Aiko once again wasn't very cautious on where her paws landed. She's gotten a reputation of that, but she never gotten scared of what would happen next. This one was different. She was frightened. Aiko hung upside down from the kalon grabbing her by one of her back legs. This Kalon was big, tall, and scary. Their eyes were narrowed. What do you do?

Don't let ya stupid friend die out here." he dropped her and Aiko took heavy breaths, coughing a little too. "you've could of made a better scenario y'know. Like that time when you were trying to bite me. That was amusing. But you decide to go with a lame answer to my question." he sighed "Well, bye bye traveller" the Kalon went out of aiko's sight as she can barley see his figure "What a weird person.." You told yourself.

Althea, Peregrine, and James all were wearing a look mixed of confusion, and somewhat of fear. Thorns from the vines latched on to the group, which heightened the fear in the two of them. Now, they were even nervous to move. Althea, however, had jerked to try to get free, and ended up leaving a cut in her arm from where a thorn had dug in. She winced, and now wanted nothing more than to leave. But when the strange Kalon came out of the shadows, Althea managed to have keep her composure steady. There must have been some reason that they had trapped all three of them. Something they wanted. But, what exactly was it?

"Tell me, stranger, why should I let you go?" the one in the dark had asked. Getting a clearer look at him, she scoffed. It wasn't worth the trouble of replying. She looked at her own wounds and applied her healing power. Althea had gotten more scrapes from the thorns, but if she didn't pay any attention to the stranger, he would eventually ask other questions. The two others from her party had seemingly caught on to what tactic she was trying to use; or they were too shocked, for they had kept quiet. They only watched, waiting from a reaction from either Althea or the stranger.

Althea had been correct. After seeing the glow of the healing, and how it seemed there had been no wound there to begin with, he had been amazed. Often, this is the reaction. While many mages had the power of a device or magic from another source, Althea had been born with this magic to begin with. This striked others with curiosity, as it didn't seem to come up often. The Kalon that trapped the three of them was no different from the others.

"Wait, how ... how did you, you know, do that?" he asked, clearly curious. He tried to appear threatening, but after that, it didn't seem to work. It seemed that she had figured out what the stranger wanted. He had wanted to be entertained, is all. She could use that to her advantage.

"If you let us go, I will tell you the tale," Althea told him in a low tone, finally giving him a glance. In the dark, illuminated by the light of the moon, Althea could see that he wanted an explanation, a story to be told. The dark eyes that looked at her and the rest of the group were glistening with wonder. But also, with questions. She could see the stranger contemplating whether it was worth letting them go; or if it was more worth it to steal things from them.

But, the curiosity had conquered the mind of their captor.

He had decided to let them free.

Heavy breaths drowned under the crashing underbrush, Kibasha's frantic feet sent her lithe body racing between tree trunks, careening around grasping limbs and wildly dodging the fleeing creatures stirred up by their flight. The distant singing may have stopped, but the bolt of magic that had followed proved only one thing: they were still in serious danger.

"Where's Rita?" Yushin shouted, and Kibasha flung her hand out to quiet him.

"She's fine," she insisted between frantic strides. "We need to g--aaaah!"

Both kalons cried out as they abruptly swept upward in a painful jolt, innumerable briars tearing at their armor and flesh. The duo had been instantly, unbreakably grappled, the thick net of thorns and vines pressing tightly against their limbs, magically tightening to prevent the slightest movement. Kibasha gasped as a thin trickle of black blood dropped down above her eye, a few blinks diverting its path from her pupils and off across her sweat-drenched cheek.

"Yushin," she called shakily. "I--"

"Shh." A dark glare from glowing eyes reveled immediately why. A figure approached, not from the way they'd been chased, but from the grove ahead.

"Tell me, stranger, why should I let you go?"

The voice, a sickly smooth velvet crept up to their ears, golden eyes staring harshly into the depths of their own.

"Let us go," Yushin demanded with a snarl, lips curling back as he frivolously struggled against the bramble entanglement.

"Why should I?"

"You don't understand," Kibasha interjected, glancing with quick nerves at Yushin in a plea to stop the far from charismatic kalon from ruining their chances of escape. "Please, we're being chased. My sister is alone out there, and there's someone after us, please," she begged.

The figure stood unmoving, eyes burning heartlessly into Kibasha's eyes, silent. The sound of her own breath echoed against her eardrums, pounding blood enveloping her senses.

"I have no reason to trust you," the figure continued, finally taking one step, then another, in a slow circle around his prey.

"No, no... you don't, and we can't trust you either, but please, please... Just let us go. We need to go, before the... Before whoever is chasing us catches up to all of us. Please."

Her voice hung over the forest; the kalon's patrol slowed to a halt.

"And they're dangerous. But so are you," the figure coaxed.

"But we'll be dead if you leave us here," Yushin snapped.

The figure considered a moment before a smooth, unsettling chuckle rose up between the glint of teeth.

"That may just work in my favor," he grinned, raising a shadowed hand as Kibasha's eyes went wide.

"NO!" she screamed, just as a thunderous crack sent birds, wildlife, the trees themselves scattering.

Rita's club hovered shakily over the gasping form at her feet. Immediately, the brambles dissipated, freeing both of her companions.

"Let's go, now!" Kibasha cried, Yushin grabbing their shell-shocked savior and lifting her off into the trees, the gasping stranger left staggering to his feet in their wake.

"We're trying to save all of kalon kind, you dingus!" Abacus cried out only for Belial to slip a paw over his mouth. They exchanged a silent glance and Bel gave a small smile and Abacus returned with a resigned sigh.

"We truly are on a quest to save the kalons," Belial spoke with a voice of equal composure to the stranger, "We are looking for the four crystals of Kalokairi to banish the darkness that has plagued this land. Perhaps in the forest it is not as apparent, as we have not encountered many monstrous shadows this way-- but in the village the corruption is very apparent and it is taking a toll on all who are trapped within it."

"Really?" Abacus blurted, to which Belial covered his mouth again to hush him.

"Well... yes. This is my home, and if anyone has reason to defend it-- wouldn't' the most obvious answer be myself? I care greatly for this world, thus why I was offended at your brash trespassing. I have been tailing you since you arrived, and... I suppose you do seem harmless-- letting pesky wildlife be instead of harming them and merely observing without bothering the magical kalons who dwell here-- and so, I suppose I will help you, as you seem like a heroic lot."

"Does that imply you'd like to be a hero as well?" Elizabeth asked, finally piping up into the conversation.

"Perhaps," The stranger chuckled, going over to slice the rope on the net which kept it suspended. "Doesn't everyone? The only reason I'd help you is for that greater cause-- the only reason I'd leave my home is so I can return to it when it is safer and free of this plague of darkness... realize you are receiving a lot of kindness from me, though it may not seem so. I expect you to one day return it."

The earthy Kalon stared out from the bushes and slowly stepped out, awaiting an answer from the three Kalons trapped in the thorns.
Nadya stared back into his deadly eyes and shouted back,"If thou wishes to not be flayed alive then I would set us free!!"
"Ah, but if release thee then thou could just turn thine sword upon me just as easily. Your reason is thus declined."
As the words echoed from his mouth the thorns tightened around the heroes.
"Nadya, I think you should just stay out of this, your temper isn't helping," Tamaya gentlely told the gruffing knight. Nadya grumbled to herself but then let the subject drop.
"What is you gave us a riddle or something to prove our worth and intelligence and then set us free if we answer correctly?" Tamaya persuaded to their yellow eyed captor.
"Well that's very interesting, but too stereotypical. I mean what is the point of giving you a chance to escape when my entire purpose is to keep you trapped? I'm sorry but I'm not easily deceived and will not being handing your chance at freedom to you. As this moment continues I tire of this conversation so I believe I'll be on my way while the vines take their course. Fare thee well...or perhaps not."
"WAIT!" Pomba exlaimed, "Let me first entertain thee with a song! I wrote it myself and you might find it quite fun!"Pomba attempted to correctly hold his lute and after a few minutes of awkward silence he was able to play.
Tamaya whispered,"What do you think you're doing? How is this supposed to help??"
Pomba just replied with a sly wink and begin to serenade their captor.

"But....but how did you escape?" he stammered out.
"You see, as I distracted you with song, Nadya was able to slip out of her armor and climb up into the tree above us, and then she climbed across and jumped behind you. Thus allowing for us to thwart you and now force you to set us free. Now if you please I'd like to be freed next because these thorns are digging into my lute playing hands and those are quite important to me."

How did you escape?: ambrose had never hoped for the light of day more as he felt sharp thorns pressing into him from all sides. he felt lightheaded as he looked down at the kalon below him, whose gaze was unfriendly. "i don't take kindly to strangers on my homeland," the kalon growled, digging their paws into the dark dirt. as their paws lifted, ambrose spotted a bright flash of color, and he realized that the other kalon was trying to hide their paws. hoping that might help him reason his way out of here, he tilted his head slightly towards the pawpads, wincing as a thistle pressed into his back leg. "why are you trying to hide your paws?" he asked. it was clear the question bothered the other kalon, who bared his muzzle in a snarl. "i'll leave you here for the wolves if you don't watch it. my paws are perfectly fine, and so is my shine." it was then that ambrose noticed the burlap sack covering the kalon's short tail. despite his fear, ambrose felt a tinge of sympathy for the other kalon. a kalon's shine was supposed to be the thing they were most proud of, not something they wanted to hide! "can i see it?" ambrose ventured. the other kalon's gaze grew dark, but they pushed the bag off anyways, showing off their bright shine. "it's a weakness here. only the dark survives," they muttered. "what are you talking about? if i saw a glint of that out of the corner of my eye, i'd go running! i'd be scared of the creature that sports something like that in such a dark place." the other kalon rolled their eyes, but it was clear they were listening intently. "but if i saw you trying to hide it, i'd think you were weak." the kalon's ears pricked up, another snarl forming at their lips. ambrose's eyes grew wide as he quickly added, "so you should show that you're proud of your bright colors! i can help you!" the other kalon paused. "if i release you and you run, you will meet a dark end," the kalon warned as they pushed aside brambles, releasing ambrose from the trap. ambrose walked slowly, allowing the kalon to follow them, until he found a patch of plants that were so bright they almost appeared to be glowing. ambrose had never seen them before, so he just hoped they weren't dangerous as he picked the leaves from them and wove them into a small crown, planting it on the other kalon's head. "now others will see that you are proud. they'll see your crown from a mile and know that you're the king of this area." the kalon looked into a puddle and through the dim moonlight, admired their new crown. "get out of here before i change my mind," they murmured as they picked it up and reset it on their head, the ghost of a smile appearing on their previously unforgiving face. [ 499 // 500 ]

She escaped when the Kalon was giving a monologue about how nobody cared for the forest anymore. She used a small handheld lighter she held in her pocket. She burned her way through the vines carefully while he was talking, not without a few scratches though, and dropped to the ground. Of course this sent the Kalon into a rage trying to get her back. But luck was on Isis's side ad she dodged the vines and thistles and ran like hounds were after her.

molly screamed as her paws were suddenly lifted from the ground, fear and confusion of what was happening. she was dizzy, but finally realized she was in a trap. she wanted to yell for help, but she knew nobody was nearby, and she didn't want to alert any possible predators.

suddenly, a darkly colored kalon jumps from the bushes, and she looks at him with desperate eyes.

"oh, thank heaven, somebody!" she sighed in relief, getting her paws in a twist. "do you mind freeing me?" she begged, looking at them with big eyes.

"why? you're the one who mindlessly walked into my trap." he said, amusement in his tone.

"wait, you set this trap up? but why?" she asked, disgusted.

"well, originally for prey, but im sure i can get something out of you as well, so don't fret." he said, a smug grin on his face. he was obviously enjoying it.

molly was ready to cry and throw a temper tantrum, but she needed to stay calm. "okay, what do i need to do to get down?" she asked, trying to sit relatively comfortably.

"what'd you got?" he asked, looking up at her with interest.

"uh, ive got some gems, some money-" she was about to say the crystal, but that was something she didn't want to give up. "some canned foods, and some cute little collectibles ive found." she offered.

he didn't look very persuaded with her offer. "how about we make a deal? ill let you off the hook if you find everything on this list." he offered, holding up a piece of paper.

"deal, just let me down!"
