Prompt piece:

"A chipmunk on the border is claiming to be Frith's emissary, Valere-rah." Felix spoke in a hushed whisper the second he arrived at Valere-rah's feet. His eyes constantly darted towards the entrance of the warren. "A chipmunk? You must be joking, Felix." She chuckled, taking in the rabbit's nervous posture. Seeing that Felix wasn't just poking with her, she shook her head. "Kill it." She said flatly, changing the mood of the conversation rather swiftly. Felix was taken aback by the statement, his ears pressed against his skull. "No- I mean we can't! You should at least come up and meet him." He suggested, "He's rather interesting." Valere-Rah seemed to straighten up and immediately took an aggressive stance. She thumped her foot roughly against the solid earth, staring down the rabbit. "Idiot! Did you bring the chipmunk here? We went over this before, Felix!" With a disappointed huff, she hopped past the rabbit.

Valere-rah hopped past him, emerging from the warren at once. "Frith's Emissary, show yourself!" She hissed, pawing through the tall grasses until a small voice spoke up. As expected, a chipmunk appeared at Valere-rah's feet, its cheeks stuffed with flayrah. "You claim to be Frith's Emissary?" She spoke in a rather amused tone, looking back at Felix who emerged from the warren. The chipmunk nodded and spoke up, a grin plastered across its face. For such a small animal, the emissary rambled for ages, speaking over Valere-rah several times. He didn't seem to notice the small crowd forming and Valere-rah who looked as if she would kick out the chipmunk any second.

As if an eternity had passed, the chipmunk had finally shut up, leaving Valere-rah ultimately unconvinced and displeased. However, Felix and Nettle seemed to be on the fence. "That would be enough chattering from you for a day, trespasser." Before the chipmunk could continue, however, Valere-rah spoke up once more. "Felix, Nettle, come with me. Trespasser, stay here." She turned and leaped down into the warren, Felix and Nettle following not far behind Valere.

"As you two are aware, a chipmunk has arrived claiming to be Frith's Emissary. I'm not convinced Frith would have chosen such a...dumb creature as an emissary." She uttered out, thumping her hind foot. Nettle was first to speak up after a short and rather awkward silence. "I believe the chipmunk.." Valere tilted her head, expecting an explanation. "A chipmunk so confident and unafraid wouldn't appear on our territory for now reason." She continued slowly. Felix nodded a bit eagerly, agreeing with the fellow rabbit. "You have a point, but who am I to trust a mere animal who dares trespass with no idea of who he's speaking to? I expect Frith's Emissary to have some common sense which is lacking greatly."

After speaking between each other, the trio returned to the surface with the Emissary glaring expectantly. "It's been settled, trespasser, if you can convince us you are truly Frith's Emissary, I will do you no harm." She paused, "Although-- If you fail to, you will be banished from my territory." She said finally, leaving the chipmunk with a satisfied expression.

The chipmunk scuttled off, supposedly off to complete some important Emissary business, or rather attempt to convince the warren. Whatever he was doing, it best be enough to swing Valere's opinion on the suspicious chipmunk.

Act 2
Frith's Emissary is adoring all the attention it is getting from your Warren! The special meals and comfortable nest you have built for it has made the Chipmunk incredibly easy to please, and so has endowed your clan with certain… “wonders.” One day you wake up and see dozens of baby chickens pecking around your warren! Another day it is a sudden outcropping of silflay with questionable quality.

You understand that Frith's Emissary is only trying to help, and it says as much! However, you can't shake the feeling of annoyance when you wake up to find a light dusting of acorns scattered about, attracting other rodents to your territorial hunting grounds.

“I thought you guys might like some silflay you don’t have to go around hunting for!” the chipmunk chattered excitedly!

[ 609 / 500 words]
The days came and went since the arrival of the emissary, and the rabbits of Deerbarrow Warren eventually became used to his presence in the warren. Not long afterward, there seemed to be certain strange gifts that appeared overnight outside their burrow. There was the arrival of the baby chickens one day, waking the sleeping rabbits with their noisy clucks and one even managed to sneak into the burrow and pecked the ears of the local rabbits. Then came the sudden surplus of silflay, although none of the rabbits really complained about that, especially with the need to store as much food as possible. The final straw for most of the warren, excluding childlike Myrtia that is, was the sudden littering of acorns all over the ground which didn't help the rabbits at all. It just attracted squirrels and chipmunks to their territory and the abandoned shells of the acorns got stuck in between their toes, injuring the rabbits. What was more, the sudden influx of rodents to their burrow would more than likely get the unwanted attention of the twolegs, who also needed to store food as much as possible and would love nothing more than to come and hunt the area where the squirrels and small game were now abundant.

After the emissary had left the burrow, most likely to grab more unwanted gifts for his rabbit hosts, Igetis-rah called for an emergency meeting. Careful to avoid the shells littered on the floor of their burrow, the seven rabbits gathered in their usual meeting place and awaited the words of their stressed leader.

"The onset of the Frith's emissary has been both a blessing and a pain as of late, as I'm sure you are all aware," the black bicolored buck stated, wanting to pace but not wanting to risk another injury to his feet. He took a breath inward as he gathered his thoughts, observing the reactions of his warren members as he chose his words carefully. "The gifts that our guest has brought us have been helpful, but the latest one of the acorns has drawn more squirrels and chipmunks to the area, greatly increasing the likelihood of their presence being discovered by the twolegs. We need to do something about this soon, otherwise we run the risk of bringing the twoleg elil into our home turf."

Bittersweet and Siopi exchanged worried looks with each other at the thought of bringing the twolegs so close to home. Of course, they as well as the rest of the warren had thought the same thing but hearing it from their rah made it that much more real and scary. Mamaro, having already been looking more stressed lately, inched closer to the comfort of their sister Dynami, who consoled her younger sibling while Lupin's turquoise eyes inspected the reactions of all the rabbits in turn, as if dissecting each emotion and movement separately. Meanwhile, Myrtia, the ghostly grey rabbit who was seated near Bittersweet and Igetis-rah looked upset at the thought of possibly harming their friend. She was genuinely the only one concerned for the wellbeing of the emissary at that point.

After a long meeting, it was decided by the warren that nothing would be done about the hunters, but they did talk to the frith's emissary about the shells and the influx of the squirrels. They agreed upon a temporary solution for the shells at the very least- a hole would be dug near the spot where most of the acorns were strewn about to serve as a shell pit. At least this way, the rabbits wouldn't have to worry about stray shells in their toes.

[ 615 / 500 words]
One day, the frith's emissary appeared out of his sleeping chamber, paws full of acorn shells he was moving to the newly dug shell pit. Igetis-rah, having been awake already, greeted their guest and asked if he needed any help. The answer from the small chipmunk was unexpected and took the bicolored buck by surprise. The guest had asked Igetis-rah to have his rabbits help him build a traditional grass hutch to aid in the festivities.

"What does a traditional grass hutch look like?" The rah asked the emissary, his emerald eyes full of confusion and a hint of wonder. "I don't mean to be rude, I've never heard of one."

"Ah, don't you fret!" The small chipmunk squeaked, a smile on his face. "It doesn't have to be anything in particular, just whatever it means to you! But there can't be a proper festival without one, so hop to it!" The emissary, laughing at his own joke, exited the burrow and left Igetis-rah to his thoughts.

A traditional grass hutch, the black and white buck repeated in his head as he imagined what that could possibly look like. It took a few hours of silent brainstorming, but once the majority of the warren was awake the male had an idea of what they were going to do.

"Listen up, everyone!" Igetis-rah called, his voice booming in excitement. "Today we have a big task ahead of us. We are going to build a traditional grass hutch for the festival!"

Ignoring the grumbles from the warren members, the rah went on to assign each of them duties for their current objective which would need to be done after breakfast that day. Igetis-rah kept the task of constructing the stick layout for himself while he divided the remaining six members into two groups of three to gather materials. Myrtia, Bittersweet and Dynami would make up one group while the other would be Siopi, Mamaro and Lupin. The two groups would split up and spend the morning collecting grasses and plants from different parts of their territory.

The first group headed off to the east toward the lake where long grass grew in great abundance- perfect for making up the first layer of grass to cover the sticks. The second group, on the other hand, opted to head north toward the pine forest where shorter, sweeter grass grew- this would be added on top of the longer grass with some herbs and flowers for some extra color.

Igetis-rah wasted no time in gathering sticks from nearby in the hillside before starting up the construction process. Soon he had gathered a hefty pile of sticks, all of different sizes as well as a few flexible roots that could be used to tie the sticks together if need be. He carefully laid the longer sticks out and tied the first few together so the structure would be able to hold it's basic shape before he picked up the frame and set it up. At this point it looked more like a triangular tentlike structure but in time it would be covered in grass and take its proper shape.

By the time the two groups had returned from their gathering of grasses, Igetis-rah already had the structure's skeleton made and was working on planning where the different types of grass would go. He directed the rabbits where to place the blades of grass, showing them how to weave them properly so that the blades wouldn't blow away in the wind. Soon they had a beautiful triangular, tentlike hutch made of sticks and grass and covered with colorful flowers and a few berries. A very festive addition to the warren indeed.

Prompt piece: Khyran-rah seems traumatized after his last ordeal with the marmot. Mink isn't very comfortable. The rest of the warren seems fine, though! ^^" I think they'll just wait it out.
