exactly where Zyron had come from; he knew only that they'd shown up below deck one evening, wet with blood and sea grime, and asked to stay. Zyron was prickly, defensive, prone to secrecy and privacy; but Solomon had seen their wings nonetheless, and he worried. He knew Acriens' king's reputation, a man with an appetite for the unusual and exotic, and he suspected that Zyron had fled from his clutches. He knew should someone see Zyron now, and recognize the wings, that the king would be alerted to where he was.

"They're different," Solomon said finally. "I need you to look like everybody else."

There was a moment of silent consideration, the kid's face pinched in thought. Zyron nodded, weakly flexed their wings and then curled them up until they lay flat to the shape of their back.

"Okay." They said. "I won't show anyone."

-----

As Zyron got older, their wings grew. There was a brief interim when they struggled to keep them flattened to the narrow plane of their shoulders; but eventually, by the time their eighteenth birthday rolled around, they were so used to the warmth of their wings hugging their back that peeling them free to fly felt like blasphemy.

Solomon's crew knew Zyron was a little different, but only the captain and quartermaster knew Zy had wings. It was a carefully maintained secret, and one that Zyron worked to keep. They remembered their promise to Solomon and by eighteen even they had heard the rumors surrounding Acriens' king, so it remained an important vow.

On Solomon and Sylvan's behest, Zyron moved to Brindille shortly after their birthday. Solomon had heard gossip of a kid born with butterfly wings at one of his favorite ports, and he worried that someone might know something; so they moved Zyron inland, and made them promise to keep a low profile.

"Just go to university and we'll come get you when it's safe," Solomon told them. "It won't be long."

Zyron lived on campus on the University of Brindille, and went to their scheduled classes with little interest. They did not expect that they would be here long enough to make listening or learning even vaguely worthwhile, so they took only absent-minded notes and largely ignored their professors. For a few weeks they kept to themselves, and spent the majority of their evenings alone.

One Tuesday night Zyron was driven forcefully from their dorm, their neighbour's late and loud party bleeding noise through the walls, and took to the library. They'd been there a few times, and knew by now that the third floor was the quietest and least social. They curled into an armchair tucked beside a window and scrolled through their tablet, absentmindedly rubbing at the edge of one iridescent wing where it lay over the arch of their shoulder.

They did not even realize they were being watched, not until someone said loudly, "What is that?"

Zyron startled. They jerked the collar of their sweater up to hide the patch of their wing, glared furiously at the man towering before them. He was unusually tall and leggy, his vibrant pink hair tousled with curls and his face framed by a pair of enormous glasses. Behind them he blinked owlishly, and then grinned.

"I'm Marcy," he said. When Zyron stayed mutinously quiet Marcy said smugly, "And you're winged, right?"

"Hush!" Zyron snapped, snatching the man's hand and dragging him into a crouch. "Don't say it so loud."

Marcy blinked again. He cocked his head, squinted at Zyron's mulish face, and then said, "Oh! You mean that really was a wing? I thought you were just cosplaying a mermaid." Zyron frowned and Marcy tugged at their joined hands, said plaintively, "Let me see."

"No," Zyron said, smacking at Marcy's grabby hands. They inadvertently remembered their promise to Solomon and realized with some dawning horror that this man here, this pink-haired buffoon, was the first person Zyron had ever slipped up in front of. Whether Zyron liked it or not, Marcy knew the truth. Solomon, Sylvan, and this stranger in the university's library.

"Oh my god," Zyron said under their breath, prying their fingers loose from Marcy's. "You can't tell anyone. Okay?"

Marcy sobered a little. "It really is quite a secret, huh?"

Zyron groaned, pressed their knuckles against their eyes. "This is a nightmare."

"Oh hey, hey." Marcy nudged at Zyron's knee, grinned when Zyron looked reluctantly at him. "I promise I won't tell. I'm good at keeping secrets."

"I don't believe that," Zyron said dryly. "But thanks, I guess."

Prompt 6

She was never the most honest kalon out there, she got her job through blackmail she never indented to follow through on and talked highly of herself to build up curiosity. Maya however has not fully forgiven herself for the night she ran away and told a lie that might send someone to the grave. The night she ran away from home, the week of joining the circus and becoming who she'd dreamed of being for years! It all started in her bedroom, around 2am when she slowly opened her doors.
They creaked against the silence, echoing dangerously off the walls but no footsteps followed when she listened. Maya had taken to wearing a black dress, slim around her waste but a flowing skirt to keep her legs from getting tied up. Unfortunately her glow illuminated through the cloth slightly, but she tried to ignore it. She made haste through the halls, down several columns of stairs before finally making it to the grand entrance room. The candles dimly lit certain areas of the room, she could see the guard standing by the door alone looking rather tired. He was very new, hardly been working a week which was why he was given the least important hours to watch for danger.
Carefully, she hid her sack behind her back and folded her arms behind her as if practicing the proper 'princess' walk. Approaching the tired guard, he snapped up and gave her a stern and somewhat confused look. "Princess, state your business!" He blurted out, but quickly lost his confidence at her disapproving look. "Uh, I mean... Maya, why are you out so late? Shouldn't you be in bed or preparing for your wedding in spring? Can't waste any time now... It quickly approaches."
Sneering, Maya flexed her claws and tried not to look too ugly with her frown. "Watch your tongue! I will marry that pathetic oaf whether I'm ready or not, you know that well!" Snorting, she closes her eyes and jerks her head to the side; away from the guard. "I hear there are special flowers that only bloom at night, I have arrangements to see them tonight in case they will flatter me at that sickening wedding." She lies, quickly and easily on the spot. It was never hard to lie.
He fidgets with his spear, looking rather sick and unsure now. "Should I escort you? I'm not supposed to let royals out alone..." But he was silenced by a tan paw lifting to his face. Her other paw holding the sack slide from her side.
"I've packed several loafs of bread, I'll drop crumbs as I travel. If I'm not back in the hour, you can come find me. This florist is very shy however, I may scare them away with company. Aside now, the bride wants the perfect flowers to draw her attention off the not so perfect event." With that, she was free. The guard nervously stepped aside and she made her way out the doors. Once outside the castle walls, she broke into a run. The train would be leaving at dawn and she had no time to waste! The circus... She was going to be part of the circus...

Day 6
Tell about a time your kalon had to lie.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Artemis

It was a very boring day for Artemis, as both she and her sister followed their mother to the castle for yet another calling from the Prince. It seemed recently he just kept getting sick and seeing as their mother was pretty darn good at what she did, these visits seemed to increase in frequency. Now at the beginning Artemis was excited for these visits. Who wouldn't be? But now, they bored her as they weren't actually allowed to wander the castle at all. They were stuck usually in one room for the entire duration of them being there.

"Why do I have to go??!" She whined as they were walking through the castle grounds. "I don't even like this...herb stuff.."

Rika, her mother, just smiled and responded to her, "Well maybe when you are older you'll be able to stay home alone."

Artemis scoffed a bit and turned her head away. That was the answer she always gave. /When you're older!/ She mimicked the voice in her head mockingly. Thankfully her thoughts were all her own and no one would be able to hear them. As they passed through the court yard a group of young Kalons caught her eye. She stopped and watched them practicing for a moment, her eyes widening and a smile finding it's way onto her face. Now this, this is what she wanted to do!

"Artemis dear, this way." The sound of her mothers voice broke her free from the trance. She took one last longing look at the training exercises and slowly made her way over to her family.

x~~x

The room they happen to be in this time had large windows that happened to oversee the courtyard. And they at this moment contained Artemis' face smushed up against it as she stared down into the courtyard. She had already asked to go down there to just watch and was given a stern no. How could her mother be so mean to her? Couldn't she see that this was her calling? Artemis sighed and turned away from the window and slumped onto the ground. What was the point in watching if she couldn't join them?

That's when it hit her. Her eyes wandered over to her mother and her sister who were currently preoccupied with other tasks. She then looked over at the door across the room. It was wide open and no one was around. A smug little smile formed on her face as she slowly crept towards the open door, keeping an eye on her family while doing so. Slowly...slowly she made her way to the entrance and with one quick look behind her she bolted down hallway they came from and made her way outside.

Well she was too deep into this scheme to turn back now. Trying to look her best she strode up to the group, confidence seeping through every joint in her body. She wasn't sure if it was going to work but it was worth a shot. "Uh, hello. I'm the new recruit?" She said to one of the grownups, her confidence beginning to slip through her paws.

The older Kalon looked over, an eyebrow raised slightly. "You are Ryder? Well mister Ryder, you are late. And that is unacceptable. Because this is your first day you will get off with a warning. But next time we won't be as lenient."

Artemis swallowed and nodding, "Y-Yes sir..."

"Good. Now go join the rest of your group. They will show you what you need to do." The Kalon flicked their tail in the direction of a group of boys and then walked away.

x~~x

It seemed like the rest of the plan had gone off without a hitch. Artemis was proud of herself. She had managed to get away from her 'overprotective' mother and she managed to convince the teacher that she was someone else. And out of all that, today she deemed was one of the best days of her life. But she knew she couldn't slip up...or this lie she had managed to make up would fall apart. And if they found out that she was a girl, well Artemis didn't want to think of the consequences that could follow her for lying to the royal guard.

Artemis walked back home with her family, convincing them to take a different route, in hopes that she wouldn't meet up with any of her new 'teachers' or 'classmates'.

Dᴀʏ 06: TΚœα΄‡ Sɴᴀᴋᴇ

Postby Ethulai » Thu Feb 22, 2018 9:03 am

Dᴀʏ 06: TΚœα΄‡ Sɴᴀᴋᴇ
"[ clever, knowledgeable, loner ] "

Tell about a time your kalon had to lie.

That day there was a deluge, the wind howling fiercely and lightning strikes illuminating the thundercloud-filled sky. No kalon wanted to wander out of the safety and comfort of the inn.

Dhakiya, as usual, was holding court on the top floor her position perfect for both defense and being able to observe everything happening in the atrium below over the balustrade in front of her. Bahlam, a somewhat friendly rival as he had no desire to be 'owned' by anyone or be a part of what he considered a rag-tag crew of ruffians, was seated at the table with her determined to think up some mischief. As Aztekia placed two fresh tankards of ale in front of the kalons, Dhakiya reached out and tumbled Teki into her lap. She gave her a quick nuzzle before Aztekia, blushing and scolding, went back to her work.

Bahlam and Dhakiya both watched Teki walk briskly back into the kitchen and then were distracted by Dynia presenting a table of four with a huge meat platter, of his own making. They both groaned in appreciation.
"I tell you, that boy could turn me straight," Dhakiya murmured appreciatively, eyeing the meat platter hungrily.
"Hmmm," Bahlam responded, eyeing Dynia hungrily.
Dhakiya looked at Bahlam with a twinkle in her eye, gleeful in her knowledge that there seemed to be a growing attraction brewing between the two males, though Bahlam still maintained he was suspicious of the mysterious new kalon who had appeared in their village only a few short months ago.

"He's so close lipped about himself, isn't he?," Dhakiya asked Bahlam, trying to provoke the dark furred male with golden eyes.
"I bet I could make him talk," Bahlam responded oozing self assurance, confident in his mastery of deception.
"Really? I'd like to see that" Dhakiya scoffed.
"You question my abilities?" Bahlam said softly, curling up his lip.
"Well, go on then, see if you can get the boy to tell you even one true fact from his lying tongue," she challenged.
Bahlam hissed at her before rising gracefully and sauntering downstairs.

    ---

Dynia could feel eyes on him as he rushed around the atrium delivering food to hungry, bored Kalons. The hairs on his neck stood up. Was it him, again? What had initially been an interaction of glacial glares on the dark Kalon's part had recently shifted into a more smoldering, lingering ...almost question. After a few lifetimes of apathy, Dynia found the intensity of his reaction to the handsome dark male both confusing and chilling in equal measures. He had set himself up in his current 'life' and he was safe and almost happy. He didn't want to be exposed, didn't want to flee, didn't want to start over again as he had done countless times now.

A whisper of sound as the kitchen door opened and closed behind him. Please, don't let it be him, Dynia thought and steeled his face into the dreamy, empty smile he had perfected over time to avoid too many questions and suspicion. His smile almost faltered as he turned and saw Bahlam leaning against the wall, his pose relaxed, his eyes too all-seeing.
"What can I do for you, sir?" Dynia asked breezily, easing into his persona of a young, dumb male.
"Oh, so many things my darling but that's not what I'm here for today," Bahlam responded, deliberately provocative.
Dynia blinked and changed his smile into a look of confusion; "Are you hungry, sir?" he asked politely.
Bahlam chuckled and flashed a grin, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Don't you think we're past that stage of politeness Dynia?" he asked, letting a little hurt enter his tone.

Dynia felt his heart race as he recognised he was in the midst of a dangerous situation. Bahlam had always pushed before, but this time it felt different. What was he after? he thought, panicked.
"Well, I don't know sir, we aren't exactly friends are we?" he responded.
"No, not really, which is such a shame. I'd like to change that. It appears you are in for the long haul and Teki, bless her charitable soul, has taken a shining to you. You know I'm her favourite customer, right?" he smirked.
How Dynia wanted to smack that smug look of his face, he thought, and then wondered at the strength and intensity of his reaction. Though he wanted to rant and rage, the passions of his inner self still echoing the boy he used to be, he tried to stifle his emotion.
"Well, I don't know sir, I didn't think Aztekia had favourites. She seems to treat everyone, no matter their supposed status, equally," he snapped, unable to completely leash his frustration.

Though he expected Bahlam to leave in a huff, his heart fluttered wildly as he watched a lazy smile of satisfaction settle on the other Kalon's face.
"I knew there was more to you than that fake persona you seem to love so much," Bahlam said. "Are you ready to finally be a man and have a real conversation?"
Dynia felt a rumble of a growl move up his throat, truly angry as he realised not only had he slipped but that Bahlam would now pursue him with his incessant questions until he got what he wanted. Stubborn, beautiful male. How he wanted to bear his soul to someone, after all this time, to be himself, to ask for help. He remembered the years when he had broken under his burden and had numbly and without direction traveled the world - absolutely out of control, having no regard for himself or anyone else. The chaos he had caused. The countless lives he had ruined when he started believing his own situation, his curse, was not his fault. How he wanted to belong, to just be. This golden eyed male was threatening it all.

"There's no time for conversation, sir, I need to get back to work. Perhaps another time, though I'm sure nothing I say could be of interest to you," Dynia said, the young, dumb male persona perfectly back in place.
"Very well," Bahlam responded. "Just tell me though, for my own curiosity, how old are you?"
"24, sir," Dynia responded, the old lie easy on his tongue, the first lie he had perfected. The true figure was closer to 630, though he hadn't aged a day.
Bahlam huffed, "you're lying," he said. "Though why you feel the need to tell falsehoods about something that shouldn't really matter is beyond me." He gave Dynia a cold glare before exiting the way he had came. Dynia thought he might of imagined it, but had he seen hurt in those golden eyes? He felt his eyes well up as he went back to prepping his next order.

"Maybe one day", he whispered to himself, "I'll have the courage to share my story and find a real friend."
